Our 8th WDW Adventure..the trip I 'took out' one of my teenage sons..that's Rippin'!

Here it is, the next installment in our Disney adventures hot off the press for your reading pleasure. For those who’ve followed my last reports (and I, theirs) rest assured that this report will rival my first from January ’09. One of y’all must’ve ratted me out to Tinkerbell and had her read my last report because she tracked us down after we got to WDW and thoroughly flogged us with her wand o’pixie dust. We inhaled. Then we drank the water. The result was a rocket-shot straight to the top of the magic-meter....and our faith in wishing upon stars to make dreams come true has been restored in full and then some. So....please stand clear of the doors....por favor mantanganse alijado de las puertas....hold onto your hats and glasses, ‘cause this here’s the wildest ride in the wilderness!!!!

Preface: ((<---heh-heh...Who puts a preface in their TRs???))

I couldn’t do this report justice without a bit of back-story for the usual gang out there who tunes in. Everyone else can just skip forward. Let’s be honest, we all sorta vaguely follow each other’s lives indirectly by reading each others’ reports and conversing over various topics. We catch the milestones as they relate to our common thread of Disney addiction. I don’t know if others are as insane as we are but our lives tend to revolve around our Disney adventures in some way, shape, or form. The significance of our 8th family adventure can’t be appreciated unless you hear some of the highlights since we last left you at the conclusion of our 7th trip in January this year.

Did ya notice the underlying sadness in that last trip and report? We did. For months we blamed it on Mother Nature’s cruel-n-frigid prank with the weather. As 2010 progressed we came to understand where the dark cloud that seemed to follow us around really came from. It came from us. Yep. We did that. Going into that trip we knew that this year was going to be rough. Tracey had already been job searching for over a month. We knew his project was nearing completion and jobs in his line of work were evaporating daily. Even with the nest-egg we had worked so hard to prepare ourselves with, the uncertainty the future held was overwhelming. So we arrived at WDW on that trip not knowing if or when we’d be able to return. The thought that we were staring down what could potentially be our last adventure for quite some time was heartbreaking. For an example: the joy & excitement in arriving was overshadowed from the very start by the sad idea that we possibly wouldn’t have that again. You see? It was those kinds of things that had us dragging that dark rain cloud around with us everywhere we went. At the conclusion of our January 2010 trip we actually gave thought to the idea that maybe our pixie dusted glasses had been shattered and the magic that used to live within our hearts had all but died. I wasn’t sure we’d ever go back even if everything worked out in the months to come.

And then life has it’s way of flinging the perspective stick it at you. In our family’s case, it was the whole stinkin’ tree.

Our year of insanity included: Tracey unemployed for the first time in 17 years, me standing up to the bubba’s in the public school system here and taking back control of our children’s educations, Tracey set a new record for himself (gotta laugh) for the most number of employers within a single year at 4 while the boys & I plunged headlong into homeschool together which is HUGE and life-changing in itself. It’s been crazy with all the twists-n-turns and the ups-n-downs. There were numerous times we could literally see ourselves losing everything we’ve worked so hard for all these years. In spite of everything that life threw at us, we were still happier than we’d been in a long time. Like Mama Odie says to Tiana & Naveen, ya gotta know whatcha neeeeeed. With each other we have always had everything we needed. Everything else, all the stuff, even Walt Disney World...it’s all just the lagniappe. Without life kicking us square in the tookus so our big ol’ heads could pop out for 2 1/2 minutes we might have gone on overlooking the best stuff in life.

And so we arrived at our 8th Walt Disney World adventure raring to go with a renewed perspective and a whole lot to be thankful for: each other.

Enough of all that mushy-gushy stuff. Let’s get this show on the road!

Here’s the particulars and the plan:

WHO: Tracey/DH, Chandler/DS-14 yro, Brian/DS-13 yro, Riley Belle/DFG (Dear Furry Girl), and Kelly/me!

