PHOTOS - Mission SPACE exterior goes under wraps for refurbishment

It definitely needed it, but while they're at it, I wish they would take this time to at least make the capsule audio and video sound and look correct. Every time I ride, now, Gary''s audio commands and their effects cut in and out, and the smaller screens on the control panel have looked awful. This is of course for Orange, I never bother with Green so I don't know how its doing.

If they could have different scenes (like Star Tours) where each adventure is different, would make the ride...re-rideable.

I would ride more than once a Epcot visit if I had the chance of taking part in a different story.

Also, update to HD video. It's 2013 for heaven's sake!

What's with that paranoia all the time? Rubbish. All sites everywhere link to other sites. It is the very nature of the internet. Napster fifteen years ago already showed the futility of trying to stem the tide of free flow of information.

Green was great in late January when i last rode....only issue was the control sticks in my capsule were not generating any friction during the rough landing on Mars.
Kind of missed that...made you realize how important the little things are in a ride like this.

Wish they'd refurb the inside to something new... :)

Everyone I know personally who's been on M:S did it once and never again because they all came off the ride completely nauseated.
Agreed. I like thrill rides and most of the stuff at WDW, but I can't stand Mission: Space. I'll go on green team if my brother insists. The last time I was on orange, my screen kept going off and by the end I really wanted to throw up.

Thank heavens. This exterior refurbishment is long overdue. Should have been done about 5 years ago, but better late than never.

While we are talking about M:S, any one know the status of HP's sponsorship and when its due for renewal? These things tend to be on 10 year time frames and we're at that later this year.
Oh gosh, it has been ten years hasn't it? Well, based on how old our capcom looks now on CSI: NY...

Who knows. I mean, on one hand, HP isn't doing as well as it should, but on the other hand, I wouldn't know of a company that would take it over. Personally, I like HP products. The laptop I'm using is an HP. The one before that is an HP. The desktop before that was an HP. The desktop downstairs is an HP. They make very good computers. Personally, I like them better than the one Dell we have. Perhaps they like the sponsorship and would stay. Or perhaps they would think, "Nah, this ride is terrible, why should we?" These sponsorship things just tend to be erratic IMO. I'd be on board if another company decided to take the ride over and redo it.

That is if they didn't make it another Test Track. But I really don't like Mission: Space, so I can't imagine it getting worse.

I'm usually in between green and orange. I ride orange if bribed. Green control sticks tend not to work. Orange do. No idea why.

I'm nauseated by the constant complaints about it. It's a fantastic unique attraction, sure as a pavillion it could use some more but the ride itself is a great thrill, just keep your head facing the screen in front of you as they instruct you to do and you'll be fine.

I have kinda a schizo relationship with this attraction.

I have always dreamed of going into space, so this is right up my alley. I think
that the theming and preshow really give you this sense that you're about to
do it!

So. I've done Orange probably six times. And I think it's amazing, and the closest
I'll ever feel to actually going into space. Remarkable.

However. I have paid the price by not feeling well afterwards, on every occasion.

So, from now on, it's Green for me, which I've done an additional 6 or 8 times.

In some sense, even given that, it's not something that I look forward to anymore.
So, I am glad they have it, been there, done that. But I am not excited to ride
it the way I am, say, TOT, or even Test Track.

So what do you say about a ride that succeeds, but makes me feel bad, which I'm
glad that I went on, but don't really care about much anymore?

Schizo.

It's probably me . . . . LOL.

My wife refuses to go on it anymore. I love it, however, I have had the unfortunate occasion of a person in our capsule vomiting during the ride ... at least it was near the end.

I consider myself a big chicken too when it comes to stuff like this, but trust me, the tamer Green Team experience is well worth doing. I ride every visit.

Nothing to be nervous about...it is actually very similar to a motion-simulator attraction. NO spinning sensations...no G-force sensations. Think Star Tours, but with some additonal fun interactive elements ( the blast off is fun !) Green Team is a great way to get yourself warmed up to Orange...when you are ready to move in that direction again.

Give it a try next time...i think you will come off feeling better about M:S....literally and figuratively !

:)

Ah... See I never knew the Green side didn't use the centrifuge at all. Just that it was "not as intense". I may give it a whirl then on the next trip if that's the case.

My boys and I love this attraction and we rode orange 5 times over the week of February 10th and even they mentioned, at ages 8 and 10, the many aspects that weren't working. All 5 times we had Gary's audio cutting in and out, the smaller video screens were sometimes in the fritz and not once did the controls have feedback. As cheesy as I think some of these things were before, knowing they did nothing, it's amazing to see just how big of a distraction they were when not working properly. Never rode green so I can't say how that side was but for what it's worth, I'm very happy the exterior is being refurbished! And hopefully with either a sponsorship renewal or change will bring some needed repairs to the actual ride :).

If the thing makes him nauseous there's no problem saying it. It makes a lot of people sick... As per your comment. :)

I had really high hopes for it, but its a mediocre, disappointing experience, imo. Just a more immersive version of Mission To Mars, but you're not not actually going to Mars in the story.

I never understod the appeal for the people who are fans of it, but it you appreciate it and love it I'm glad someone does ;)

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

Yes ! Definately try it !
That was the whole point of Disney creating a Green Team option, so more Guests could ride. Guests who are not keen on the whole extreme sensation, thrill aspects of the attraction were then able to ride and experience it without those aspects. It helped boost ridership. Orange is great, but for some people it is a little too much.

You will have the exact same experience you had previously on M:S, but on Green the centrifuge is turned off...so no weightless or spinning sensations.

Have a great flight...!

I can*t speak for other people, but i can tell you why i like this attraction.
I find it a exercise in using your imagination. It is fun to pretend you are really blasting off, and whipping around the Moon on your way to Mars. I find it amusing and a hoot. The fact you are often in a capsule with other Guests you don*t know often makes it even more amusing as you get to enjoy their often first experience of it all.

It is a little sad though...considering that the pavillion to have this fun, imaginative experience in is NOT the Imagination Pavillion.

Yes, sad indeed.

I think there is confusion here. Openededsky means 'hadn't been since 1999-2000...until I returned recently'.

If twelve years ago was the time of last visit, he wouldn't have seen M:S looking fine, he wouldn't have seen it altogether - the area then was still a sinkhole that had just gobbled up Horizons.

She, but yeah. I never really had a point of reference to begin with and it was a nutty day for me in general, but I'm glad it's getting refurb work since everybody else is pointing out how it is needed.
