Our 8th WDW Adventure..the trip I 'took out' one of my teenage sons..that's Rippin'!

Here it is, the next installment in our Disney adventures hot off the press for your reading pleasure. For those who’ve followed my last reports (and I, theirs) rest assured that this report will rival my first from January ’09. One of y’all must’ve ratted me out to Tinkerbell and had her read my last report because she tracked us down after we got to WDW and thoroughly flogged us with her wand o’pixie dust. We inhaled. Then we drank the water. The result was a rocket-shot straight to the top of the magic-meter....and our faith in wishing upon stars to make dreams come true has been restored in full and then some. So....please stand clear of the doors....por favor mantanganse alijado de las puertas....hold onto your hats and glasses, ‘cause this here’s the wildest ride in the wilderness!!!!

Preface: ((<---heh-heh...Who puts a preface in their TRs???))

I couldn’t do this report justice without a bit of back-story for the usual gang out there who tunes in. Everyone else can just skip forward. Let’s be honest, we all sorta vaguely follow each other’s lives indirectly by reading each others’ reports and conversing over various topics. We catch the milestones as they relate to our common thread of Disney addiction. I don’t know if others are as insane as we are but our lives tend to revolve around our Disney adventures in some way, shape, or form. The significance of our 8th family adventure can’t be appreciated unless you hear some of the highlights since we last left you at the conclusion of our 7th trip in January this year.

Did ya notice the underlying sadness in that last trip and report? We did. For months we blamed it on Mother Nature’s cruel-n-frigid prank with the weather. As 2010 progressed we came to understand where the dark cloud that seemed to follow us around really came from. It came from us. Yep. We did that. Going into that trip we knew that this year was going to be rough. Tracey had already been job searching for over a month. We knew his project was nearing completion and jobs in his line of work were evaporating daily. Even with the nest-egg we had worked so hard to prepare ourselves with, the uncertainty the future held was overwhelming. So we arrived at WDW on that trip not knowing if or when we’d be able to return. The thought that we were staring down what could potentially be our last adventure for quite some time was heartbreaking. For an example: the joy & excitement in arriving was overshadowed from the very start by the sad idea that we possibly wouldn’t have that again. You see? It was those kinds of things that had us dragging that dark rain cloud around with us everywhere we went. At the conclusion of our January 2010 trip we actually gave thought to the idea that maybe our pixie dusted glasses had been shattered and the magic that used to live within our hearts had all but died. I wasn’t sure we’d ever go back even if everything worked out in the months to come.

And then life has it’s way of flinging the perspective stick it at you. In our family’s case, it was the whole stinkin’ tree.

Our year of insanity included: Tracey unemployed for the first time in 17 years, me standing up to the bubba’s in the public school system here and taking back control of our children’s educations, Tracey set a new record for himself (gotta laugh) for the most number of employers within a single year at 4 while the boys & I plunged headlong into homeschool together which is HUGE and life-changing in itself. It’s been crazy with all the twists-n-turns and the ups-n-downs. There were numerous times we could literally see ourselves losing everything we’ve worked so hard for all these years. In spite of everything that life threw at us, we were still happier than we’d been in a long time. Like Mama Odie says to Tiana & Naveen, ya gotta know whatcha neeeeeed. With each other we have always had everything we needed. Everything else, all the stuff, even Walt Disney World...it’s all just the lagniappe. Without life kicking us square in the tookus so our big ol’ heads could pop out for 2 1/2 minutes we might have gone on overlooking the best stuff in life.

And so we arrived at our 8th Walt Disney World adventure raring to go with a renewed perspective and a whole lot to be thankful for: each other.

Enough of all that mushy-gushy stuff. Let’s get this show on the road!

Here’s the particulars and the plan:

WHO: Tracey/DH, Chandler/DS-14 yro, Brian/DS-13 yro, Riley Belle/DFG (Dear Furry Girl), and Kelly/me!

WHERE & WHEN: (it was a 3 week multi-part road trip)

<-- 11/8-11/11..........Gramma’s house in Pensacola, Florida
<-- 11/11-11/21........Walt Disney World: Port Orleans French Quarter and Best Friends Pet Resort
<-- 11/21-11/28........My folk’s house/Nana & Grandpaw’s house in Monroeville, Alabama

THE TWISTS:

The boys & I aren’t limited to the schedule that Tracey has with work. We drove and had fun along the way. Tracey flew in to meet us at WDW on arrival day and flew back to Houston on departure day. Thanksgiving morning he flew again & I picked him up. Even with all the gas in the car added to Tracey’s airfare(s) we still spent less than we would’ve for the 4 of us to fly round trip to Orlando. We haven’t had our own car at WDW with us since our 4th family trip. Having our car there was something I really, really wanted again and am sooooo glad we did. Besides, I love a good road trip and that time spent with just me & the boys was a blast!

Finally... after all the Christmas hula-baloo I'm all caught up with the trip report. You've been a busy bee (I haven't even started the text for mine :lookaroun). I'm loving it all... some of my favorite stories so far: the Pirate's League experience and your mad dash for TSMM fastpasses both had me laughing out loud. Loved the internal dialogue you had going on as you stepped it into high gear. You should totally do a half marathon or something... there's no way you wouldn't finish. Your competitive nature alone would carry you all the way to the finish line!

Oooh..I saw these adorable little plushies. The slippers kill me.

IMG_0246.jpg

IMG_0247.jpg

I fell in love with both of these on our recent trip, and I'm sooooooo sad they don't carry the smaller plush for our tree (because then I'd totally have an excuse to buy them up!).

We had been in touch with Aunt Laura during the day and she was meeting up with us for dinner at the Poly. Cool beans! We had some time to kill before it was time to meet up. I thought of Holly & Brett and their little waterfall so I took a pic.

DSCN0620.jpg

"OUR" waterfall! Thanks for the picture and shout out... less than three months and we'll be checking in for our wedding. I must remember to get the professional photographer to get a picture of us out here. Thanks, Kelly. And you can paparazzo my wedding ANY time. :animwink:

I still love the peekin’ tiki:

DSCN0622.jpg

I think this is my favorite detail in the Bou-tiki. Well, either this or the small Stitch picking at a ukulele. It's quite the toss up.

