The Lost Jungles

Screen Shot 2018-07-05 at 6.06.25 PM.png

Replacing parts of Echo Lake and the Hollywood Studios parking lot, a new 23 acre highly-immersive land called The Lost Jungles, will open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2024 letting you live your favorite movies in 3 distinct sub areas based off of the movies Indiana Jones, Up, and Rio.

The first jungle is the “Indiana Jones Archeology Site” which features a gift shop titled Temple of the Forbidden Gifts as well as features a boat ride-roller coaster hybrid titled Indiana Jones and the Lost River which take you through a lost river and temple telling an original story with elements from the movies ending with the largest flume drop in a Disney Park.

The Indiana Jones jungle also includes a Camp Discovery, a version of the popular Shanghai Disneyland attraction high over the trees and the pathways of the Lost Jungle with a new Indiana Jones storyline as well as a table-service restaurant titled Temple of the Forbidden Eye, where you get to dine inside a temple with different rooms based off of the rooms from Disneyland’s popular attraction, Indiana Jones Adventure.

The second jungle is based off of the Pixar movie Up, which includes a gift shop selling Rio and Up merchandise called Wilderness Explorer’s Shack as well as a simulator attraction called Up, Up, & Away staring Karl, Russel and Doug on their quest through the jungles of South America to find their missing bird Kevin.

The final jungle is based off of the 20th Century Fox movie Rio, which includes a quick service restaurant called Jammin’ Jungle Steakhouse which serves authentic Brazilian Cuisine inside a jungle with daily cultural performances as well as a flat ride titled Blu’s Hanglider, which is a Zamperla WindstarZ flat ride through a jungle of animatronic animals at the verge of their forest getting destroyed.

BONUS: A new Marvel themed stunt show loosely based on the live show will be coming to Marvel Superhero Island.

A new land replacing much of Echo Lake, this land extends over towards the Chinese Theater to include Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway, to start with. The sliver of area with Hollywood and Vine and '50s Prime Time Cafe is retained for Echo Lake, while Star Tours is integrated with Grand Avenue. Dinosaur Gertie's is oddly retained (she is a cartoon character, after all), but Min and Bill's Dockside Diner is given a Donald Duck theme and renamed "Donald's Dockside Duck Diner". The Indiana Jones stunt show area is scrapped in favor of a fancy meet-n-greet with Mickey and Minnie in an elaborate Beverly Hills-looking house together, as well as a "Donald and Goofy's Car Wash", a dark ride through a crazy car wash made by Donald and Goofy that also harkens back to this old ride from Chessington World of Adventures called "Bubbleworks", where you just might get wet if you're not careful. These and many others are waiting for you at the new Toonby Hills at Disney's Hollywoodland.

Bonus: In keeping with the arrival of Nintendo characters, there is a new flight simulator themed to Star Fox, where you climb into your own Arwing and help Fox McCloud and his team save the galaxy from the threat of the evil Andross.

Hope there's still time, here it goes:

Old Hollywoodland
Located behind the Indina Jones Stunt Show is the heart of the idea that Hollywood Studios would be, a classic Hollywoodland; this land covers the grounds of Indiana Jones and all the way to Grand Avenue. The first ride is located inside of a smaller scale Carthay Circle Theater and is Superstar Limo, an upgraded version of the original, with real animatronics and up-to-date stars, along with fun cab cars that slightly spin you through the Hollywood Hills and through the city; the next attraction is Fantasia - A Ride Through Disney's Music Spectacular, another dark ride that takes the guests on a 6-minute journey through the 1940 movie, and replaces the space of Indiana Jones; the last attraction is a roller-coaster, called Goofy's Movie Mishap, which takes guests through a movie set with animatronics that are shooting a movie starring Goofy. Throughout the land there will be different stalls with shops, and a restaurant replacing Backlot Express called Cinema Cafeteria.

Bonus:
Back to the Future - The Show, will bring Back to the Future back, with a musical and Broadway style twist!

Metroville
latest

Coming soon to Disney's Hollywood Studios is Metroville, the home of the Incredibles. The Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular will be rethemed to The Incredibles Save the Day, a show where the Incredibles take on Clones of Syndrome and the Underminer created by Screenslaver. Star Wars: Path of the Jedi will be replaced by the Mode Fashion Show, A show where a hologram Edna Mode shows off the hottest in Super-fashion. Backlot Express will be demolished and replaced by Happy Platter, the iconic restaurant from Incredibles 2. And Star Tours will be demolished and replaced by An Incredible Adventure, a KUKA E-Ticket Dark ride following the Incredibles battling a strange new band of villains named "The Mysterious Trio".

Bonus: To begin the inevitable horde of Nintendo rides, Universal Studios Florida will receive Kirby: The Ride, a motion simulator where you fly through Dreamland and it's many sights.
A solid contribution off the bat. Based on the success of The Incredibles and the recent sequel, along with the inclusion of more Pixar in DHS with Toy Story and the upcoming Cars show/'experience' - Metroville would fit in nicely. While the harsh transition from Hollywood Boulevard to this large land may be a bit jarring at first, it has potential to be a great kid friendly area. The Incredibles show as well as the Fashion show would be hits among families, and while the 'Incredible Adventure' could have used a more interesting name, an Incredibles dark ride sounds like it has a lot of potential.

