Our last minute first ever trip without the kids: August 2009

Well, we did it. We actually took a trip to the world without our four kids. I really felt kind of bad about taking a trip without them, but after our fiascos on the plane I'm really glad we did it. I'm sure on our next trip our kids will be the best behaved young ones ever. :D

So let's back up a bit. It all started when my dh, Sam, came home from work after hearing about low airfares. He went straight to the computer and started looking at booking a quick trip for the two of us. I rolled my eyes at him and thought that he could look all he wanted, but there was no way we were taking a trip! Then, he started looking into disney...:lookaroun

I started thinking how we really deserved this trip...I had just finished school and got my license to teach, I had had eye surgery in June to correct a detached retina, Sam had been working a lot of overtime...we could use a break. Then we realized that if we used our points, we would only need to pay for air fare and food for this trip. Sold!!! :sohappy:

I booked the next day and the only thing available was Saratoga or Old Key West. We had never stayed at OKW, so we booked a studio. We waitlisted for BWV, but with only a month to be on the waitlist I figured we would never get it. We were happy to try something new anyway. We were very excited to get our vacation info in the mail!

Here we are all ready to go, when two days before we get off the waitlist it actually comes through!! Now we have to get into the mindset of staying at BWV. I think we can manage!

Scrapbook pages?! What are those? :ROFLOL: I'm actually excited to have some time to work on my cruise book now.

Tusker House Daisy Duck is one of my favorites!! Love how she's posing in the picture with Sam. And I really like your "Island Girl" tank top. Very cute!

Oh yeah, and the Everest pictures are awesome!

Yay! I can't wait to see pics from the cruise book!

Yes, the girl characters really loved Sam on this trip. On our last morning, I really had to pry Minnie away from him!

Thanks about the pics! :D

Phew! Glad it wasn't broken!

Wow, Sam got his money's worth at the breakfast!:lol:

You're so funny!

Yes, Sam needs to get our money's worth for both of us!

Oh, and sorry all for the use of the word s-u-c-k-i-n-g in the previous post. I fogot that it would sensor it!

So our fastpass time was up and I told Sam that I didn't think that I could ride EE again so close together. I did end up giving it a try though. I was just hoping that I wouldn't feel sick later.

A quick view from the top, which I was trying to focus on instead of feeling sick..

I'll be back with more of day 2 later. I do have to get something done today. Sam had to go back to work while I sit here in my pjs chatting.

Love your trip report so far, you've got some great pictures! I am so jealous of your adults only trip, mt dh and I have a big anniversary coming up in March and he thinks I'm nuts because I would rather us 2 go to Disney instead of Jamaica (where we honeymooned) or Vegas.

Thanks!

That's how it all starts! They start looking at places like Vegas, but we don't budge until they come to places like wdw!

I'm glad you didn't get tea all over your keyboard! Then both your computer and my camera would be broken! Seriously it took over two hours until my camera would actually turn off. The humidity was really playing with it! :hammer:

A grown up trip  looks like fun! I don't think we'd do the single rider lines much...it would be great to actually get to sit with DH on more rides. DD usually rides with me on everything except Buzz. That's the only time DH gets a partner :(

Great report...love the pictures!!!

Ha Ha!! great update!!! :ROFLOL: Had to laugh about the camera issue... At least it wasn't broken and you figured out the issue!!!

When we were ar Tusker House in December, Donald still came around to the tables! I was so disappointed when I read he now is outside for the professional pic!!! That stinks!!!

Thanks! I did enjoy getting to sit with Sam for the majority of rides, but rides like Test Track and RnRC were great because I was so willing to not sit by him to bypass the hour long wait.

I know it's really a bummer that Donald doesn't come around anymore. I liked it better having that generic picture outside and more characters inside.

We decided to ride Kali since it was hot and I had pulled my hair into a ponytail. I really hate getting my hair wet, but I was willing to sacrifice. Sam hit the restroom and I waited on a bench. I had a little duck friend to pass the time with.

IMG_4263.jpg

I'm not a huge fan of Kali, but I do like the queue.

We actually had a lot of fun on the ride because we were with a fun family. It was their first time on the ride and they had two little girls that were worried about getting wet. They of course ended up getting soaked and it was just so funny to see their faces. They were so cute! I managed to not get overly soaked, but my shorts were all wet which is always super comfortable.

We walked around a bit and took some random pictures before we headed out.