I'm glad your trip is in the zone and hitting on all cylinders... looking forward to more.

I can't believe you are using Christmas as an excuse not to finish this report, shame on you! Ha, JK. I enjoyed seeing you all this week, and please have a safe trip home. Look forward to seeing you all again next weekend, and I think Christmas Day after Santa and Christmas dinner ( those huge Ribeyes), we all deserve another installment, whatcha think? Merry Christmas my precious little sis! :xmas:

LOL! Yeah. What's your excuse for the past 2 trips??? Yeah, last week was great being able to see you and Mom-n-Dad every day. Not doing laundry for a week was a big perk. That was a heckuva gift from Mom right there! LOL! We couldn't have finished the slab without ya so thanks for all the help.

The ribeyes turned out okay...not great. It was waaaay too cold and windy to grill.

Hope your Christmas with the girls was all you'd hoped for and then some. See y'all this weekend!

Now I have something to look forward to for after Christmas. Have a great holiday!

Yep! That you do! The holiday was wonderful. Hope it was equally as sweet for you and yours.

That's okay about not starting your text yet. It'll all come in time. We'll let you off the hook for now knowing we have a wedding report to look forward to sooner than later. :D

Yeah, I'm so odd. I know my little conversations with myself are proof positive but I'm okay with that. They make for good examples of the insanity that some moments hold. That TSMM dash is definitely one of those moments. I've all but thrown in the towel on running. This year hasn't been so good for time to run. Honestly, I need it now more than ever. Maybe that'll make it into my list of resolutions for the new year. My competitive nature really irritates me sometimes, tho. I can tell myself a zillion times to not do it but then in the moment this primal thing takes over and all logic is gone. When it comes to physical challenges I get really, really tough on myself, too. I can't stand when my body wants to be all wimpy. More strangeness. I know. Can't help it.

Those are some adorable plushies. They need to do more variety and different sizes. Well, maybe not because then I'd be collecting yet another thing. :lookaroun

Small Stitch picking up a ukelele? Refresh my memory. Have I seen that? Where is it? The peekin' tiki rocks!

More report shall be on it's way soon.... Thanks for hanging in with me on this long report.

We had a great Christmas! The boys were thoroughly surprised and pleased with Santa's visit. :xmas: Snow? I'm jealous. Snow is like a destination for us. We always talk about "going to see snow" like the snow is the destination. It doesn't have to be anywhere in particular. We've only seen snow a couple times in our lives and then it was only an inch or so that hung around for 1/2 a day. Isn't that terrible???

WDW Day 8 - November 18th: Soarin’ Behind the Seeds into a Very Merry day o’Magic!

WDW Day 8 - November 18th: Soarin’ Behind the Seeds into a Very Merry day o’Magic!

Today was our Christmas party day so there was a bit of strategy going on. We needed to get up & moving early so we’d get a good nap so we could stay the course into the night for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.

Sooooo...I set my alarm for 6 a.m. anticipating my inability to jump up right away then didn’t get up until 6:45. I quickly straightened my hair & got ready to go. We had breakfast at Sassagoula Floatworks and were in the car by 8:30. Brian really had the routine down with loading/unloading the wheelchair into the car. We were like a NASCAR pit crew! LOL!

Today started out here!

DSCN0870.jpg

We waited at the turnstiles then advanced to the actual “rope” for rope drop. Here’s the guys waiting for the big drop. Silliness abounds:

DSCN0871.jpg

Aaaaand, Tracey is reading the news. Don’t try to hide it, Tracey. We see that iPhone in your hand, ya crackhead!

DSCN0872.jpg

While we were standing here I made conversation with Chandler by asking him how the experience of the wheelchair was treating him. Overall, he doesn’t like it. I asked him about his perspective from that position. Aunt Laura always jokes that the vantage point always involves lotsa backsides. I crouched down next to Chandler to see what he sees. Yep. It’s butt-shot heaven down here.

DSCN0873.jpg

Eventually the rope dropped and we were in the herd enroute to Soarin’. I hate the herd but today wasn’t as bad because I wasn’t by myself trying to book-it ahead. We had discussed the strategy of the morning. I wasn’t volunteering to do the foot-race again so we decided to mooooo-ve with the herd and ride the wave on in. No problem. There were plenty of folks doing the foot-race. We cheered ‘em on. We didn’t pause or take evasive action when these daredevils sought opportunity to hop in front of Chandler’s wheelchair. If that was your heels that took a little grindage today, well, wheelchairs aren’t a sign to leap or cut in front. They can move just as fast as you if the person pushing has it in them. LOL!

As we passed the backside of Innoventions and The Land came into view Chandler & I both had this funny-as-all-heck thought: what if right here we broke left from the crowd and started running full-speed towards Imagination screaming “Oh my Gaaaawwdd!!!! Captain Ee-YOOOOOOO!!! We’re first! We’re fiiiirst!!!!!” I guess ya had to be there. The thought of anyone running towards JII or EO nowadays is a hilarity unto itself, I suppose.

We had to go down the elevator vs. the bottleneck at the escalator down to the entry level which I feel was a bit of an advantage. We didn’t stop at the entrance for FP’s. We opted to move on into the queue together. Our wait time was maybe 5 minutes. On our way back out Tracey grabbed some FPs for later.

Next we were eager to go do some Test Drivin’ so we headed on over there. We were able to ride at TT twice with zero wait. Awesome! Here we are at the TT accessible entrance waiting our turn:

DSCN0874.jpg

Chandler & me lookin’ mighty cool as we proceeded to the seatbelt check:

DSCN0875.jpg

A corrosive Hidden Mickey!

DSCN0876.jpg

Tracey wants this new Green Machine for Christmas. He had a Green machine when he was a kid but this is a little different. Uuuhh...it’s not looking good for him.

