Phasing out Fantasmic?

Is it possible that Fantasmic could be on its way out?
Comparing show times from this summer to last, there is a considerable drop in shows this year over Disney's peak season.
August 08 either single or double showing were on every night and August 09 see's showings on sundays, tuesdays and thursdays, with only a double showing on the thursdays.

Could it be that Disney are phasing out Fantasmic? Just a thought...:(

Welcome

While it may be a possibility - its DHS's only nighttime show and a major crowd puller. Its unlikely that it will be pulled - more just a temporary cut back in shows in these times of reduced guest numbers. I bet show frequency increases as summer guests increase

Certainly not, since it's the only night-crowd attractor.

But those changes are based from the economy most likely...

Plus the work that goes on each night for each show...

In any case, maybe when everything's better, then Fantasmic will have double shows again. :)

Unless someone at WDI plans to bring the World of Colour to DHS. :lookaroun

Wasnt Animal Kingdom the most likely candidate for World of Color if it ever came over to FL????? Or was it Rivers of Light was suppose to use a mix of the technology used in Rivers of Light and a traditional night Parade?

Fantasmic is here to stay I say. Even if it runs at 3 times a week for the next few years, it does pull in guests alone, so i cant see Disney getting rid of it. Maybe updating it eventually (princess and the Frog and all the other modern classics could now be added to the bubble sequence etc.

I did heard something about that Rivers of Light parade before, but assumed it was dead for now.

From what I recall, Rivers of Light was a misnomer, as didn't have anything to do with the "river" in AK, but more with the paths lights in the parade would make as they went around the park. Think light painting like in the Sprint commcerials. But it is pretty much dead in the water. Some people said its because the paths weren't wide enough, and others were saying something about needing to clear overhanging vegetation.

We were at DHS on July 20th and July 22nd. There were two showings of Fantasmic and both were standing room only. I don't think they'll be pulling that show any time soon, it's too much of a crowd pleaser. Now updating it, well that might be in order for those of us who have seen it countless times.:D

I don't think so because I've heard once World of Color opens in DCA that Fantasmic which is only seasonal in DL will close. They just got upgrades like a new dragon that would be moved to DHS's Fantasmic.

I would figure it's an economics thing more than anything else. It's a large production and large productions aren't cheap to run and maintain. The Mouse is still making money but not as much as before the recession, so they're likely cutting back on expenses like we all are.

That is highly unlikely to happen. DL Entertainment spent some big money to update Fantasmic recently. The new dragon, digital projectors etc. It won't be closing anytime soon.

As far as new things coming to WDW's Fantasmic....I would love to see some of the updates that DL got but don't see that happening anytime soon.

I find it extremely oderous that WDW cut this Fantasmic schedule back - what - 6/7 months ago, under fears that the economy/attendance was going to be a major problem.

And in the several months since the original cost-cutting cutbacks, while attendance has not drastically suffered, Fantasmic continues to run part time (unless the mobs get so bad that TDO begrudgingly offers an extra show or 2).

It's a great operating philosophy that carries on the tradition of customer service at the Disney Parks. Namely, cut while you can if you have a potentially good excuse. But if the excuse doesn't pan out, you can always keep the cuts, because after several months, everyone will forget why the cuts were made and accept it as the status quo.

That must be on P.425 of the TDO Manual. Oh, my bad, it's only a 1 page manual. Make that 1 sentence manual. "Efficiency trumps show and customer satisfaction."

The shows are too similar granted WOC has been taken to the next level but I don't think they will co exist fir to long.

I think the best place for WOC in WDW is WS lagoon, change the theme to the future and the nations!

Not true, the Wonderful World of Color would play at Disney's California Adventure as a compliment to Fantasmic and whatever fireworks spectacular they do at Disneyland Park. What is more likely is the Wonderful World of Color would perform on more nights than Fantasmic would due to seasonal status or cut back on the amount of showings of many nights from 2 to 1 unless the crowds deem it.

I don't think they will end Fantasmic! outright, but I would certainly not be surprised if they stick with the current schedule permanently. Disney has a track record of "forgetting" to reverse cutbacks introduced during slow years...I believe TDO's argument would be "well, if we made it through 2009 with Fantasmic! showing only 2-3 nights most weeks, and attendance was pretty much flat, why pay for more shows?"

One word to answer the OP.

Never.

It is considered not only the one major show in DHS but one of the most popular nighttime shows in Disneyworld. The thing is, people really love the show. It would be like them getting rid of ToT or Space Mountain. Never going to happen unless they are going to add something way bigger.