New New York

This new land will transport guests to the world of futurama. Star tours will be replaced by Planet Express Training, where guests play the role of new delivery people being trained in their new job by the characters, but things go crazy during the trip. Indiana Jones stunt show will replaced by Trip Down the Sewers, a new indoor rollercoaster that will blast guests through the sewers of New New York after accidentally falling down a chute.
Bonus: Universal will get a new simulator in whosville where guests ride with the grinch to deliver gifts to whos everywhere.
This one caught me off guard a little haha - Not sure Disney has the rights to Futurama and not sure how well it would blend into the park, but you did follow the guidelines and did what you're passionate about so - kudos!

Travel to a whole new world as Star Tours is re-themed to Aladdin and Jasmine taking you on an adventure above their world, with a bonus of some trips passing by real-world landmarks such as the Parthenon, Sphinx and Pyramids. The entrance of Star Tours is replaced with the Sultan's palace - you walk through until you get to Jasmine's room with its balcony and embark on your journey. Indy's stunt show is replaced with an interactive area: the the Cave of Wonders, where you decide to take the gold or continue your search for the lamp hidden each day - the guest who finds it receives, of course, Genie as a friend and three wishes. Backlot express is sacrificed and the non-attraction area becomes the market, with fruit and food stands. The market area has cast-members as pickpockets, but instead of taking, they place trinkets and messages into pockets, and Jafar and the Sultan's guards who are searching for those 'stolen' valuables.
Really like the thought on this one - Aladdin has such depth to it and with the upcoming live-action film it may spark a new life in the franchise. Like your idea for Star Tours, though with Soarin' that may be a bit redundant to go over the Pyramids again. The Cave of Wonders area might be my favorite. DHS with all the new attractions needs place to explore (imho) and this type of interactive walk-through area would be perfect. The market area also reminds me a lot of Galaxy's Edge so that would flow nicely and fits the theme of the prompt - nice job!

One question before I post my entry. Will Halloween Horror Nights be considered as a challenge?

Toon Outpost
g1067.jpg

Beyond Gertie and the Echo Lake is a new, heavily forested area, home to the Toon Outpost, a small but bustling airfield and community within a fantasy wood, actually owned by Scrooge McDuck and is themed around characters from Disney Saturday Afternoon. What makes the land unique is that it has a high level of wandering characters, including some toons who live and work at the outpost, along with a variety of "visitors" to allow for numerous photo ops. Backlot Express is turned into an indoor market area, where the shops and stands are owned by several notable characters.

Star Tours is reimagined as Plane Crazy Tours, housed with the plane hangar (with half a plane poking out of the roof), transforming the ride into a high-flying flight simulation - but with the choice of two alternate adventures, where guests can pick either Launchpad McQuack or Baloo (from TaleSpin) as their pilot, with unpredictable results.

The Indiana Jones Stunt Show is gone, replaced with the enormous woodland home of the Gummi Glenn Quick Cars, based around the Adventures of the Gummi Bears, an indoor coaster similar in size and tone to the Seven Dwarf Mine Train, and attached to the ride is a small counter service called Grammi Gummi's Berry Juice Bar.

(I think Universal has enough soddin' simulators!)

Bonus - The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Stuntshow Spectacular - Join the iconic Power Rangers as they battle Rita Repulsa, Lord Zedd, and their army of monsters and protect Angel Grove, complete with impressive hand-to-hand combat, and appearance from the Zords to form the almighty Megazord!
I like the thought of adding more kid friendly attractions to the park, and the overall tone of going with the Toons. My fear is though one of the anchor areas in Gummi Glen would be a bit outdated from the early 90s. Plane Crazy would go nicely along with Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway, and I think you were on a good track here. But I'd go more current with my properties, and if you're going for Toon Outpost, you could retheme Hollywood/Vine along with Echo Lake to be an extension of MMRR in a sense, and be propped up with more contemporary Disney cartoons.

20th Mid-Century Muppets

The mid-20th century theming around Echo Lake from the Sci-Fi Dine-In Restaurant to the 50’s Prime Time Café will be completed with the installation of an expanded Muppets Land called Twentieth Mid-Century Muppets in which all the building facades now nicely fit in with the 50’s L.A. theme of the area.

First, Star Tours will be rethemed to Pigs In Space featuring the animatronics of Miss Piggy and the bridge crew of the Swinetrek kicking out C-3PO and doing a Mystery Science Theater riff on bad 50’s Sci-Fi scenes on the view screen in between thrilling simulated space maneuvers.

Next, Back Lot Express becomes a full restaurant themed to the Cold War spy-thrillers of the era with plenty of secret agent gags and video vignettes of Constantine and the Muppet crew in short “Spy v. Spy”- like sketches.

We bulldoze the stunt show arena for a massive Muppet dark ride in which AAs, projections, and yes, screens, portray the various cultural trends of the Post-War Era to the late 60’s in the inimitable musical comedy spoofs which are the Muppets’ bread-and-butter.

