Park Closed Early due to crowds

Is there a number we can call to check the status? For example, if I am in Epcot at 7 p.m. and I want to take the monorail to the MK, can I found out before I get there if they are letting people in?

Also, if they close the doors at 10 a.m. and the park loses people, would they then let more in later? Or does it affect the rest of the day? :veryconfu

Hmmmm, who do we believe? The kinfolk or the "unofficial guide" guy with a team of researchers on the ground?

Ha! It's entirely possible I'm wrong. But I can't imagine a common scenario under which the park would close with my two experiences being true.

Anyone know how crowds were on Thanksgiving? I ... I gave my people the day off. I know, I know. Crazy.

It's been a LOOOONG time since I went on a supercrowded day (It was the last few days of The Electrical Parade, whenever that was) and I think I remember seeing a sign at the Epcot monorail; we were staying at the Contemporary, so just opted to go back to our room, and watch the fireworks from there.

It was a zoo. And, you know how at certain times of the year, certain groups of people seem more prevalent than others? For example, there will be Japan week, New Jersey week, Brazil month, Massachusetts week, etc. Yesterday seemed to have a higher than normal percentage of people who were, for lack of a better word, lower class (and I don't mean monetarily) white folk. For example, a number of people were drunk or high. 3 boys were escorted out of the park for peeing in the bushes. There were people who continually felt the need to say, in a loud voice, how hot the characters must be in that costume. After being given the general Disney answer, one woman proceeded to loudly point out the zipper on Pluto's costume. After gently being given the hint a number of times to please stop, the woman finally said "my daughter knows there are people in those costumes." To which I, in a not so Disney like manner, said "other people's children do not!" "Oh, I'm sorry" she replied. People did not feel the need to discipline their children yesterday so children were running all over the place. When one parent came to us with a missing child in a store and was found 2 seconds later, I asked the mom if they had a plan for being lost (ie: cell phone number, look for white name tag). Nope, no plan. Those are the parents that freak out the most. One dad, who must have been frustrated by the long lines, felt the need to curse and swear at cast members and threaten them as well. He felt he could do that because he was spending $1400 per night to stay at the Grand Floridian and was shocked, shocked I say, to find that we treated him exactly the same as we treat all our guests and he didn't get any special treatment in the parks. Yes sir, I'd love to take your family's photo. I have a bit of a line, it ends back there." I'm paying $1400 per night staying in the Grand Floridian, I should get better treatment. "You are most definitely getting better treatment at your hotel sir. Congratulations on being able to stay there. Don't forget to try Victoria and Alberts. Now, I must get back to photographing these families in the Rose Garden."

Having said that, there were some great families there yesterday as well. A number of families had those pre-made cards and were handing them out. People (most people) waited in line nicely at night to be photographed with the castle.

Gorjus....I would like to say a big "thank you" to you and all the CMs that work on Holidays! Thanks!

Hats off to you, Gorjus (and other CMs). I don't think I could hold my tongue in situations like that. I'm baffled at why people think they can behave like that ANYWHERE.

Yeah, that's pretty much why I laugh when people here say it's a dream of their's to work at Disney. Having been through quite a few Holiday seasons in retail management...well...my desk job in my nice quiet office is what's best for me. My favorite was (cue faux sympathy) "it's SO terrible that this company is taking you away from your family and making you work today." After 100 or so of those, my conditioned response was: "If people like you weren't here, people like me could stay home. So if you really care, don't come next year." I'd much rather have a simple thank you. So...on that note...cheers Gorjus. I appreciate everything you and the rest of the cast do to brighten the days and spread cheer to park visitors. Most of the silent majority are grateful as well.

That makes me mad when people say stuff like that about the characters:brick:

I've been noticing an above average number of rude guests at the parks lately. I have no idea what's brought about it, but I sure wish it would stop. The holidays should be a time of bringing people together - peace and joy and all that - but that's sure not what I've been seeing. Quite the opposite, actually...

I just came back from WDW. It was ridiculous.

The worst was 170 mn line for Soarin.... the Magic Kingdom mountains never went below 60 mn wait times, either. I'm used to long lines at Disney World but it was almost not worth it. We actually ended up leaving a few hours earlier because we couldn't get fast passes (they were all given out by noon at most of the rides!) and we couldn't wait for that long.

I think 170 minutes is past my limit. I don't stand in any line for ANYTHING including things alot better than Disney for that long.

Hello I am glad I found this thread because i was going to actually to start a thread for my question so I will just put it here since it is within the topic. Next year Thanksgiving will fall on the 27th of November and we were wondering would it only be that week prior from the 23rd to the 27th that would be busy or when people say the week before Thanksgiving is busy do they mean from the 16th....oh I am positive that I am being to congfusing ...sorry. We are just tryingto decide which time would be slower last week in october to the 7th of Nov or Nov 9th to the 21st and just can not decide I hope that someone will understand what I just asked in this mess of a post and be able to help me....lol...Thank you!

Farmgirl, it doesn't seem to bleed over into the week before or after traditionally. Check out touringplans.com and they can give you fairly detailed breakdowns as far as historical crowd figures and wait times.

If you're fairly flexible with your dates, arguably the absolute best time to hit the parks is the full week after Thanksgiving. The parks are already in their Christmas colors, and the crowds are pretty low.

Hmmm.....I may have to try this evil, yet brilliant plan :drevil:

 I'm not sure what my plan is really all about. I think I just really want to go to WDW...but a repeat of Superbowl 37 would be even better...

Its now being called The Patriot Bowl........19-0:sohappy:

Yep. I have gone several time from after T-giving through 12/20 and the parks were so much fun. This is one of my fave times to hit the parks. I've never seen AK during this time so this year I am going to give it more attention.

We arrived the weekend of the 16th and stayed till yesterday. There was extreme noticeable change from the Sunday to Thanksgiving as far as crowds. Literally we walked right on Big Thunder Sunday afternoon and Monday morning stood in line at Peter Pan for an hour. I assumed being there the weekend before and leaving by Thanksgiving would be okay, but it was horrible. To make matters worse, I brought a friend who had never been to WDW and all she did was complain about the lines and such the entire time.

I did however cheat a bit by getting a fast pass for Soarin on Monday night and using it on Tuesday night (all fastpasses for Soarin were gone by Tuesday morning). The castmembers were barely checking as even the fastpass line was obscene.