DSCN0877.jpg

On our way in from our high speed runs I had to get a pic of me & my baby Boo:

DSCN0878.jpg

Tracey? You okay back there?

We hurried out to see our picture but didn’t catch it in time. I guess the wheelchair reload slowed us down just enough to miss. Dangit. It was fun anyway. On our second run I took more pics and I think Tracey or Chandler did, too.

DSCN0885.jpg

Great ride...again. We hurried out this time to see our picture. WooHooo!!!

Photo0067FourBySix.jpg

We waited around a few minutes to be able to grab another FP for TT. This is a top family favorite, ya know. Queue the music! It’s waiting fun pic time again!

“Wheels”! It had to be done!

DSCN0887.jpg

It’s not that easy too look super-cool when your little brother is behind you doing this:

DSCN0888.jpg

It wasn’t that long ago that we stood our kids in front of these things crossing our fingers they’d measure up. Now they’re plenty big even when seated!!!! Waaaaaaaahh!!!!!

DSCN0889.jpg

Brian, of course, always comes up with the perfect pose for the moment. Such a ham!

FPs in hand, we walked next door to Mission:Space. We waited a whole 10 minutes. Hey guys, show the gang what team we’re on. Oh yeah!

DSCN0892.jpg

This guy was on the Orange Team, too!

DSCN0893.jpg

We made it to Mars with success in spite of that crazy landing we had to make. It was almost time for our Soarin’ FP’s so we decided to make our way back over towards The Land. We were a little early for the FP return so Tracey decided to check what the Behind the Seeds schedule was for the day. We did this tour previously in May ’08 without the kids and thought it’d be something that would shed a different light on what they see when they ride Living with the Land. We signed up for the noon tour then headed in to use our Soarin’ FP power. Oh yes. Anytime you bypass that kind of line you know you’re basking in the power oozing from these precious little pieces of paper.

DSCN0894.jpg

While we were in our shorter line for Soarin’ Chandler joked with his dad about being an ‘Environmental Hero’ for his little donation to the conservation fund at the tour sign-up register. Give us a little superhero, Dad!

DSCN0895.jpg

Oooh...the blue glow is inspiring. These are what Chandler calls his ‘Epic Family’ shots:

IMG_3101.jpg

IMG_3102.jpg

IMG_3103.jpg

And then it was time.

DSCN0896.jpg

We had hoped to have some time for lunch after Soarin’ but our shortened wait time took a little longer than anticipated and we didn’t want to miss our all-important tour. We opted for a snack to hold us over which totally made the kids mad at us but that’s okay. They’re mad now but they’ll get glad again. Mad props to John/Blackthidot for going on about the strawberry shortcake from Sunshine Seasons like he did. It totally lived up to the hype!

DSCN0898.jpg

Chandler had this chocolate yumminess stuff which I wasn’t quite quick enough on the picture but at least I tried.

It’s tour time, baby!

We looked at lots & lots of stuff. I took lots & lots of pictures. You know, gotta justify WDW to the homeschool Gods and all... J/K! ((Texas leaves school to me & doesn’t bother me about it.))

At first I was kinda concerned Chandler wouldn’t see much because of his limitation in the chair. But the rest of our group really were great and made sure to include both kids.

There’s bugs in there!

DSCN0903.jpg

Brian was concerned our ladybugs were dead from the cold storage. They came around, tho...

DSCN0904.jpg

Oooh...then my favorite part of the tour came. Mmmm...we get cucumber samples! I looooove ‘em!

DSCN0911.jpg

Maters! I could eat my weight in these babies. Just gimme a shaker of Zatarrain’s and it’s ON, baby!

DSCN0913.jpg

Then the boys got to set their bugs free.

DSCN0916.jpg

I’m jealous. The pumpkins get hammocks. I would totally hang out in a hammock here. The nap would be top-notch.

DSCN0923.jpg

If I didn’t think we’d get in trouble I woulda dared Tracey to go grab a pepper and eat it. LOL! Just kidding. Those peppers will hurt you!

DSCN0924.jpg

Well, it wasn’t just another Mickey...

Next we moved along on our journey to Mars... hahaha!!! Just kidding. It was the fishy critters. This is where our Outback gets what they try to pass off as lobster tails. They can’t fool us.

DSCN0925.jpg

Obviously it was feeding day for these guys. They all came over to see if a tasty morsel fell in for their snacking pleasure.

DSCN0927.jpg

All joking aside, the guide said this is where feeding happens for these guys so it had to be feeding day. Don’t they look hungry?

DSCN0926.jpg

Here’s a Mickey!

DSCN0929.jpg

And it’s the ever-humorous splashing tilapia. Yep. Toss in the food and watch the hilarity unfold.

DSCN0930.jpg

We visited the rest of the veggies & fruit and held hands and sang the song and all that jazz. LOL!

DSCN0933.jpg

DSCN0934.jpg

DSCN0936.jpg

And our guide concluded with taking our pic for us. Very nice.

IMG_3135.jpg

Gotta send a great big shout-out to the guys in our tour group that fly with the the Coast Guard up in Kodiak, Alaska who spent time talking to our boys about the Civil Air Patrol. Very cool guys. We appreciate you!

So part of our strategy for the evening included a gooood nap. We piled into the car at 1:30. We were back out of the car at 1:38. Yep. Load, travel, unload, and parking at the resort took a whopping 8 minutes. I think driving will be part of our WDW planning as often as possible. You just can’t beat it.

We had a quicky lunch at the Floatworks. Tracey & I had the cheesesteak sandwich. It was almost but not quite as good as his cheesesteaks. Dessert was ice cream. More yum!

We napped from about 2:30 to 4. We were ready for the party & on our way at 4:40. Because we parked at the TTC it was a whopping 5:00 before we were in the park getting our wristbands. Again, loooooove having my car to travel around!

