News Paradise Pier Becoming Pixar Pier

I haven't seen the video but it is disappointing people don't like the coaster more. I will judge it when I ride it this summer. But in all honesty I think Pixar Pier is a huge improvement vs what's there before but I never thought PP was anything special in the first place. I like going to ride CS and TSM but then would leave. Nothing about it felt interesting to stick around, even after they changed it over for 2.0. Another small improvement but still nothing great.

Whats there now just looks a lot better and will excite kids more. But it is sad they were so cheap to start late the place won't even be completely finished another year. That's just ridiculous for what is a pretty minor layover. But they treated it like it was too minor.

Do you have any recommendations there on the menu?

As the good Dr. mentioned, the menu is seasonal, so it's likely changed since last time I was there as well. If it's available and you can swing it, I would highly recommend the Chef's Table (counter really). Tell them what ingredients you really like, as well as things you don't like (or of course are allergic to) then sit back and enjoy the special courses. Add the wine flight, and it's honestly the best meal on the property.

Personally, I don't think seaside pier rides (even if there is story involved) really adhere to any strict set of rules like you'd find in a more traditional immersive e-ticket attraction that spends time pulling you into an environment/world. I think with rides of this nature, it's hard to take it in beyond its surface value. It simply is a seaside rollercoaster that is trying to be a little more than what you'd usually find in one. I don't think any guest for a single second is going to get caught up or believe they are on some real Incredibles adventure though nor do I think that anyone at WDI, in their heart of hearts, ever expected them to.

But isn't that a problem? This is Disney. The whole point is getting the audience believe they are on some real Incredibles Adventure. And the second Imagineers realized that wouldn't happen, they should have scrapped the project and developed something better.

In order for my to suspend disbelief that that's Dash running, Jack Jack teleporting, Elastigirl stretching, it has to be set up that that can happen in the context of the ride.

We can watch a well made film, or ride a well made ride with dated special effects and suspend disbelief. But if you can't get the audience to suspend disbelief, then it just comes across as tacky and cheap.

The problem definitely arises from this coaster trying to be more than it is. As soon as a ride tries to tell a story and have figures and effects, I'm going to hold it to the same standard I hold every other Disney ride that tries to tell a story.

We didn't give Tomorrowland '98 a pass for trying to be more than it is. It was reviled by fans and eventually done away with. So is it unfair to hold Pixar Pier to the same standard?

Feel like I'm maybe beating a dead horse here... the main issue is inherent to the land itself, not the attraction. Paradise Pier really should never have found its way into a Disney park to begin with. But it did, so here we are. As I've been saying all along, it was designed to be the postcard-perfect pier of DCA with amusement rides, not unlike much like any other pier with amusement rides. To expect guests to be willing enough to truly immerse themselves in a storyline for a semi-traditional open air rollercoaster is unrealistic. There's not much of a point in trying to go all the way there, so at the very least, you may as well just have some fun with it.

Is this the best they could have done? No way, not by a long shot. But for the purpose of a conversation about 'rules,' I think they're kind of pointless with an non-immersive area like this.

Drupercharger is superstar Limo 2.0.

At least people will genuinely still clap when this finishes. You know you've hit rock bottom when the reaction getting off a ride is one of general confusion.

I think that some of us could agree that this could become SuperStar Limo part 2.

I can't agree at that at all. I rode SSL the first week, it was bad, boring and creepy ride using mostly B-level actors as weird moving mannequins that just didnt work. It couldn't get more than 10 min waits most of its run.

The Incredicoaster is still a great ride with popular characters. Even if people think the lay over itself is cheap the ride is still a thrilling. And no one has even been on it yet. Its being judged by a short clip on youtube. I know its the internet can we at least wait for actual people to ride before we decide its totally bad.

SSL had no redeeming value. There was not one positive thing I could say about it.

Never been to DLR yet, but glad to see the drop in Disney quality does not affect WDW alone. Guess we will all need to go to Asia to see Disney quality of years ago. Anyway... gotta love the Jack-Jacks on a stick.. very well done! :jawdrop:

As someone who has been to all the Asia parks multiple times and was just in Hong Kong last month that's not the worse idea. ;) I wouldn't suggest HKDL just yet, that still needs a lot of fine tuning but you can't go wrong with SDL or TDR. Both great parks and resorts.

I meant the quality level in areas. Not comparing it to the Incredicoaster.