WHERE & WHEN: (it was a 3 week multi-part road trip)

<-- 11/8-11/11..........Gramma’s house in Pensacola, Florida
<-- 11/11-11/21........Walt Disney World: Port Orleans French Quarter and Best Friends Pet Resort
<-- 11/21-11/28........My folk’s house/Nana & Grandpaw’s house in Monroeville, Alabama

THE TWISTS:

The boys & I aren’t limited to the schedule that Tracey has with work. We drove and had fun along the way. Tracey flew in to meet us at WDW on arrival day and flew back to Houston on departure day. Thanksgiving morning he flew again & I picked him up. Even with all the gas in the car added to Tracey’s airfare(s) we still spent less than we would’ve for the 4 of us to fly round trip to Orlando. We haven’t had our own car at WDW with us since our 4th family trip. Having our car there was something I really, really wanted again and am sooooo glad we did. Besides, I love a good road trip and that time spent with just me & the boys was a blast!

YAY!!! I love a Sweetpea trip report!!! Looks like it was alot warmer then your last trip!!! So how did you like Disney in November? We were just there the 1st week on December when the cold front came in, so next trip I go on in the winter, I am thinking of going in Nov. I love the Christmas decorations, but I never want to me that COLD walking around the parks again!

Yep, add me to the list of people who were waiting for you to post your report!

I totally know how you feel with missing your pup during your trip...we have a dog and he's like our child (since we have no human children yet). I would've been upset too with the whole not eating thing...isn't it a horrible feeling knowing that they're upset?

And, EXCUSE ME...Disney Visa discount for the Dooneys? Whaaaa? :D

--Shannon

Yep. WoD. Buy your Dooney there & AP or Disney Visa discount can be used. It's a beautiful thing.

OH, and P.S....balloon designs:

White background
Black background

Super cute!

...but maybe you already know this, perhaps it came in at the end of your trip?? :D

:animwink:

Seems like a lot of folks have a new appreciation for our January misery. Lol! The week before Thanksgiving week was fabulous. Not too hot, not too cold, and decorations were out or in the process. Got me in the mood to decorate. Christmas party wasn't sold out & crowds were light. The only pieces of holiday stuff we missed was the Santas & Candlelight Processional at Epcot both of which I'd like to have seen but it was a small trade-off in the end.

Glad you're here with us for the fun!

My kids don't eat the peel of an apple either, lol, my daughter's apples end up looking the same way!

I had no idea the parrot was gone...boo!!!

Lol! The apple thing really tripped me out. I guess I'm to blame for spoiling them so bad. Lol!

Oh yeah, the parrot has been gone from the entrance for a few years at least. It only irked me because I have pics of me under the parrot when I was little & continued that with my boys when they were little. But now it's gone...

I'll try to get another chunk posted tonight. I have to get up in the morning to help the fellas with a slab they're pouring. I better not stay up as late as last night.

Hey! Maybe we'll look at some dates in November 2012. We really enjoyed it a lot!

Your pup's color is so light. Is she a special breed of schnauzer, or just some recessive gene that popped up?

Gotta love teenage boy drama which translates to affecting the whole family. Parenting is so much fun, but having a manual sure would be great.

I give kudos to the double stroller family with matching mickey shirts as well! Their gumption is awesome. I can so relate, but the rest of my family would be somewhere back by Casey's hot dogs, or maybe even the flagpole!

I'm on winter break now and this is so much fun to have time to read your report. Keep it coming :)

Nope. Riley's coat is platinum salt & pepper. She was much darker when she was a pup. We saw her mother when we went to pick our pup and she's the same color. Also, her coat is a super-coat. I've noticed her skirt is quite fluffy and poofy compared to other schnauzers I've seen. She's a toy size, full grown right at 10 lbs. Here's a quick puppy pic for ya:

100_0901.jpg

Teenage boys... Gosh. I know. A manual or maybe even an on/off switch would be great. LOL!