Because I didn’t have much plan-time for this trip we didn’t get every ADR we wanted. That ended up being a good thing because we tried stuff we hadn’t had before. That said, dinner was a first for us here:

DSCN0937.jpg

DSCN0938.jpg

I ordered the dinner salad w/the grilled chicken which was wonderful. Tracey ordered the off-menu meatloaf special. Chandler had a burger. Brian wasn’t exactly feeling like Mr. Cooperation so he opted to share a little with me & eat my dessert.

While we waited for our food the view of the castle w/the sun going down was a subdued kind of magical...

DSCN0939.jpg

The food took a while coming out. We were curious as to why it took so long. I guess they don’t staff this restaurant really heavy. Our poor waitress was running 90-to-nothing servicing at least half the tables in the place. When it arrived it was worth the wait. My salad:

DSCN0940.jpg

And Tracey’s meatloaf w/taters and corn:

DSCN0941.jpg

No pics of Chandler’s cheeseburger. What he does to those is just gross so I didn’t take a pic. LOL!

We took our time eating and enjoying dessert. We were practically the last family in the place. We got to talking with our waitress about kids, the company, how she liked working there, etc. We ended up with her pulling up a chair and just visiting which was fabulous. We totally enjoyed her company. Sweet, sweet lady. Love her. Will definitely go back again.

After dinner the sun was going on down and it was time to get busy. We strolled over to Tomorrowland. We noticed the set-up in the park right by the exterior of SGE where CMs were literally scanning credit cards and selling tickets to tonight’s event right there. Amazing. We watched a couple who were asking about what the party was about because they didn’t know and they whipped a card out on the spot. Wow. Just wow. We decided we’d done Buzz, the Laugh Floor, Space Mountain, and the Peoplemover previously so Carousel of Progress would be in order. The park was just about to close to day guests and we knew CoP would, too. We ran for it and squeezed in at the last minute. WooHooo!!! Love CoP! We sang along and totally enjoyed it. Again, because of the wheelchair we were in seats we wouldn’t normally choose. This time we were in the front row. It was a different perspective which really was refreshing.

After CoP we decided to move on towards Toon Town. I wanted pics of Mickey & Minnie’s with the Christmas decorations at night. I explained to the kids along the way that they should appreciate the significance of what they had the chance to see. Toontown is set to be dismantled. This is most likely the last holiday season these decorations would be out.

First up was Minnie’s house. I would so love to hang these giganto lights on my house!

DSCN0943.jpg

Chandler took this for me.

Nice model of the Miss Daisy.

Next up was, of course, Mickey’s house.

DSCN0955.jpg

How cool would it be to create a bedroom that looks just like this?!

The stocking were hung by the chimney with care....

DSCN0957.jpg

...and the tree is all set, too.

DSCN0960.jpg

Um, my kitchen does sorta resemble Mickey’s...I hate cleaning!

DSCN0958.jpg

I wish we had a ping-pong table. Ooooh it’d be such fun to play here, tho!

DSCN0959.jpg

This spring we need to get Mickey to give us some pointers with the tomatoes. We had no luck with them last year!

DSCN0961.jpg

And Mickey’s garage is waaaaay better organized than ours...

When we exited Mickey’s house we caught a little pixie dust sprinkler at work. You know those neat little water “paintings” you see in the parks? They don’t get there by magic. LOL! It was interesting to watch this gentleman work. He was quiet, moved along as if nobody was around, and rarely looked up. I caught his eye very intentionally and smiled my thanks to him. I wouldn’t say he smiled back but I could see a distinct acknowledgement in his slight upturn on one side of his mouth and gentle, subdued nod as his moved on. It was strange in a way the way he worked. It was like we weren’t supposed to see him...only the faces that appeared on the ground in front of us. Like I said, he rarely looked up at anyone. Here’s the pics we got which aren’t very good but it captures the moment in that we don’t really see the man who creates these little vignettes.

DSCN0965.jpg

IMG_3153.jpg

IMG_3154.jpg

Next the boys wanted to ride Goofy’s Barnstormers. Really, y’all? The Barnstormers? It wasn’t just my offspring either. Tracey was like a little kid going on and on about it. Sooooo, onto the Barnstormers we go.

DSCN0967.jpg

With the massive crowds lined up to ride most riders were invited to stay for multiple rides. We had a total of 3 rounds. The first ride I spotted the cool Daisy Duck on the front of Miss Daisy and decided I’d get a pic the next go around. The second ride I did my best but my batteries were dying so I only got this little gem w/the delayed reaction of the camera.

DSCN0968.jpg

The 3rd ride Tracey took over and was determined to get a shot. I hurried to change the batteries. He got this.

DSCN0969.jpg

I gave up. When we exited I finally got the picture. Here it is. Daisy!

DSCN0970.jpg

Tracey and I giggled & giggled over how much we enjoyed Goofy’s Barnstormers. We both said at least half a dozen times while we were on the ride, “Oh yeah. This is myyyy kind of coaster.” What has happened to us?! A month after we got married we went to Six Flags Over Georgia in seek of mega-thrills. We ate that stuff up! Every ride that left us pumped with our hearts pounding we got off all jacked on adrenaline running for the ride entrance hand-in-hand ready to do it all again. Now here we are 17 years later still hand-in-hand but on a kiddie-coaster relishing the smooth, mini-thrills enjoying how we AREN’T having our stomachs racked around inside our bodies, giggling like little kids shouting, “Yeah!” when the CM’s ask if we want to go again. It’s official. We’ve arrived at ‘old’. LOL! Oh well. It’s been a kick-a$$ ride gettin’ here and we did it together.

We strolled back towards Fantasyland. We rode Pooh and questioned the CMs about when the queue scrims would be coming down. Tomorrow. Ugh! I wanted to see it so bad!

We practically walked on to Peter Pan’s Flight. More waves and calls out to Nana. Hiiiii Nanaaaaaa!!! Next we walked on towards Liberty Square stopping in at Columbia Harbor House for some of this:

DSCN0971.jpg

Me & Tracey were in hog heaven right about now. As if the cookies weren’t sweet enough...had to get me some more sugar from my Sweetness! Chandler gets all weirded out at the thought that his funky old parents get all romantical-n-stuff so we tease him whenever we can. LOL!

