PHOTOS - Mission SPACE exterior goes under wraps for refurbishment

Well uh.. just make each cabin on a centrifuge run the same program. Then change the program each cycle. No need for every cabin to be different during a cycle.. because you only ride in one cabin at a time :)

The movement of the cabins and speed can be reprogrammed - its just likely expensive and complex to do so.
Sold. That should be simple enough. How long does it take to transition between Orange and Green?

I strongly feel that if it had not replaced Horizons, there would not be much hostility toward Mission Space.

If Mission:SPACE had replaced The Living Seas, with The Living Seas moving to Animal Kingdom in 1998, and Horizons still existed - 99.99% of people would have been happy... (and nobody would have any reason to complain)

Instead, we lost a fan favourite, some people did not like the newer ride (for whatever reason), and Animal Kingdom lost out on an attraction that would fit the park perfectly, and would have helped keep it open later...

Sad that I never got to experience Horizons (or World of Motion, or Journey Into Imagination)...

That would have been a perfect scenario in retrospect.

You start to see images of Horizons scenes -they don't want you to see what was and what should always have been...:D

I think you're right to a point, but even though I love Horizons, as you can tell... I had really big hopes for M:S and I was really excited for it. It was just a huge letdown for me. And I hope the thing gets completely replaced, but that has more to do with frustration with how cool the entire pavilion could have been.

On the flip side, I think M:S the ride itself has led people to miss Horizons even more than they would have had it been replaced by a spectacular attraction, not one so polarizing.

I don't dislike Mission Space but it's kind of a let down compared to Horizons, replacing the largest Dark ride ever built with a Gravatron and a flat screen? not quite equal in my book

Yes. It has happened once to me (I wasnt the individual with air sickness, unfortunately the kid next to me was, and thank god for G-Forces ... it pretty much stayed confined to his 'compartment').

I am sure if any of the CM's on these boards work Mission Space, they have some 'interresting' stories along those lines as well.

GAG. Now I can officially say I will not ride Orange again. I just thought the bags were... precaution. At least that's how I get myself on the ride. "No one actually gets sick. It's just a precaution. You will be fine. You won't be trapped in a box with vomit."

Horizons was not closed for M:S. Space just happens to be the ride they later build in its spot. I've decided to hate the people responsible for closing Horizons, instead of hating M:S. Hey, what else can you do? I go to EPCOT, I shake my fist at the heavens in angry despair, and then I must try to enjoy it a bit. I don't think I've ever walked into M:S without bitter tears in my eyes, but it is not the fault of M:S (or of dear mr. Sotto).

M:S would've been awesome if it had replaced Mission to Mars. The ride belongs in TL in the MK, not in EPCOT. Still, I think it is a good ride. It gives a unique sensation. In Orlando's crowded thrill ride roster, it manages to stand out and provide something original.

I've seen a few people sick on the rides. There's a reason for the barf bags on the ride and for the huge trashcans outside of the ride.

They tell you not to look sideways during spinning, and the curious half of me wants to try it to see what happens. But I haven't got the guts to do that!

What does happen exactly? Do you just get sicker or what?
you get real dizzy real quick, lol. it affects the fluid in your ear that is responsible for balance and spacial orientation. screws everything up and takes a while to reset if u turn your head sideways and hold it there long enough

Yeah I think it's pretty simple... This changes into three separate voyages:
Brave Centauri
Mesa Verde
Sea Castle

The simulator system should be able to handle all of that.

You can test the effect on the Teacups. I do it for fun. Spin the cup real fast, then move your head sideways to the opposite direction the cup is going in, making a ninety degree angle, or more. You can increase the effect by moving your eyes sideways too, almost looking over your shoulder behind you. You get quite dizzy real quick. Not for the faint of heart!

Thanks for that! Perhaps if I'm feeling brave/foolish, I'll try that next time!