That stroller family totally cracked me up. I didn't notice them when we were there. When I was editing the pics I spotted them and died laughing. LOL!

Happy Winter Break to ya! Glad to have you here with us!

WDW Day 6 - November 16th: Jinglin’ in the Jungle at last!

WDW Day 6 - November 16th: Jinglin’ in the Jungle & gettin’ my world rocked by the Quattro Formagio

I guess one could safely call this another morning of sleeping in. I didn’t roll outta bed until 8:30. Yay for sleep! While the boys & I got the ready and the room picked up Tracey ran out to the nearest Walgreens to fetch a knee brace for Chandler. We’ve figured out that he really needs some decent stabilization, something more than just an Ace bandage. He chose well. He got the one that cost a little more but it had the metal hinge on either side so it would be the more stable than the other less-supportive models on the shelf.

Breakfast was at Sassagoula Floatworks again. By now we’ve got breakfast down to a science. The guys have figured out what the right thing for them to order is and I’ve got my Via-n-oatmeal prep routine down.

This morning’s destination would be Animal Kingdom! Brian’s favorite! On the way I couldn’t resist a couple shots of me & my super-cool little men.

Look out, ladies! This h-o-t young guy is on the market:

DSCN0658.jpg

And, uh, don’t let this innocent-looking fella fool y’all. Of my 2 boys Brian is the one I worry about with the girls. Recently I bought ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’. Brian’s reaction to Jessica coming out from behind the curtain was, “oohhhh...I could soooooo be a toon.....”. I think he drooled. LOL!

DSCN0659.jpg

Then of course there’s my heart-throb old man. **wink wink** He’s lookin’ all in-tell-er-jint here readin’ the morning news. Actually, he’s not had his iPhone very long so he’s still crackin’ out on his ability to read anything he wants almost anywhere he goes. LOL!

DSCN0660.jpg

So we walked into the park at 10:20. I know, right? The day is half over already! We walked straight over to Kilimanjaro Safaris to get some FP’s. We didn’t really have a plan for killing time until our ride time. I thought about our little list of things to do that we haven’t done yet and we settled on a trip over to Rafiki’s Planet Watch. We figured at the very least we stood a good chance of meeting some cool characters. Right?

DSCN0662.jpg

Here’s the guys strollin’ up to catch the train:

DSCN0661.jpg

Then we got to hang out in the wheelchair/ECV corral. I wanted to moo or baaah but I didn’t. I saw this sign above us:

DSCN0667.jpg

Do these 2 count as my ‘correct luggage’?

DSCN0666.jpg

This wasn’t our train. It was on it’s way to safety check before going into service for the day.

I was starting to wonder if we’d need to use this to get over to Rafiki’s joint:

DSCN0668.jpg

But then the train came. It looked like supplies wouldn’t be an issue for this journey.

DSCN0670.jpg

We rolled Chandler into place & sat with him. Then I looked up and spotted this:

DSCN0671.jpg

I could tell this was the PERFECT train for me. Perfect. That coincides well with how I feel about cooking.

It was a bit of a bumpy journey which made my limited photography abilities totally mess up all but 1 picture. Bummer. Dontcha know the only one NOT blurry was of the hoofstock barn area.

DSCN0672.jpg

Then we arrived. We disembarked, let the herd move on so we didn’t slow down the masses, and strolled along. This wheelchair deal really did bring back memories of our stroller-pushing days. We took a moment to watch some critters doing their thing. One set of mini-primates appeared to need a private room for their activities so I won’t post any pics of that. Next door we saw these little cuties just chillin’:

DSCN0674.jpg

Oooooh, neat-o bandit-o to finally see this in person!

DSCN0675.jpg

We went inside to see what was shakin’. Chandler was quite jazzed to see these 2 characters...the Disney ones, not his brother & himself...

Poking-hontas (Traceys name for her...leave it to a man...) commented on how Chandler must be a brave warrior who was injured in a fierce battle...

DSCN0676.jpg

Rafiki rocked!

