-Emperor's New Groove-

CfoYeFSWQAANp5N.jpg

A little sub area themed to emperor's new groove will be added to Disney Studios Paris as a way to add some much needed greenery to the park while still having a tone and visual style that will feel distinct and different to the more fantasy, classic feeling castle park next door (with Kuzco's diva superstar attitude feeling very Hollywood).

Guests can pick their poison and get all manor of mixed drinks and smoothies (including alcoholic ones since this isn't a castle park) served in potion vials at Yzma's Lab or pick out a new outfit at the Emperor's New Clothes Gift Shop.

Of course the big draw of the small mini-land is a new river rapids ride (like Kali river Rapids but good) through the palace and the hidden lab, out into the woods, over a waterfall, and through the peasant village to Pancha's house in Kuzco's Crazy River Adventure Starting Kuzco which will bring a much needed water ride to the park as well as even more greenery and trees.

Bonus

This will be brought to Epcot as an anchor for a new Peru Pavilion

The Marvel Cosmic Universe: Thor
korg.png

The revolution has begun in Walt Disney Studios Paris with the first installment of the themed lands throughout Disney Parks based on Marvel film franchises officially called 'The Marvel Cosmic Universe: Thor' similar to how the Wizarding World of Harry Potter has Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley.

Ragnarok n Roller Coaster will be an E-Ticket re-skin of Rock n Roller Coaster to the trippy 80s colorful style and themes of Thor: Ragnarok as you ride along on an Asgardian cruiser as Thor, Loki, Hulk, Valkyrie, and Korg attempt to stop Hela from unleashing chaos, all set to classic rock n roll.

As the themed land will be set on Sakaar, and the E-Ticket helping Thor and the gang trying to escape Sakaar, there will also be a character dining experience called The Grandmaster's Pure Imagination, as well as The Scrapyard gift shop selling Marvel universe oddities.

BONUS
As an expansion to Norway in Epcot, due to Thor's Norse Mythology, both The Grandmaster's Pure Imagination dining experience and The Scrapyard will be brought over as clones, while Rock n Roller Coaster in Hollywood Studios remains.

In Walt Disney Studios Paris, embark on your journey down Cherry Tree Lane, now Cherry Tree Land, located behind Production Courtyard; with so much to see and so much to do, you'll be wowed; the big E-Ticket attraction is Mary Poppins: Steps Into the Painting, the C-Ticket attraction being the Poppins' Merry Go Round; there's also Bert And Mary's Tea Time, where there's food, drinks, and entertainment such as Broadway-style singing and dancing; don't forget to stop by Cherry Tree Goodies on your way out, or in.

In Cherry Tree Land, you won't want to miss the spontaneous bursts of scenes on Cherry Tree Lane from Mary Poppins, the longest and most fun being Mary And Children: Visiting the Chalk Drawings.

Lastly, take in the scenery, look at all the beautiful flowers, and even some hidden Mickeys; with phone booths down the lane, pick some up and listen to some conversations of the residents; everything in this land will immerse you and it will feel amazing.

Bonus: England, duh.

WALL-E
OSP #8 .jpeg

In this new WALL-E Themed mini land we have an out of this world (pun absolutely intended) where we can shop for snazzy space themed goodies at BnL's first earth based store, snag some sensational sweets treats at the Space-Bar, and enjoy a trip through space in WALL-E's premier E-ticket dark ride: The Axiom.

The Space-Bar (a Buy n Large company) will be a relatively cozy cafe with galactic themed coffee and smoothie drinks as well as a modest pastry case including there signature item, white and yellow marble cake to represent the two main stars of WALL-E.

The main draw will be the wonderfully designed trackless dark ride - The Axiom - which will take guests on a randomized tour through the main parts of the spaceship (the captains area, the pool, the food ares, and of course the window scene "define dancing" in doombuggie type seats meant to represent the chairs the humans ride around in on the ship.

