Pirates of the Caribbean Auctioneer/Redhead Changes NO POLITICS or SOCIAL ISSUES, PLEASE!

I completely agree that a total changeover of the scene would be the way to go to truly freshen up the ride (and if it were to align with what so many people feel is the reasoning behind the change). I'm thinking the major factor here is merchandise for little girls who want to be the redheaded pirate, though - hence keeping her in instead.

Of course, I'm the weird chick who, when we took my 9-year old (at the time) stepson to the Pirates League during his first trip to WDW, got the full mustache and dude pirate makeover. The girl ones were all lame to me (I would have done the same when I was a kid, lol!).

She needs to be a pirate for girls to want to buy her merchandise? I'm a woman, and I think she's fantastic the way she is. She's clearly in on the joke, that's what makes it so cheeky. She's using her sexuality to her benefit. I view her as an empowered female, wench and all. Why does she now have to take up a dominant role in order for her to be marketable? She's a wench, it's a joke, and she clearly still holds the power (without having to hold a gun, and run the auction herself).

What if I want to dress up as the wench? What if I want to dress up as Jack Sparrow? Why do we now need a woman "pirate", running the auction, so that girls feel that it's ok to dress up as her.

Angelica is a woman pirate, and I think her character design was boring. There are many famous female pirates in history that they could have drawn reference from to make her more bad-.
Elizabeth Swann becomes a pirate, and I always thought it was not believable. What if some girls want to be the "gold gown" version of Elizabeth Swann? She is still powerful in her own right, being an aristocratic woman. Why does everything need to be a female hero for girls to relate, or respect women now?

I didn't see little girls running to the stores to buy "Angelica" merchandise, so I doubt this is the reason for the change. IMO.
I see your point, and I can see that execs would be thinking that as well, but I hope that isn't the reason for this stupid change.

In all honesty (and as much as I hate they are doing this), if Disney is changing this scene only, then they need to redo the whole ride.Otherwise this scene is just not going to make sense by itself. The new ride should be called Pirate of the Caribbean: Captain Jack Sparrow's Adventures.

On the latest Unofficial Guide's Disney Dish w/Jim Hill and @lentesta, Jim indicated that the Redhead animatronic will receive a full update and the current figure is just the top half.

The bottom half of the figure will receive the iconic "Captain Morgan" stance so that we as riders can more readily recognize she's a pirate.

The Redhead will then go by her new name, Mary. Children everywhere will subliminally acquire a wanting need to drink rum thanks to the ride's new sponsor, role model and idol; the fiery red-headed wife of Captain Morgan. Mary will empower girls everywhere with her new spoken dialogue: "Anything you can drink, I can drunk better!"

There will only be one word spoken throughout the entire attraction. . .

I agree with those that want an entirely new scene. The concept art and the description sound like a really fast, cheap, and lazy re-tread. This dialogue in this scene was absolutely hilarious, but it cannot remain the same, as the joke's no longer there. If this was an entirely new scene, especially if it were something with a great new WOW factor, I would be more accepting of dumping the existing scene.

"Strike yer colors ye brazen wench, no need to expose yer superstructure."

The joke is fine. Still funny after 50 years.

I'd like to propose a forum game. Guess the new dialogue! PotC Edition. With the re-imagined scene apparently happening for better or worse and now set to a concept of "Auctioning off yer loot" Let us think of how the AAs will be reworked and what possible dialogue will be created. Closest to the actual dialogue wins ultimate braggn' rights!

I would be Ok with that but only in the Florida version. In california just put his voice on the upramp with DJ and Blackbeard.

Point well taken, and agreed with, admittedly, I was thinking of only WDW in my statement

Totally agree, the scene as is, is still hilarious! I simply meant that if they change it as shown in the concept art, the dialogue will necessarily also have to change, as "superstructure" and "lardboard side" and "sellin' her by the pound" would no longer make any sense.