DSCN0678.jpg

We took photopass pics with Jiminy Cricket but guess what? They didn't show up on my photopass account. Dangit!

Smack-dab in the middle of the characters in the center of that room there was this really neat pond thing. It really caught my eye with all the animals in the bottom looking back up at me:

DSCN0677.jpg

...and the super-pretty lilies were just so serene...

We moved on around to the windows to see what was shakin’. First we saw hormonal Minnie.

DSCN0680.jpg

They also had this cool illustration of a vet tech.

DSCN0681.jpg

Then there were these really impressive giganto frogs who Tracey took one look at and said, “Mmmm...frog legs...”

DSCN0683.jpg

I watched these cutie-wutsie little turtles for a bit. That taller-lookin’ one was hung up on a rock or a piece of a stick or something. He flailed around up there the entire time I stood there watching him. His little buddy there came over to see what his problem was. I think maybe he was laughing at him.

DSCN0685.jpg

That pretty well concluded our visit at Rafiki’s hang-out. We liked it and were glad to see something we hadn’t seen before. We took our bumpy ride back to civilization. I liked this wall by the exit from the train:

DSCN0687.jpg

We were so impressed with that advertisement for the ‘Journey of a Lifetime’ we started to feel the itch. Soooooo, we rushed back to Harambe....they’re moving so fast ya better not blink....

DSCN0688.jpg

We made a beeline over to use theeeeese....

But then we had to use the wheelchair accessible truck which had a sorta long line of ECV contestants so it was the less-than-fast-FP-trip. Trivia question! What’s Kelly’s/SweetPee’s favoritest way to kill time in boring queue’s???? Here’s a hint: not everyone enjoys it quite like I do. Didya guess “take more pictures of everyone”?!?! You’re cooooooorrect-a-mundo!!!!!

DSCN0690.jpg

I actually like this little series of my Boo:

DSCN0691.jpg

DSCN0692.jpg

DSCN0693.jpg

We were the equivalent of 3 rows back from the driver once seated on the truck. We could tell right away he’d make for a fun guide on our 2-week excursion. In fact, with the exception of our Sunrise Safari in January, this went down as our best safari to date. I wish I’d snapped a pic of our guide. I really do. I think maybe he did some time guiding over on the Jungle Cruise. He was entertaining. Sooooo, we had some laughs as we waited somewhat patiently for our adventure to begin.

DSCN0695.jpg

Smile!!!!

DSCN0698.jpg

No, not you. This one!

DSCN0701.jpg

Look! It’s Little Geoffrey! Say “hi” to yer Pop for me! I didn’t grow up cuz if I did I wouldn’t still be a Toys-R-Us kid!

DSCN0703.jpg

Oh! Get the cameras ready! It’s a baby effalent butt and a momma effalent butt and a daddy effalent butt. It’s a whole family of effalent buhhonkusses!!!!

DSCN0707.jpg

It must’ve been Family Appreciation Day for the safari critters. This spotty little family was all hangin’ out together:

I understand the pain with the knees, at 20 years old, I have had surgery on both and now, 17 days before my trip my right knee is giving me big problems again. However nothing is going to stop me from going to Disney!!! Knee brace and pain killers here I come, any surgery can wait until I get back! lol

Love the TR, your dog is too cute! We spoil ours too much, it is going to kill me to leave her at home... can't wait till the next update!

Then Courage up there on the rock was rollin’ solo.

DSCN0709.jpg

I yelled “say cheese!” but, honest, I was just kidding. Courage didn’t really hafta get up AND show us some teeth for our pics. I figured the smartest thing to do when a lion was showing us his teeth was to shut-up and take a pic or two.

DSCN0710.jpg

Then the driver went crazy and was drivin’ all fast! We were bumpin’ all around and splashed thru some water. We heard some jibber-jabber on the radio and spotted some random abandoned camp props....but none of it made much sense so we were kinda glad to get back to Harambe earlier than planned. ((**cough**cough** ...crappy lack-o story nowadays in case any Disney Gods care to read this... **cough**cough**))

Wow. Maybe I need a cough drop.

