Ah ... like the typical out of control threads here ... so many points, so many misconceptions, so much ... talk.
First, Fantasmic isn't being phased out. It's not going anywhere. It is very popular, which is why so many folks are angry about it showing four times a week now over three nights versus twice nightly a year ago (and most summers ... except when they had THREE shows a night!)
The only reason it has been cut is because it is very costly to show. Cutting it has also allowed TDO to close the park at 7 p.m. three nights a week (unbelievably on Fridays and Saturdays) for the first time in summer since the park opened (now ... where's the first person who wants to challenge that fact?) and save tremendously on labor as well.
Disney's World of Color, which should be Disney's WONDERFUL World of Color (need to ask Richard Sherman if this is someway of avoiding paying him and his bro royalties) since it is based on that show's theme song, will raise the bar of nighttime shows at Disney parks. It also will NOT be coming to WDW ... and has no place both literally and thematically at DAK.
Its technology may well wind up in the next version of Illuminations, but would be a completely different production ... and, no, to my knowledge it isn't anything but blue sky at present.
WoC IS coming to TDS. I believe it will be debutting in 2012.
Rivers of Light is dead and was a parade/street spectacular that would have used lights, animal imagery and Japanese lanterns in something very unique. But it wasn't on the water. It also didn't die because of any issues with tree removal. That was bull and was thrown out after millions were spent on development because Jay Rasulo wanted a boutique animal park, which as we know is dead.
Did I miss anything?
Oh yeah, Pocahontas was featured prominently in Fantasmic because they updated the show for its Disney-MGM debut in 1998 (six years after it opened in Anaheim) so they could include characters from films like Hunchback, Hercules and Mulan. I loved all of those films, so I don't have any issue with that. And Pocahontas was wonderful and made lots of money for Disney. It also had an incredible sountrack, which is why it will also be prominently featured in WoC next year.
Did I cover everything?