We hit up the Haunted Mansion next. The boys got on in front of us. Chandler is super-jumpy if you startle him. He’s already kinda weirded out with the dark and spookiness. We watched a really great spooky CM walk up next to their Doom Buggy & give them the cold stare which freaked ‘em out. We heard the squeals. Then just as their buggy was almost away from the belt she snuck up and bumped the back of their vehicle. As soon as she did I thought, “Oooh, that’ll go over like a ton of bricks.” It did. Chandler jumped when she did that and whacked his knee pretty hard. Poor guy. I don’t blame the CM. She did a great job in character. Chandler has got to stop with the over-reacting. More teenage fun.

So when we got off HM we had another little grumpy on our hands. He was all, “I’m ready to go, Mom. I wanna go lay down.” Well, we were having none of it. He was stuck with us. LOL! I gave him more ibuprofen and kept moving. The first parade was passing Liberty Square so we cut back into Fantasyland. I have no idea whose idea it was but we queued up for Dumbo. No, it’s not the Astro Orbiter at night but it was a flying elephant which sorta counts. This was our first time ever riding Dumbo. I know, I know. That’s like wrong of us to skip it all the time but our boys didn’t go when they were little enough to enjoy the significance of it so they have no emotional attachment.

Chandler rode with me. Tracey was getting mad at us trying to get pictures but we were both fixated on seeing over the construction walls. LOL!

IMG_3163.jpg

This was the extent of my pictures of Tracey & Brian on Dumbo. I’m such a butt sometimes!

DSCN0973.jpg

Oh! I forget who it was exactly who told me about the coin thing on the ears or something when you get on. It was either Jen or Tammy. Anywhoo, I forgot all about it when we got on tonight so we were that irritating family that had to figure out who had that little coin thing they handed us while we were in line. LOL!

When we got off Dumbo we noticed Lady Tremaine, Anastasia, & Drizella with no line at all. We ran over there to see them. Bummer there was no photopass person. Dangit. Tracey was our photographer. Dumbo cheered Chandler up a little but he hadn’t forgotten why he was aggravated & ready to go back to the resort. I swear I coulda kissed these girls for what they did. I walked forward pushing Chandler and both girls immediately went bonkers over him. Anastasia immediately shrieked, “Your Highness!!!”, and was bowing. Then Drizella followed suit but Anastasia thought she was trying to steal Chandler’s favors so a little cat-fight over him ensued. Lady Tremaine did what she could to get the girls under control. She didn’t buy Chandler’s royal lineage so easily. She asked what happened to his knee. Both boys launched into a very detailed story of how Cinderella was such a sore loser in poker and not at all very good with gambling (they might wanna keep an eye on her) so she got mad and kicked Chandler in the knee to which all ladies gasped and agreed they’d expect no less from THAT one. They all denied any relation to such. It was such a fun moment. Both boys just looooved meeting these characters.

IMG_3165.jpg

IMG_3171.jpg

Chandler was perked up but the cocoa had run it’s course on us old folks’ baby bladders. Brian wanted to ride the teacups really bad but nobody else was up for it. We let the kiddo spread his wings again and fly solo while Tracey & I made a quick pit stop. We walked back over to the teacups with Chandler in time to see Brian whipping his cup into a crazy-fast twirl. When he got off we did our shout-n-wave routine to get his attention. Yaaaay for kids learning to fly solo...and mommas learning to let ‘em go a little... LOL!

We figured it was close enough to the fireworks time to scope it out to see how much of a zoo the hub was going to be. It really wasn’t so bad. They also had a roped-off area for handicap folks which was nice. We situated Chandler right there in that area in the center of the hub in a way that nobody could walk up & obstruct his view. By the time the fireworks started there was only 1 other family in the roped-off viewing area. Strange but nice. We backed Chandler up as the first shots went off so he could see even better and we all sat down or crouched down next to him so we’d be ‘together’ for the rest of the show. Worked well. We really enjoyed it a lot.

At the conclusion of the fireworks Chandler was pretty chilly sitting there. The rest of us were a bit warmer because we were moving around. We crossed over to Adventureland to find a blanket for the kid’s legs. While there why not hit up some more Pirates funage??? Tracey had seen this CM in the Pirates area a few days before and pointed him out. Tonight he was front & center. Tracey was sooooo impressed with how tall this guy is and asked if he’d mind if he got a pic to show his next-youngest brother who’s a huuuuge basketball junkie and even played for Oglethorpe 10 years ago. As it ended up, Tracey struck up a nice conversation with the fella so the pics are now a reminder of that, too. Keep in mind, Tracey is 6’2” tall. LOL!

DSCN0974.jpg

DSCN0975.jpg

After Pirates we decided to ease back around towards Frontierland to see what the parade route was looking like for the 2nd run. We stopped into the open shop there in Frontierland to pick up a couple event pins. We aren’t avid pin traders or collectors. We’ve wanted a little something that was event specific each time we went to a special event so the pins fit that bill for us. They always have. Our final selection for parade viewing was right near where the little cross-over is from Frontierland to the little area of Adventureland that opens to the magic carpets and the Tiki Room.

We don’t see most of the Disney parades because we usually opt for a nap at the time of day they run. We absolutely loved Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas parade, tho. It rocked! I squealed and hopped up & down, I’d call to the characters and wave my little heart out. Then a really pretty twirly dress would come along and I’d start hopping around carrying on to Tracey, “ooooooohhhh.....OMG!....Oh you gotta get picture of thaaaaaatttt....” or “.....OMGOMGOMG!!!! Lookit her twirly dreeeeesss!!!!! OMG! I want one of thoooooose!!!!” I kid you not, I was a little girl all over again. When Santa made it on the scene I was practically in tears! I think if I’d been able to get close enough to sit on his lap instead of my Barbie or Cabbage Patch wishes when I was little I would’ve wished wishes for my family like I do every chance I get. Don’t let Brian point out the brightest star to me. We hold hands and I get weepy and then a whole lot of wishing for happy family goo begins... LOL!