Bonus: This goes where Universe of Energy is in Future World

Imagination Land (see because inside out doesn't presently have an attraction, you gotta wait for summer for that
S3AfN6G4.png
)
Inside-Out-80.png

The e-ticket of imagination land will be the train of thought, which will take guests through a high speed chase in different parts of Riley's brain. The shop of imagination land being inside preschool world, which well sell both generic inside out merch, preschool toys and school supplies. The restaurant being an outdoor eatery located in french fry island, which will have different foods that go well with french fries and every type of french fry and french fry combo to ever exist.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bonus:
As much as I hate doing this, all parts of Imagination Land will be put in the imagination pavillion. The train of thought being the main ride, preschool world replacing the gift shop, and french fry island taking over the dvc lounge. However to please figment fans, he will live in the magic eye theater.
Inside Out is a good choice for a miniland. Riley’s Mind is a really distinct setting, and ride opportunities are plentiful. Your proposal has solid ideas, ones which would need more space than One Sentence Competition permits to really flesh out. What does the land look like? Is this outdoors, or indoors with a transitional sequence as guests enter the mindscape? The Train of Thought E-ticket I picture a bit like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, and maybe a few more details would make that clearer.

Bonus: I too am conflicted about having Inside Out evict Figment, but obviously this is a realistic bonus since rumors say it’s actually happening.

The Land of the Dead

Coco-tram.jpg

Guests enter a small building and proceed to cross the tram tracks via the golden petal bridge (which contrary to the name, is actually a tunnel) to enter the Land of the Dead's transportation station, with a shop to both sides of the enterance.

The station features authentic Mexican music, as well as the iconic music from the film playing live (A-Ticket), a restaurant with giant windows that show views of the Land of the Dead (they work similarly to those to be in the space themed restaurant for EPCOT, with sCrEeNs), and a spinner where guests ride creatures resembling Pepita.

The E-Ticket tells the story of Hector being late to his live performance for the day of the dead, so he relies on a varied forms of public transportation to get us there (the ride vehicles seemingly shift from boats to Peter Plan's flight style vehicles, to speedy cars to accomplish this effect).

BONUS: The Mexican Pavilion at EPCOT gets a major update, beginning with the reworking of the ride (though in the update, the E-Ticket starts with the boat vehicle, rather than the skyliner/tram).
This week’s trend: Pixar films lend themselves really well to minilands, with their variety of unique settings. Coco is quickly among my favorite new Imagineering topics. You set the stage very nicely by describing entry into your land, in keeping with the film. This miniland bursts with life (ironically), and would be by a far margin WDSP’s most engaging location. Your E-ticket is appropriately ambitious, a strange amphibious hybrid, and it’s description is perfect for this quickie competition.

Bonus: It’s inevitable we’ll see more Coco in Epcot’s Mexico, and you’ve modified your original land appropriately.

Paradise Falls

Coming to Walt Disney Studios Park, a new mini-land “Paradise Falls”, bringing this mystic land and the story of UP to life with 2 attractions, one restaurant, meet and greets, and one gift shop (The Jungle Mercantile).

In “Paradise Falls”, you can journey through a Wilderness Explorer Camp (similar to Camp Discovery in Shanghai) that winds through the treetops and caves of Paradise Falls, and afterwards you can stop by Carl Fredricksen's house (“Ellie’s Home Cooked Meals”) for some tasty-home cooked meals, with waitresses and entertainment similar to what you get at the Prime Time Cafe in Hollywood Studios.

The big E-Ticket that will make everyone flock to this new area of the park would be “Paradise Falls Flyaway Railway”, which will be a roller coaster that begins as a standard coaster going around Paradise Falls, before you “flying up” to a suspended track through a dark ride section, making it a family adventure for all ages.

Bonus: A new “Venezuela” inspired pavilion will be coming to the World Showcase, recreating Paradise Falls in Epcot, but some Venezuelan Culture will be added.
I just love the map. That’s going way above and beyond. Already great work.

I like the various attractions and features. We have another hybridized family ride, like Kevin’s for Coco. Is there a new Disney ride patent idea I’ve missed?! Seriously, someone tell me! The Shanghai ropes course is lots of fun (DCA has a tamer UP-themed ropes course), with the indoor section great for snowy Parisian winters. Ellie’s Home Cooked Meals feels like a slight stretch, perhaps, while dog-made meals served in Muntz’s zeppelin could’ve been another restaurant option.