Each room will feature a sketch and song on a mid-century trend including: Westerns with Davy Crocket and Zorro, jungle adventures with the Jungle Book and an African Queen parody, schlocky horror monsters; the Latin music craze with the Three Caballeros guest starring; the Polynesian craze with a South Pacific homage; and the rise of Disney pop culture; all featuring music from the times -- and from Fox and Disney classics -- such as: Oklahoma!, Sound of Music; Hello Dolly; Cinderella; Poppins; boy-group do-wop, Motown, and early Rock ‘n Roll!

The Adventures of Hercules and Xena

Until Universal makes a block-buster Sinbad movie, then it’s time to retheme the Sinbad stunt show in the Lost Continent “Island” in order to feature the Universal intellectual property of Hercules and Xena, bringing a strong female protagonist in the mix and blending the show closer in theme with that of Poseidon’s Fury.

This was an interesting piece - a big fan of the Muppets and their presence in the park could definitely be upgraded a bit. Similar to the previous project - I'm not sure how well received a large-scale expansion would be for something going back in time rather than using the contemporary Muppets, but you did a great job at incorporating them into the pre-existing eras, specifically of Sci-Fi and 50s Prime.

And a sketch based Muppets dark ride would be a home run in any era!

The land from the first Incredibles move is coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios; starting from Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular and stretching all the way to Grand Avenue, this land will feature 4 attractions, 3 shops, and a restaurant.

The first attraction as you walk in is Syndrome's Superhero Spectacular (replacing Indiana Jones), a now enclosed show that guests can actually participate and be included in; the next attraction is the Incredicoaster, which takes its name from DCA, but has actual AAs and goes through a mountain; the third attraction is the No Capes Super Fashion Show, a fashion show that travels throughout the land and features the one and only Edna Mode as she describes and shows off each and every superhero costume from her new line; the final attraction is Jack-Jack Attack, a classic drop-tower ride that is themed to Jack-Jack and his superpowers.

Throughout the land you can find 3 shops, along with the re-imagined Backlot Express as the Num-Num Cookie Sweets and Snacks, where you can find the usual American cuisine, and find great names for food such as the Super Stretchy Burger, Superhero Salad, No Capes, Just Crepes, Frozone Fruit Pops, and the Masked Pretzel.

Bonus:
Located next to Minion Mayhem, Dr. Nefario's Evil Inventions Show will let guests visit the lab of Gru and Dr. Nefario, as the Doctor shows off some of his greatest evil inventions, such as the Fart Gun and Cookie Gutters.
With the second Incredibles project of the round, one of the downsides so to speak is that some of this I've read already. So despite putting in a self-imposed rule to stick with Incredibles/Despicable Me - if someone posts before you try to come up with something different than another Fashion Show for example. Your other attractions are nice, though the Incredicoaster I have doubts about unless you show me a map of how a mountain is fitting in this plot of land. The description of the Sweets and Snacks was a nice touch though.

Really appreciate the map here! Nice work -- while 23 acres is a bit large for a singular land (SW: GE is around 14ish) the contents you have inside it are pretty solid. The Indiana Jones flume ride is such a cool concept - would definitely fit in DHS as a park that needs some sort of added aquatic element to it. Temple of the Forbidden Eye sounds like spooky dining experience, there are a lot of creepy moments in IJA, wonder if a restaurant of it would have more of the same? Up was also an inspired choice (and one of my favorite Pixar films) I'm a little confused with the Rio inclusion considering the Disney/Fox deal hasn't gone through yet, and I think for a phase 1 expansion of a land, the Indy/Up combo would be a nice 1-2 punch without even needed Rio. I think that could have cut down the land size/budget as well

I do like your idea of attempting to tie in MMRR with Toonby Hills - it's an inspired concept! Donald's Dockside Duck Diner just sounds so fun to say - I really like that idea, and your integration ideas. But I'm a bit lost on what Star Tours turned into, if anything - as all that was mentioned was it would be integrated with Grand Ave. Replacing a show with a meet and greet, while I'm sure it would be an elaborate one, seems counter-productive for capacity as well, but does fit the challenge guidelines. Overall, some nice ideas though.

Welcome to imagineering! Overall your ideas are solid - Old Hollywoodland would be a nice fit with DHS which is already themed to Old Hollywood. That being said - Carthay Circle already exists on Sunset in DHS, so having an additional one here seems redundant. I'm one of the few who actually appreciates what they were trying to accomplish with Superstar Limo - but I can't say the same for the majority of the population, so that would be a mixed bag if brought over here.

The Fantasia dark ride sounds like a great attraction - and the Goofy coaster sounds fun, but they already have The Great Goofini at the Magic Kingdom. In the end - it's your first project, and anyone's first project will be praised for the effort - that being said, going forward I would try to hone in your ideas to a central theme. Goofy, Fantasia, and a current day lineup of celebs in Superstar Limo don't really mesh into the overarching theme of Old Hollywoodland. Start with the main theme, and then have your attractions branch off that theme - you do that and you'll be fine!