Here’s the pics:

The toy soldiers were the best. Oh wowzers were they just incredible. I had always wanted to see these guys marching and I finally got to!

IMG_3236.jpg

IMG_3237.jpg

Guess what it means when these come by???

IMG_3239.jpg

It means the big man himself has arrived! Santaaaa!!!!

IMG_3242.jpg

After Santa passed we waited a few minutes to collect ourselves. I turned to Brian and asked him what he wanted Santa to bring him for Christmas. He said, “A happy morning with you guys”. Yeah, I brag. No, I'm not embellishing this time. I got me some awesome boys. **sniffle sniffle**

Okay. So enough of the mushy-gushy goop.

I can’t forget to tell y’all! During the entire parade there was this most lovable of the Country Bears right behind us near that cross-thru area totally enjoying the parade with us. I wish I knew his name! He was jamming, dancing, getting down. He’d wave like mad at the characters as they went by. He was just so much fun to share the experience with!

IMG_3213.jpg

After the parade we crossed over to Adventureland. We hit up another treat spot in that eatery right there between the bridge to the hub and where the Dole Whip place is on the corner. I forget the name of it. I don’t recall ever being in there before which was odd. I believe this is the place folks have suggested would be a good place to do a pirate character meal to play towards boys as an alternative to the princess breakfast for the girls in the castle. After seeing the space I have to say I totally agree. I think Disney is really missing a great opportunity here!

With our last treats in hand we started making our way towards the hub and the exits. No, the party wasn’t over but the guys were pretty pooped by now. It’s not worth fighting too long. As we crossed into the hub we realized we had nooooo Photopass pics for the night. We stopped for 2 on the way out. Photopass pics aren’t so great anymore but the night ones take the lack-luster to a whole new low. Here’s what we got.

Photo0069FourBySix.jpg

Photo0076FourBySix.jpg

We paused on Main Street to enjoy the falling snow and take in such a special sight. I so love being on Main Street at night. Someday I aspire to slow down and take it in the way Tom & Sarah do. I believe I’d have to lay down in the middle of Main Street and have a good cry at the overwhelming beauty of it.

As we walked towards the tunnels that pass below the railroad I felt an overwhelming need to look back. Tracey had my hand and he was slightly ahead of me so I had hoped he wouldn’t notice me doing it because he knows why I do it & I don’t like to bring him down. I looked back to drink it all in one last time. He caught me and pulled me close just as my eyes welled up. It just doesn’t get much better than these little moments with our little family. I wish they could last forever.

We caught the express monorail back to the TTC. We were in the car on our way back to the resort at 11:40. As everyone was settling back into their beds we made a little game plan for tomorrow.

In retrospect, we’re all really glad we decided to give MVMCP another shot. We went on a Thursday night back in the first week of December in ’07 which ended up being a sold out night. The experience of it was less than stellar. We were pretty disappointed, actually, and didn’t see this being a hard ticket event we’d pay the premium for again. When planning this trip we discussed whether or not to try it again at length. It’s a lot of money even with the AP discount. Originally we thought going on a Tuesday night vs. Thursday would be the thing to do but then I did some reading on another fan forum & noticed a loooot more people planned to go the Tuesday we were thinking about vs. the Thursday a couple nights later. At the last minute we switched gears & bought tickets for the Thursday. Boy are we ever glad we decided to give the Christmas party another shot. It ended up being a completely awesome experience for us.

WDW Day 9 - November 19th: Ice cream? For dinner? Really?!

WDW Day 9 - November 19th: Ice cream? For dinner? Really?!

I had my alarm set for 8 a.m. I didn’t want to sleep away the day. I can do all the sleeping I want at home for free. I rolled out of bed at 8:10. About an hour late we were all in the car on our way.

We could’ve drove straight to the Wilderness Lodge for our brunch ADR but Tracey wanted to stop in to give Riley a quick walk. When we pulled up we noticed a LOT more vehicles out front so we decided thing would go a lot faster if the boys and I stayed in the car and let Tracey run in to walk our little sweetie. Good thing, too. Tracey said there was a ton of folks in the lobby lined up. There were 3 check-ins in front of him that he had to wait on just so he could show his ID and be okayed to go back to see Riley. He walked her quickly out on the dog walk trail then took her back. When he got back to the car he said he noticed she looked like she was loosing weight. She just won’t eat when she’s away from her people.

We continued on to the Wilderness Lodge to our brunch ADR at Whispering Canyon. This is sooooo one of our favorite restaurants. We valeted the car (we have TiW so it doesn’t cost us anything besides a little tip). Chandler didn’t want to be saddled by his wheelchair so he asked to walk in the best he could. Poor guy did a slow hobble at best.

When we walked into the lodge we were totally excited to see the Christmas decorations up. Yaaaay! I checked us in and Tracey found a spot for the kiddo to have a seat while we waited. We spotted a photopass op in front of the Christmas tree. Chandler hobbled over so we could take advantage then hobbled back to his perch. While we continued to marvel at the killer decorations I noticed a fellow still doing some wiring up of the lights on some of the swags above. We looked around and noticed more and more workers still present. Neat! All that stuff was juuuust going up! Tracey meandered over closer to the tree to take some pictures...

IMG_3260.jpg

...when all of a sudden a worker came sliding right out from under the tree in front of him! Surprised the dickens out of Tracey! They were still working in there, too! LOL!

We took a moment to do the photopass picture by the tree. The photographer posing us wasn't happy when Tracey insisted Chandler sit in the chair instead of him.

Photo0078FourBySix.jpg

Then our buzzer went off and it started talking to us in the same hillbilly voice as the spiel at BTMRR which was so totally cool! I giggled like a kid the whole way back to the podium. LOL!

We had a fantastic breakfast. The food was so good, again! The 3 guys had the skillet & I had the cinnamon french toast. MMmmmmm....

