Parking going up to $14

With the 4-for-7 (or 5-for-7), just one more reason to stay on property. It really is a great deal, I know some friends who are traveling during the deal who are saving an absurd amount of cash.

I had heard a rumor that Valet Parking at the hotels was going up as well, now it kind of makes sense since they wouldn't want it too much more cost effective to Valet at a hotel instead of using the Theme Park parking.

There seems to be a real "nickel and diming" movement at WDW (and perhaps the other parks as well) right now. The rise in parking, a rise in stroller rentals (at least at DL), switching the hot dogs from all beef to a mix of chicken and beef (which are cheaper). It's little things, here ans there though......

If they are saving an absurd amount of money they must be spending an absurd amount of money.

I suppose, although I guess an argument could be made for the fact that Disney can afford the 4/3 or 5/2 offerings because their rooms were on the high side to begin with......

It doesn't really bother me that much in all honestly. We're (full) AP holders, go bi-annually, and usually stay off-grounds. Plus, we use the TIW card for those meals we do eat in the park. So our overall trip costs are not that high, and we don't contribute to their profit margin that much. I guess we're Disney's nightmare that way. :ROFLOL:

If Disney is going to continue offering free dining and free nights at hotels, then they are going to raise costs elsewhere to recoup money lost to those promos. So food, merchandise, and now parking fees go up. If food prices go up high enough, the dining plan is going to look like a bargain:brick:. If one has to pay high prices for parking during their vacation, it is going to seem cheaper to stay on property. As we have seen over the years, not only have food and merchandise prices gone up, but quality has decreased (especially with food).

As a point of reference, parking at OIA's parking deck is $17 for a 24 hour period. Parking in the satellite lots will set you back only $10 for a 24 hour period and the airport will provide you with air-conditioned shuttle buses to the main terminal from the satellite lots.

I am glad I have an AP, but I can certainly see how the cost increases leave a bad taste in some people's mouths.

Per Jason Garcia of the Orlando Sentinel on his twitter account.

Car parking going from $12 to $14 on Sunday. No mention on other types of vehicles.

That's a 40% increase in 2 years.
Along with ticket prices, everything at Disney far out paces the rate of inflation. Parking was $10 during our July/Aug 2007 Trip. $12 this February and apparently will be $14 when we go in Jan.

Nuts...

I'm sure somebody will come along to give us 50 examples of where parking is higher, and tell us how $14 is a bargain.
Six Flags Great America - $15 for the back lot and $25 for the front lot. Back lot also has no tram and you get to walk across a road with moving cars.

So let's see, $2 in a year? So if we guess what the cost of parking will be in 10 years, that would make it in the $34 range is it? And then $54 in 20 years?

That seems kind of steep. So I wonder if they will start to back off on increases at some point, or just risk people deciding to not go to their parks...

I don't think this has been mentioned yet, but effective Sunday (the beginning of a new fiscal year for Disney), all full time / part time cast will be getting a hefty raise.
