Parking going up to $14

price hikes for parking, etc.

I know its just a dollar or two at a time, but at some point they are going to price themselves right out of the market. There will be a point at which people will say "enough". Just a thought.

Everything has that point.

I'm sure if we search hard enough we could find post saying the same thing when parking went up to $8 and every increment after that.

Just like every August everyone claims we have reached a tipping point with the one day pass.

I've always wondered how many people in the lot actually paid? I know I haven't paid to park at Disney in over 10 years.

There seems to be a real "nickel and diming" movement at WDW (and perhaps the other parks as well) right now. The rise in parking, a rise in stroller rentals (at least at DL), switching the hot dogs from all beef to a mix of chicken and beef (which are cheaper). It's little things, here ans there though......

On our 2008 trip the stroller rentals at WDW were significantly higher in price than the year before.

So glad we are annual pass holders. Whew. Gotta pass on the Mickey Bars, thats a bit steep for an ice cream. $9.75 for the 3 of us???? Whoa. I'll chomp on a candy bar if I get hungry!

Shades of Green already does. They also don't have access to the DME so you either have to rent a car or use other means, like taxis or Mears. If you rent a car, they charge $5 a day to park in the garage.

The Dolphin also charges for nightly parking and I wouln't be surprised if The Swan did too.

That is the whole point!

Disney WANTS you to reach that point. Then you either stay on property to avoid the fee, and/or you use Disney transportation when on property.

Either way, they increase their captive audience in the parks. And they sell more. Why should they make it more convenient and inexpensive to use other services than their own?

It's like adding a surcharge to the off-site hotels to bring them closer to Disney's value price. Not saying it is right or wrong, simply shrewd.

Based off a 12 hour 9 to 9 day it is about 86 cents an hour.

At a local AHL team we pay 15-20 dollars for about 3 hours. That is between 5 and 6 dollars an hour.

Disney is a bargain.

$14 is steep and that's from a Brit that finds Orlando cheap compaired to home.
Thankfully it won't affect me as I park at DTD get the boat to French Qtr and catch a resort bus to the parks :lookaroun

Jokin' I don't drive so If I am staying on I-Drive I jump on the Lynx to TTC for the main parks or DTD for the waterparks.

parking does not effect me but I still thin parking fees across the board are unreally. Going to Giants Stadium in NJ is 25. And I have to walk 15 minutes to get to the stadium.

No big surprise. Attendance is still holding steady, but discretionary spending is down. The right way to deal with that is to increase the gate and parking---things people have to pay just to get in the door.

As for onsite parking being free: it's not really free. It's "free". If you compare the costs onsite vs. off for rooms of similar quality, there is a significant premium for onsite. There are many reasons for that, and "free" parking is only one of them, but no one is getting one over on Mickey by staying in one of his rooms.

.....and green. Going green and "forcing" folks to use mass transit systems won't always be convinient or cheap. :D

But evidenty it's what folks want.

I stay on property so parking is not an issue for me but I do wonder how they justify the price. Basically it's free money for them. If you own an airplane, any size, you'd be shocked at what it cost's to park. Even for just a few minutes.