DSCN0983.jpg

Our waiter wasn’t as flamboyant as others in ‘the act’ so we were caught off-guard when he snuck in this little gem. He asked Chandler if he wanted a refill on his chocolate milk. Chandler responded with, “Yes, please. Well....maybe just a little more.” For those who might remember, Chandler has made himself sick with multiple glasses of chocolate milk at Disney before. (**see Jan. ’09 report**) When our waiter returned he brought Chandler exactly what he asked for: a little chocolate milk. See? He even got a little straw to go with it!

DSCN0984.jpg

DSCN0985.jpg

After brunch I ran into the mercantile there at the lodge to grab some more Advil for the kid just in case we had a need throughout the day. It was still hit or miss on the pain. Tracey had walked on out with the guys to fetch the car.

Our next stop was ....

DSCN0986.jpg

We didn’t do any photopass pics on the way in or out last time we were at the park this trip so this was in order.

Photo0084FourBySix.jpg

We still had some unfinished business with a show or two there. We made it right into the Festival of the Lion King show with plenty of time to spare. With the wheelchair we were sat in the 2nd row of the giraffe section. It was a great perspective with all the action right there in front of us. Here’s a pic Chandler took of me while we waited for the show to start:

IMG_3277.jpg

I swear, we made eye contact with a bunch of the talent all thru the show. Very cool! I loved it, sang along, etc. The tumble monkeys are forever my favorite. As I get older I have a new appreciation for all the flying around they do. I wish I was still in good enough shape to do that sort of thing. LOL!

Next we walked back towards Expedition Everest. It was a pretty warm day so a soft-serve ice cream was a necessity along the way. We made it over to EE and rode with a 10 minute wait. Fun! Brian, of course, wanted to ride it again via single rider. And again, us old and/or decrippled folks (<--that’s another of Chandler’s original terms...like when Mom & Dad have a “discussment”) sat it out. Here’s Chandler waiting to snap a pic of Brian:

DSCN0988.jpg

Not sure what he was taking a pic of. I don’t see anything that corresponds in his pics. Here’s a few I took, tho.

DSCN0989.jpg

DSCN0990.jpg

Next up was more show-time funage. We went to see Nemo & friends do their thing.

I’m not 100% sure and I could totally be wrong but I suspect this pic was one Chandler took while we waited for Nemo. Or I could have no clue what I’m talking about but this is as good a place as any to plug it in.

IMG_3261.jpg

We were up at the top of the theater in the wheelchair section which was fine. Man, it was a completely full house by the time the show started. Here’s what it looked like when we first got seated.

DSCN0991.jpg

DSCN0992.jpg

It amazed me how people showed up with 5 minutes until the show was to start then seemed angry they had to settle for the nosebleed section or seats on the skirts of the theater. What do they expect? Crazy!

After yet another inspired performance of Nemo’s little adventure we decided we were pretty much finished with what we wanted to see at AK. The overall crowd levels were in a steady rise which we aren’t all that keen on. Brian wanted a green cross-body bag he’d spotted back at the EE shop. He already has every AK bag that was ever made...in khaki. Green is his favorite color so it was a necessity to have that one, too. The CM who checked us out at the EE shop didn’t think the AP discount applied to seasonal passholders. I let him take an extra moment to discover that it did so Brian could take advantage of the discount. LOL!

While Brian & I had run back for the bag Tracey had taken Chandler on out to the car. When we made it out they were pulling forward looking for us. Great timing.

I want to pause here to mention, again, how freakin’ awesome even the parking lot CMs were in helping us out. When we’d pull in Tracey always asked if we could park out closer to the tram lanes because of Chandler & the wheelchair. They’d always send us up to the front set of rows to parking that would fit our needs better. We didn’t have a handicap placard or anything. We didn’t expect that sort of thing. It was such a help to us and really meant a lot.

Tracey ran me over to Zawadi Marketplace at AKL to see if they by chance had an resort ornaments being that holiday decorations were mostly out in full force. My mother-in-law and we really, really wanted a resort specific ornament for the lodge. No such luck. But I’m glad I looked anyway.

We returned to our resort at 4 and took a short nap until 5 or so. We didn’t have any real plans so when we headed back out it was with no real direction. Epcot was mostly out, tho, because we had never eeeeever had a good night time EMH experience there. So what did we do? We headed in that general direction. It wasn’t like we actually intended on hanging around or anything....

We drove over to the Beach Club and valeted the car. We thought the decorations would be fun. And they were!

My favorite was Chip & Dale’s house.

Snow’s joint was interesting.

The carousel and all it’s cool detail was pretty impressive, too.

Then whadya know? We ended up meandering by Beaches & Creams to see how busy it was. We discussed with the CM at the podium what our seating requirements would be with Chandler and all. He was super sweet about everything. We were handed a buzzer and prepared to wait the usual 20+ minutes we’ve always waited before. We didn’t even get 2 steps away when the thing went off. That was fast! Must be meant to be! We went in & sat in the first booth. Tracey took Chandler’s chair back outside. We thought briefly about what we wanted to eat. We weren’t terribly hungry and really wanted ice cream. Normally the mom in me would say we need to get a burger or two and split it so we are technically fulfilling the dinner requirement before dessert. But, ya know, it’s vacation. What the heck? Ice cream for dinner! Brian ordered a couple scoops of mint chocolate chip (his favorite). Chandler ordered a couple scoops of chocolate or something but they messed up & brought him mint chocolate chip also. I think he ate a little of it but not much.

DSCN1002.jpg

Tracey ordered an orange dreamsicle float which he thoroughly enjoyed.

DSCN1001.jpg

Then I ordered the most heavenly of ice cream concoctions in the whole wide world. Yes. Get out a napkin for the drool, y’all. I ordered a No Way Jose w/all chocolate scoops, extra heavy on the fudge & peanut butter.

DSCN1000.jpg

Talk about absolute BLISS!!!!