So after our safari we took our time meandering back out and over towards Asia. More annoying pics of the cool stuff I see when I look up.

And for photographic proof that this trip *does* count as a field trip because it's educational...

Wow! That's waaaay young to have so much trouble with the knees. I bet you hear that a LOT. LOL! Don't hesitate to get a wheelchair or ECV if needed. I know people get all bent out of shape around here about them but if you need it you really should do it. We didn't find pushing Chandler around to be so bad. In fact, it was nice to lean as we walked sometimes just to switch things up a little.

Thanks for the compliments! I love writing TR's even if the hubby gets all irrate because I get so tuned into what I'm doing. And thanks for the sweet words about my pooch. I spoil her little butt rotten but I can't resist her undying cuteness like that. LOL!

Next update is on it's way....

We were drawn to the majestic spires of Everest like flies to.... nevermind. We were going to get a FP for the high-speed rail but the standby was only 5 minutes. Why bother? So we strolled on in....

DSCN0720.jpg

DSCN0721.jpg

...and I looked up some more. Are you amazed that I didn’t kill myself walking into random people or off a short pier?????

DSCN0719.jpg

DSCN0722.jpg

DSCN0724.jpg

We were able to roll Chandler right up to the corals for the train. Tracey helped him into his seat. They were careful to place him on the right side so his left knee (the hurt one) was closer to center. During the ride Tracey kept a hand on the leg to help the kiddo keep it from racking into anything. Worked great! Brian wanted a 2nd run but the rest of us old farts weren’t up to it so soon so I okay’d my newest teen to go on thru the single-rider line solo. I know it seems a bit odd to point out that Brian rode a ride by himself. Yeah, he’s 13 which is faaar from being a baby. I dunno. I guess the other moms here will get the significance of the moment. I don’t care how old he gets, Brian is *my* baby. He always will be. And it’s a note-worthy moment for a mom to see her baby spread his little wings all by his lonesome. **sniffle**sniffle** I need a tissue. When we walked out of the shop there at the end of EE Tracey noticed Brian wasn’t with us. He asked me where he was so I told him. Ya hafta understand that for all of Chandler’s keen sense of direction his little brother is completely lacking any whatsoever (like me). We sat close to the exit so we could catch Brian on his way out because we knew he’d come out so excited he’d shoot out of there without thinking where he was going and be lost. Good thing we did. He shot out the shop door with a big, silly grin looking off in the distance. The 3 of us jumped up screaming and waving our arms so he wouldn’t miss us. It worked. LOL!

Next up we thought it’d be nice to see the Nemo Musical. We started to jump into the queue but then gave some thought to how long the show is and how incredibly hungry we all were. Not much to debate. We need foooood!

Off we go towards Dinoland.

DSCN0725.jpg

Nice to have music for the journey. We cut thru this way...

DSCN0726.jpg

I have a thing for repurposed ordinary stuff. I wish I had the creativity to do stuff like that. Every time I see the license plate edging around the shrubby letters for ‘Dinorama’ here I stop, stare, and appreciate. I paused for a few painful minutes waiting for the people to move from in front of this. I was starving. Tracey (of course) was fussing...”Oh my Gaaaawd!!! We’re gonna starve to death and you’re taking another picture!” I’m enduring pure torture just to get a shot of the stinkin’ shrubby letters with the old license plate edging. Juuuuust, when my shot is in view and I’m looking at a perfectly uninterrupted scene I go for it....but then Brian meanders right into the middle of the shot. Oh well. I was too hungry to try again.