Bonus: Creating an entirely new World Showcase pavilion is a brilliant move; I was not anticipating that, but it’s obvious in retrospect. Nice!

Castle Isle: Brave

Going in the area between Toy Story Playland, and the Studio Tram Tour, Castle Isle: Brave will be the new Pixar mini-land added to the Toon Studio area.

The mini-land will feature a version of the castle found from the film where inside the castle will be the E-ticket ride and a restaurant; themed with a Scottish heritage of food.

This attraction will use similar technology found in Toy Story Mania (due to that attraction not being in WDSP) where instead of firing different arcade items, arrows will be shot as you train with Merida.

Bonus:

A version of this attraction will be added to the UK pavilion at EPCOT due to Scotland being a part of the UK.
Once again, Pixar minilands simply work! Brave is a natural choice, sure to appeal to UK visitors. Scottish cuisine is famously horrifying, and it’s a choice that will work well in Europe (and Epcot). The arrow shooter E-ticket is a great variation on the Toy Story Mania concept, a ride which WDSP is glaringly lacking. That would be massively popular!

Bonus: It feels like you picked Brave for this bonus and retrofitted it into WDSP. This works well, actually, and if WDSP emulated World Showcase that might be a great way to improve it.

Please tell me this land is called Kuzcotopia!!!

If we’re playing “Guess which movies the host is obsessed with,” you’re pretty spot on. The Emperor’s New Groove is great for WDSP, as you explain, since it adds greenery and is very unlike the castle park style. The rapids ride, with this film, I picture itsomewhat like Popeye’s Bilge Rat Barges, and that’s good. Apparently Disneyland Paris rejected Splash Mountain because of their cold winters, making this sadly a risky proposition, though on its own I like it. Everything else works fine, though it needs more Kronk.

Does the restaurant serve spinach puffs?

Bonus: It’s brilliant, brilliant, BRILLIANT I tell you! Genius! (Said like Yzma.)

Another “movies the host is obsessed with” triumph. Korg is the new Kronk. Sakaar is an unexpected location choice over Asgard – it’s more visually engaging, but less iconic Thor-wise. Truthfully, a garbage planet sounds better than WDSP.

Ragnarok ‘n’ Roller Coaster (amazing name!) is a good reskin, considering the obvious musical choices of Iron Man or Guardians were off-limits. For the restaurant, what if diners got to watch the Grandmaster’s battle arena? Drink Valkyrie’s potent booze? Overall…I dunno, you’re playing to my known obsessions…but this land should be dedicated to the Hulk.

Bonus: Boy if people thought Arendelle was tangential to Norway, wait ‘til they see Sakaar! Can this even be done in Florida with Universal’s Avengers contracts?

This feels the most like WDSP’s Ratatouille miniland, which is a major plus. A small London section, very appropriate. Perfect picture choice, it already feels like a miniland. There’s plenty of whimsy in your descriptions and details, which are plentiful, and while the E-ticket gets little more than a name, the miniland overall is very easy to imagine. Interactive phone booths. Live entertainment – Bert’s one-man-show perhaps? It’s all like a quainter version of Diagon Alley. Mary Poppins has forever demanded more love in the parks! If Mary Poppins Returns is a success, maybe…

Bonus: Duh.

There are a lot of really good movies getting love this week! WALL-E is wonderful. My instant favorite thing is the trackless dark ride. It’s weird, I actually expect the Galaxy’s Edge dark ride to be a lot like this. Everything else is in place too, and certain details like the marble cake clearly show the land’s personality. I assume this is all set after the Axiom has returned to earth, so I’m curious about how the BnL consumerist elements mesh with the film’s environmentalist finale.

Bonus: You got it, again just under the wire!

Challenge 8 results

Apologies if my reviews might seem slightly more scattershot than usual. I’ve just gotten home from an unusually crazed Wednesday night on the town.

Every property chosen this week is fun and fascinating! What set the winners apart? Generally, fitting WDSP the best, which is a tricky rubric to define. Or rather, they feel the most like what WDSP ought to become. And then there was a personalized map, which is way more effort than One Sentence Competition needs, and I can’t ignore that.