IMG_3288.jpg

I dove in with my spoon a-blazin’. Ugh! So freakin’ heavenly. Mmmmm.... I tried my best. I really did. I just couldn’t finish it all. Here’s the damage:

DSCN1003.jpg

Brian had been itchin’ and itchin’ to go to the shop in Japan in World Showcase. He’s a crazy Yugi-Oh! fan with plastic tubs full of those crazy little cards in his bedroom. I find them all over my house all the time and constantly carry on at him to pick the things up. Sometimes I find bits of them in my washer or my drier. Sometimes BOTH! They make it everywhere: the garage, my room, the kitchen, the dining table, in his bed, even in the bathroom sometimes. It’s insane! Not wanting to disappoint our kiddo and needing to walk off some of the pain we had inflicted upon ourselves with our ice cream dinner we figured we’d stroll on over thru the International Gateway.

Boy oh boy was Epcot packed! Not that it was a surprise in the very least. On our way towards Japan my pea-brain struck up on something that was on my list of to-dos. I’d only ever seen & read about this little architectural wonder tucked away safely in Morocco and I wanted to find it. We took a little detour to have a look. If you know what you’re looking for (ya know, ‘cause I’m an old well-seasoned chick and all) it’s not hard to find. It’s right there in plain sight for all the world to see. I won’t say another word. I’ll just let you enjoy my moment of continued bliss. I blame this on the ice cream. Yes, the ice cream made me do it!

DSCN1004.jpg

I giggled my little self silly as we moved on towards Japan. Chandler just shook his head and gave me looks of disbelief. I love it! Eventually we made it to our destination. The heavens opened up and Brian found the object of his desire...

DSCN1005.jpg

As with the rest of Epcot, the shop was pretty packed. I don’t know why but we decided to continue on around. We ended up riding Maelstrom with a 10 minute wait. While in Norway we went ahead & grabbed the Tiana dress we were supposed to get for my niece, Clara, in Canada. We got her the tiara to match. ((I also got her the coordinating scepter from Target last week.))

By now World Showcase was nuts. We weren’t so into it so we made our way back out the International Gateway back to the Beach Club to fetch our car from the valet. I love Tables in Wonderland!

We got back to the resort at about 8:15. I started the laundry again since we’d be hanging out at the resort. Tracey and I meandered into Sassagoula Floatworks to see what was cookin’. Tracey ordered a platter of ribs to share with me. We looked at the sides closely. They had some sort of red soupy looking stuff with bits of green floating in it. He asked the girl behind the counter what that was. She said it was greens. I looked again. So did Tracey. We looked at each other totally befuddled by what she just said and I asked again, “I’m sorry. Did you say that (pointing to the red soupy stuff) was greens? Like collard greens?” About that time a white-jacket chef-looking fellow was passing behind her and overheard my question. The girl replied to me, “Yes. Those are greens.” Without missing a beat and directing my next question at both the girl and the white-jacket fellow I asked, “What the h3ll did you do to them?! They’re red.” The white-jacket fellow smiled and said, “Red is because we seasoned them with paprika.” I smiled politely. There was no way we were eating red greens. That’s just WRONG! Seriously. I’ve lived in & around the south my whole life. I have many deep-south relatives who take that good ol’ country comfort food to a whole new level. I have never in my life seen a red green much less tasted one. Paprika??? Who the heck seasons greens with paprika??? Eeewwww!!!! All ya need is a couple good chunks of salt pork and big old boilin’ pot to cook the fresh greens down in. Add ya some pepper or something if ya must but don’t change the color of the dish. My goodness. We had some mashed potatoes and corn with our ribs. Red greens. is up with THAT?! LOL!

After we ate we figured we’d go over to the shop to see if they had a box we could have to pack up souvenirs in just in case we ended up needing to ship stuff home again. We weren’t real sure everything would fit back into the car & still leave room for me, the kids, and the dog. While in the shop we got to chit-chatting with the girl behind the counter, Caroline, because her badge said she was from Louisiana. We mentioned we had lived in the New Orleans area and she said she did, too, but her family had moved to Baton Rouge after the storm. Those who are from that part of the world know that’s what a whole lot of folks did after Hurricane Katrina. So we started talkin’ and comparing notes of where all we’d lived. The hubby mentioned how right before we moved from Louisiana we had been commuting together 100 miles each way to/from work from near the Mississippi state line near Hattiesburg all the way down by the New Orleans airport where we worked for Wink Engineering. I thought that poor girl was gonna fall out right there in front of us. She got so excited. She asked, “You worked for Wink Engineering?!” Yep. Tears welled up in her big sweet eyes as she told us her last name was Wink and we had worked for her family’s business. I ran over and hugged her neck. It was like finding long-lost family. That’s what it was like to work for their company and it was a pretty big company. They had hundreds of employees in offices in Biloxi, Mississippi, St. Rose (where we worked) & Baton Rouge, Louisiana. They were a big family-held company. It was only a few short years after we left that the engineering fell into the same rut the rest of the country did and all engineering took a huge nose-dive. Her family was able to sell off the company before it totally tanked. She told us all about how the family was (we knew her dad, had met her uncles, & grandparents). It was sooooo freakin’ cool! And such a small world! We talked and talked and I was really afraid she’d get in trouble but she said it was okay. She told us how my old boss who’s practically part of their family was. Oh how I miss my old boss man, Big Daddy. Big Daddy was the biggest teddy bear ya evah did see. Others were intimidated by him because he was just a big man in size and stature. He had the personality and carried himself like a bull in a china shop. He never struck me as scary at all. He was just a big growly teddy bear to me. He treated me & my office mate who worked for him like we were pure angels. We worked our butts off for him because he appreciated it and took care of us. He took us to lunch at least once a week. When raises were handed out he gave us all that he could and we were very well paid for what we did. It was just so great to be in the presence of old family/friends again. I miss that so much. Before we left (we had to switch the laundry) Caroline told us she was going to call her dad the next break she got because he was coming down to visit and would be here tomorrow. She said we should come back by and see if he was there the next night if we could because she just knew he’d love to say hello. I didn’t know about all that being as how we didn’t want to be a bother especially if her dad was coming down from Louisiana to visit her but we said we’d do our best to get by.

I finished the laundry, straightened the room, collected our boys from the arcade, and we were all in bed by midnight. What a day!