DSCN0727.jpg

We made our way over to the Restaurantosaurus on my big brother’s recommendation. His quote to me regarding this eatery was, “They have a kick-a$$ toppings bar.” Sounds like a winner. I was waaaaay too hungry to take food pics but I had the grilled veggie & provolone sandwich w/sweet-tater fries which was TDF. I suppose I could’ve thought that because I was *that* hungry. The meal totally was awesome, tho. Thank you, Jerry!!!! ((The decor & theming here is kitschy & fun. Another score with me.))

After we were sufficiently stuffed we couldn’t imagine leaving the area without a spin thru here...

DSCN0731.jpg

In we go...

DSCN0728.jpg

Ooohh...it’s a great big dino!

DSCN0729.jpg

What’s on the other side of a dino’s head??? A dino-butt!

DSCN0730.jpg

I wonder which end woulda been scarier??? Hhhmmmm...Deep Thoughts by SweetPee.....

Going down the elevator to roll the chair up to the unload side was a bit different from the regular queue/coral but, again, it was fantastic that things were so accessible for Chandler. Again, he sat with the leg towards the center next to his dad so they could hold the leg as steady as possible to keep any racking from going on. Worked pretty good.

We thought briefly about doing Primeval Whirl but Chandler wasn’t so sure he was up for it and Tracey seemed impatient to move on so we kept moving. Again, we thought about Nemo but we would’ve missed the Jingle Jungle Parade which we really did want to see. No-go for Nemo.

We did, however, have time for ‘Its Tough to be a Bug’. Everyone was game. Yay for agreeing on stuff!

DSCN0732.jpg

DSCN0733.jpg

DSCN0734.jpg

When we got down close to the entrance to the pre-show holding area where you get your bug eyes there was a pretty long line of people for the handicap entrance. Well, what can ya do? Brian entertained us while we waited....

DSCN0736.jpg

Eventually we all started squeezing into the handicap coral that lets people into those back handicap rows in the theater. We got our bug eyes and squeezed in tight so others could make it inside, too. No viewing of ITTBAB would be complete without a bug eyes pic:

DSCN0737.jpg

We were still waiting and Brian sprung his ‘sophisticated bug eyes’ pic on us:

DSCN0738.jpg

Then we went in. Being in those back rows was a different but interesting perspective. The seats aren’t sat in for every show so the bench was rather soaked when we sat down (ewww, even when you know the wet isn’t from someone peeing on the seat). Seeing the show from the back was cool in it’s own way. Watching the audience react to all the little gags was part of the show for us. Chandler & I thought we’d be a couple smarty-McSmarty’s and put our hands over what we *thought* were the water jets. Again, not having all the seats in front of us full had some disadvantages...like getting hosed by those water nozzles. Blech! Um, and can I say that when Hopper is totally blacked-out and in no way visible during the show it really makes the story a bit confusing. Perhaps a ‘B’ mode with Hopper on the screen vs. his AA would be a good alternative for when his AA isn’t feeling up to the show. No?

After the show we tried a little something that’s been on my list to do for a while but I always forget. When exiting, instead of following the masses up the path to the exit we took the first path to the left and found ourselves all alone with some pretty scenery. I didn’t take pics. I think I must’ve been pushing Chandler. Eventually we came out to the main walk that leads towards Harambe. The ropes were set up for the parade already. There was tons of front-row space. We settled for a little spot in the handicap viewing area and waited.

Eventually the parade came and we were so excited! I loved it! The families in the parade were all so happy which made us happy sharing their special moment with them. We waved and waved. There was one little boy, however, who seemed like he got rope-a-doped into the gig. I wanted to go tickle him to get his smiler workin’ again! Here's a few highlights:

My favorites by FAR were Minnie & Donald’s vehicles. Those were so stinkin’ awesome.

Ugh! And here’s King Louie. Louie is a bad boy. Did you see him on the naughty list??? He walked up to Chandler, pointed at his knee, then patted it. Normally a pat wouldn’t do any harm but those orang’s don’t know their strength. Louie’s pat really hurt so I broke out another dose of Aleve before we fell in with the herd following the end of the parade towards the walkway to the Oasis.