Wait what was I saying? We didn't head out yet. I guess I forgot for a minute there! But here are a few more random shots.

That's right, we were thinking about leaving and we walked by ITTBAB and I asked Sam if he wanted to go see it and he said sure, so we went. He said if we went I had to experience everything and not cheat by sitting up in my seat, so I did.

Now I can't even believe that I am going to post this ridiculous picture of myself. I have an even sillier pic of Sam that goes with it that I will not post here since Sam doesn't even want me to post any pictures of him so I will be sensitive. But I suppose I have to try to keep this entertaining and I'm sure you all want to see ridiculous pictures. So here goes. Sam told me to make a face like he did and here is the scary result.....

IMG_4285.jpg

When we came out of ITTBAB there were crying children and parents laughing about how scared their kids were. I don't know if I've ever seen that many upset people. I think the majority of the people in there had never experienced this show judging from the screams as the spiders descended. It was pretty funny.

Now after we did ITTBAB, we did wander toward the front and head out. I was a bit disappointed not to find any characters at the park entrance. I was kind of hoping to see some like last time.

A few last AK pictures, this would be the last time we were here for this trip.

IMG_4290.jpg

We decided to go to the MK since we hadn't been there yet and low and behold there was a bus to the TTC right there that we ran to catch. Luck was with us once again. It was kind of neat to get dropped of at the TTC. I hadn't seen it for awhile.

monorail.jpg

I was happy to be entering the MK. I love that place!

Another ridiculous picture thanks to Sam.

IMG_4293.jpg

I'm including these pictures just for you, Tammy, so you can see how horrible my hair looked after I threw it up.

We'll be back here tomorrow.

IMG_4295.jpg

IMG_4296.jpg

I already have a wet butt (can I say that?) might as well go on Splash...

IMG_4301.jpg

IMG_4303.jpg

IMG_4306.jpg

That was another fun ride. We had to get the front row so that I had no choice but to get soaked. And there was a dad and son behind us that were so cute! He was telling me all about the ride and how I was going to get wet. Precious. I didn't even bother trying to duck or anything, but I did cheat a bit and put my hands over my face to try to save my makeup.

No, I don't have to worry about it- it's just all crusty and flat looking from the hairspray getting wet.

So after we did Splash and BTMRR, we decided to hop on the train and take it to Main Street.

IMG_4311.jpg

As we stopped at Toon Town I saw character friends out, no characters but the friends were out, so I thought there was a chance some were coming out and I made Sam get out there to see. Too bad, they went inside and there were no characters, but we tried.

IMG_4313.jpg

We wandered around a bit and decided to go on one of my favorites, the Haunted Mansion.

We were feeling a bit hungry, so we decided to go visit Sonny Eclipse for a while. I was happy that it was a bit of an off time, so we were able to get a table right in front of Sonny.

IMG_4324.jpg

After we ate, we decided we had done enough in the MK and were ready to go back to the room and freshen up a bit. After a rest, we thought we should hit up Epcot and do something there.

We walked out to the boardwalk and it started to rain. I was like- NOOOOO, not another night of rain. But I put my camera away again and whipped out the poncho. Sam had to take a picture of me in my poncho with his cell phone because he was having too much fun making fun of my wearing it. He was calling me Mr. Roboto. When I had the hood up it was hard to turn my head and see things at the side of me, so I guess I would behave a bit like a robot while I slowly turned my head to look around me without disturbing my hood.

We get to Epcot and decide to wait in an hour long line to see Soarin'. I'm not sure why we decided to wait so long, but we didn't know if we'd ever be to Epcot soon enough to get a fastpass before they were sold out, so we figured we might as well wait. We people watched the people in line to try to pass the time. There was plenty of entertainment there.

After our long wait, we got a strawberry shortcake for Sam at Sunshine Seasons. He thinks it's the best ever. And this time is was cold just like he likes it. We headed back to the room because we were beat.

We got there just in time to hear some fireworks from illuminations. Sam said we could see them just a bit from our room. So I went out to take a picture for the kids to tell them we could see the fireworks a bit. Some women were out there and they started yelling at me that I missed the best part and way to get out there for the end. I'm not sure what their problem was, but since I just got to my room I really couldn't have gotten out there any sooner. Weird.

IMG_4325.jpg

I'm really not sure why some people care so much about what others do.

All right, gear up for a day at the MK tomorrow. Yay!
