Over hyped Star Wars Galaxy's Edge

You also cannot argue the film has taken a critical dubbing. Even if you suggest conspiracy theories or that the movie wasn't that bad, it's divided many fans and critics alike.

All the scores from the critics are that, on average, 80% were for it, 20% against.

When you remove the self-selecting unscientific internet surveys, the general audience response is the same: 80/20.

The 20% who didn't like it really hated it. So, it definitely is polarizing. But the poles aren't evenly balanced for and against. It's 80/20. It's not exactly "divided" evenly.

So you think posters are devoid of basic forecasting, extrapolating, vision or any other ordinary human skill???
No, not at all. I do think that, even though someone may have a strong opinion on an as-yet-to-be-opened addition to a theme park, the final judgement can’t be made until one experiences it for themselves. Even endless pictures and videos after it has opened won’t tell the true story until it is experienced. There are always the intangibles that don’t always come through pictures, blueprints, models or videos. I got my fill of Pandora videos and pictures last year, but I didn’t really form a strong opinion until I visited Pandora 5 months after it opened.

As a huge Star Wars fan and long time Vintage (toys made from 1977-1985) Star Wars collector, I am completely disappointed in what Disney has planned for their Star Wars Land. I’m a George Lucas purist and not a fan of what Disney has done so far with the franchise. I’ve often thought how great a Star Wars theme park be but I’m disappointed that the land is not based on the OT but more so on Disney version of Star Wars. If you told me the land and rides were based on the OT, I would be there day 1 no matter the cost but now I feel I’ll check it out someday I guess. Star Wars has been my favorite thing since being child in the 80’s and it kills me that this land is not for me.
I wholeheartedly agree! I totally get that I (someone who saw A New Hope in theaters in '77) am not the target audience. But, I still believe that not including some of the most iconic characters and locations in cinematic history is a big mistake. When I showed my daughter (who is almost 21) Star Wars, I started with the original trilogy -- not the prequels. When I showed my 6 year old nephew Star Wars, I showed him the original trilogy first. Then, got into Clone Wars, prequels, etc. He is way more into Darth Vader than Kylo Ren. Most of my friends take the same approach to indoctrinating new fans.

Maybe I'm just an old scruffy-looking nerf herder. But, I really wish that I could go to a Star Wars land that represented the best (in my humble opinion) of Star Wars.

I'll treat it like Avatar - expect very little out of it. I'm a huge Star Wars fan and figure they'll screw it up somehow. I say this after seeing Harry Potter lands at Universal. I had such high expectations and when I saw it all in person? Meh. Not impressed ay all. So now I expect little. I don't actually think that we'll care much about it since no one else is much of a SW fan

If the Harry Potter areas (especially Diagon Alley) were just 'meh' to you, I'd say it's a safe bet that not much impresses you lol.

What themed lands do you find impressive? I'm genuinely asking to see where your bar is set.

Do you have all of the data to show a comparison? I’d be extremely interested to read it.

I can’t imagine that in 1977 the merchandise frenzy was anywhere near what it was in 2015/2016. My kid had a Kylo Ren costume and lightsaber and bedding before the movie even came out.. oh, and a hologram painting of Phasma and her stormtroopers.
That frenzy lasted from pre-release thru Christmas- thru birthdays, etc etc.
Was it really that same level of intensity for the same amount of time before/after the first one? Was the same amount of merchandise even available?

Actions figures weren't even available until 1978. There was very little merchandise the first year, t-shirts, posters, trading cards. It took a year for it to hit but then it hit big. They made a fortune off of it and continue to do so. Hasbro has been taking a hit lately due to their poor distribution and their lack of quality. They started making figure that lack articulation and started to make cheap stuff... they actually started that years ago. Its a shame, hopefully they get back on track.

Audience score on Rotten Tomatoes was 47%. It has been widely panned by the consumers. The Box Office for a Star Wars movie was weak. Furthermore, if they are creating a poor product it will eat into the next movie.

Take away the hype, and it's essentially just another Marvel type product, rather than some biblican proportion epic event that it's sold as these days.

The problem with the two movies that have come out, is that you can tell a studio, execes have had their imprints all over it, rather than it being some independent vision. You'll have an exec there who is saying we need a female character here to appeal young girls and be politically correct, we need a robot here so we can make money from the merchandise, and we can't kill this character off because it will eat into merchandise sales. It's all too safe, and it stifles creativity. They've spent so much acquiring the rights to it, that they just don't want to destroy it, and are playing too safe.

The Last Jedi was simply awful.

That is what the Audience score shows, but you stated (and keep stating) that the movie was poorly received critically. As myself and others have pointed out, that simply isn't the case.

I think it's going to be great, but will make it sooooo crowded. People like my brother (who for some reason hates Disney) will go because he's such a Star Wars fan. I suspect he won't be the only one.

Or, I had it so over hyped that by the time I got there I expected more. It was crowded, the stores were small. I had expected larger scales to many things. That was all. After that disappointment I took every "OMG this is soooo awesome" with a grain of salt. My expectations were so high that it never could have lived up to them. Same thing happened with the rest of the family. We just over hyped it all and expected movie sized stores and walkways and such.

So it has nothing to do with not being impressed. It has to do with expectation levels. Avatar I went in thinking it'd be meh, it surprised me. Had I done the same with HP at Universal, I would have loved it I think. As it is we won't go back for a while and let our minds reset. We'll go in thinking less of it and I'm sure it will grow on us. I just had years and years of waiting to see it which didn't help.

and in the end they kind of killed off Finn anyway giving him a side plot with the Asian chick and minimizing his story to a supporting character whereas in the first one he was one of the leads.
You just know Rose was cast because an exec in the boardroom said 'we need more money in China'.

I find your lack of faith disturbing
I can't believe it took 14 posts until this was quoted. I thought for sure it would have been top 5. Lol

As for the "classic" vs Disney star wars debate. I see both sides of things. I get why Disney is grounding the land in the now. It makes perfect sense to me. I hope with the new land they don't show the same aversion to legacy aliens like they have in the movies. Having Gamorreans, Mon calamari, Ithorians, sand people... would help give it a classic feel without having it locked in the OT. It would also make sense since this is a space port and you should see a bit of everything.
