...and to add. Downtown Disney/Disney Springs was not reported as a target (at least in the Fox article linked earlier), Just that he visited Downtown Disney in April. You can make the leap that he was scouting it out as much as he just wanted to try the Hangar bar. I'm sure he visited many places in Orlando. But saying Publix doesn't have the same ring as Disney.

Yeah, I agree. I have a feeling someone mentioned he visited DTD and with the word "Disney" in it everyone pee'd their pants and sent out a press release

I had never seen so many security folks the past week and a half than I had on all previous trips probably combined... and that's not counting the "civilian" ones
I went went thru metal detectors 6 times without a bag and my husband was pulled 8 times with a camera bag. They were basically pulling just about everyone, especially if you entered at off peak times.

Forgive me but I'm going to vent a little......

Well, this not the start i wanted to the week! Instead of Awaken Summer and SDL news, we have this and(saw this on twitter. DID NOT see it on the news) a bomb at Shanghai's airport.

Just terrible! IF this turns out to be really ISIS and lack of OUR FBI.......then Someone on our gov. I don't care on what side needs pst do somthing! ISIS or not, This got WAY TOO CLOSE to the Big 3! Big 5 if you count Legoland and BG!

Hopefully this week will end better with SDL and Awaken Summer, and not hearing every minute that WDW or the other Orlando parks are a target. Because that will NOT help WDW's number even if SDL is Fantastic.

Yes, I have to ask the questions. Did Disney know this information right after the attack on Pulse? And has Disney worked to suppress it?

I am not suggesting anything, just wondering aloud.

I hate it more. I hate it more than I can even say ... we live in a very sick world right now and we -- or the vast majority of us -- are not working to make it better.

I mentioned this last night during one of the many, lengthy conversations in my household yesterday. How many of these events does it take for things to change? At what point do we take a stand and demand that lip service and empty promises isn't enough? Is this event it? Or the next one? Or the one after that?

We can say, "if we don't do 'x' then they win." But the thing that people aren't realizing is that the fact that this conversation in this thread that is also taking place all across the country proves that they are winning. Until more than words to demand change happens, I'm afraid we'll be having this conversation way too soon.

Of course they are. That is how a news organization should go about a situation like this. They do realize what's at stake. You want to report the news, but you don't want to panic people and help destroy an economy. And you can bet that Disney is doing all it can to not have this brought out because its business is dependent on people not being afraid of visiting.

You have to report the news. It's just that simple.

I would imagine this is especially true if you are a direct media competitor AND a direct theme park (that wasn't targeted) competitor.

The Shanghai airport incident was covered by CNN Fox News and many other media outlets. It took a backseat to a major attack that happened on US soil. Disney didn't suppress anything.

Did Disney know what/ try to suppress what, exactly? That he visited Disney Springs? Had an ice cream and left? Or envisioned doing something horrible there which no one has proof of or the mind reading surveillance to prove?

Oh, sorry, you were referencing the Shanghai airport. Still....no.

First, if you watch CNBC regularly (on an almost weekly basis) drool over Bob Iger and Disney's performance, then you'd realize just how incestuous the business is.

Second, if WDW is harmed, UNI is harmed, the entire Florida economy is harmed. This is a we're all in this together situation.

Third, and people say I'm cynical?!?!

EDIT TO ADD: That really is an awful, horrible and ignorant statement. A terrorist attack at any Central FL theme park destroys everyone's business. Everyone's.

I am not talking about the small incident in Shanghai.

I am talking about did Disney know last night that the guy had targeted Disney Springs before deciding on Pulse. And I am wondering if (more like how much) energy and resources they're going to use to keep the information as controlled as possible.

The simultaneous installation of metal detectors at the Orlando parks still strikes me as something that was under-reported or under-investigated. What precipitated that? (I probably don't want to know.)

I'm sure all of us who have worked at WDW or visited for years and years realize that "property" is a target, and it's a frightening thing to even think about. But I don't know what they can do, short of turning the entire expanse of Disney property into a military base with controlled access (and, though that might be safer, that would never gel with the Disney image). But for awhile now, I've thought WDW really needs to consider serious safety measures. It should be the cost of doing business in the world we live in today.

Sorry if I missed it. Where is it said he was TARGETING Disney Springs. All I read said that he visited. Feels like you're pushing it with this if it hasn't been made known to be fact that he was planning an attack at Disney.

Call me ignorant, but I believe the metal detectors were installed around the time of the Paris and Brussels attacks. Not necessarily because of some WDW related intel. Guess we'll never know, but glad there's more security. They need to optimize it now and always evolve it.
