Welcome one and all to the third prompt of the One Sentence Competition: Pitching Elevators!
Feel free to join in even if you missed the previous rounds

-The Set Up-
It is the Present Day and you are in an Elevator with the head of Imagineering, Joe Disney!

The former Wonders of Life Pavilion in EPCOT at Walt Disney World has been empty for a LONG time. It used to have Body Wars, a D-Ticket groundbreaking (at the time) simulator ride similar to Star Tours; Cranium Command, a C-Ticket multi-media animatronic show that partially inspired inside out; and a collection of small interactive exhibits. After the closure of the Pavilion, it was pretty much just used as a flex space for the festivals. In early 2019, a permanent replacement was announced! Well, semi-permanent for 5-10 years or so to give kids more to do and help with crowd control during the extensive EPCOT overhaul.

It was planned to be a simple play area full of Meet & Greets and interactive games that were going to be based on already dated technology (insiders suggest the games would've been essentially Disney themed Wii Sports). Then in 2020 the funniest thing happened that delayed most Disney projects resort wide, but especially the Play Pavilion. A very hands on exhibit where you touch everything didn't seem as appealing. By the time it would be viable again, the tech would be even more out of date.

Leaving this pavilion abandoned once more.

-Challenge-
Pitch a new EPCOT Pavilion to replace the former Wonders of Life/Play Pavilion. It should feature at least one ride and one interactive exhibit.

BONUS: Let's Start the Festival of the Arts Early

Include a simple piece of original art with your proposal. It can be very simple stick figures, a logo quickly whipped up in your phone's notes app, a masterpiece painted on a canvas, a map made with PowerPoint or Google Slides, a piece of origami, a smiley face on a white board, whatever! Literally anything counts as long as it isn't AI.

There are a lot of tips for making very easy and simple bits of art in the old Imagineer's Workshop thread. And there are free online art programs that work both on laptops and phones without downloading any programs such as Sketchpad. Plus, there's nothing wrong with a paper and a pencil.

Santa Cecilia Plaza

Replacing the whole of Pixar Place is Santa Cecilia; an interactive walkthrough attraction that showcases Miguel's hometown of Santa Cecilia in an eternal Dias de Muerto. Built as an indoor attraction where the sky reflects the real outdoor time, Santa Cecilia Plaza offers food and festivities of Mexican traditions, and at night the town's folk honors and celebrates their ancestors, who can be seen as augmented projections watching over their family and exploring the town.
Bonus: Hector​

Found at the Riveria's home and brought to life (pun not intended) through augmented reality, Hector is sure to entertain any and all guests who come to visit.

As a Mexico fan, this land is literally Oaxaca every November 1 and I am here for it!

Hey Joe, we’ve traveled to Mars at Mission Space and far-off Xandar at Cosmic Rewind, so let’s convert the old Life and Health pavilion into WISH UPON A STAR, a celebration of our own galaxy, the centerpiece of which will be a planetarium show. After exploring the Milky Way, guests will embark on a thrilling new ride aboard trackless vehicles on a journey through our solar system as they speed past the moons of Jupiter, dodge the rings of Saturn, experience the heat of Mercury and the misty world of Uranus – hosted by, who else, Jiminy Cricket - before returning to Earth. We’ll round out the pavilion with interactive exhibits on science and space travel (including individual simulators) that rival the best planetariums in the world, and bring a bit more edutainment back to Epcot’s World Discovery.

Art Pavilion

(This is the logo, it would probably be styled like other Epcot pavilion logos, though)
After Disney realized that having a pavilion where guests could touch things was insensitive because of you-know-what, Imagineers quickly decided to replace the Play Pavilion with one themed to one of the most important aspects of imagineering; art. Guests enter the pavilion (inspired by many art museums found across the US) and are treated to the view of a wide mural depicting drawings and paintings of Disney characters. Guests can join Animation Academy classes with Edna Mode (a holdover from the play pavilion), play interactive games on a section of the pavilion’s walls and floors by using your body to color the landscape, explore a small museum with Disney concept art, and ride the Paint Palette, a tea cups ride where guests spin around a palette while learning about mixing colors to create new colors (ride vehicles/ “paint globs” also change color when they ”mix”/interact with other ride vehicles/paint globs), hopefully inspiring young (and young at heart) Disney fans to become Imagineers and artists.​

 

[Brer Panther]

ELEMENT CITY​

Based on Disney and PIXAR's surprise hit of the year, Element City allows park-goers to explore the whimsical city that the characters in Elemental call home - while also adding a bit of edutainment back into EPCOT. Guests can soar over the city in a hot air balloon (like the one Ember and Wade use in the movie), take part in a game of Air Ball at Cyclone Stadium (the interactive exhibit), float on a cloud (EPCOT's first "spinner" ride a la Dumbo or Astro Orbitor), soak themselves in Wade's water play-area, buy something at the Fireplace (Ember's parents' store), learn a thing or two about the actual elements of the world, and eat some hot and spicy food (be sure to bring plenty of water to cool down your tongue after!) at the Firetown Barbeque and Grill. And yes, there's also a meet-and-greet with Ember and Wade.

The Mind, Heart, and Body Pavilion

A successor of sorts to the Life Pavilion, the Mind, Heart, and Body Pavilion explores the mental, emotional, and physical health of mankind and the technology and techniques that help improve our lives, the building itself resembling a hodge podge of shapes like DNA helix strands and walls like blood red cells.

Attractions include Baymax Says!, an interactive, edutainment exhibit with Baymax, explaining medical-related topics in a humourous, child-friendly, but approachable manner; Mood Swings, a suspended dark ride featuring the expanding cast of Inside Out, an adventure through Riley's subconscious as it is influenced by her emotions' antics; and Double Helix, an advanced pendulum spinner based around genetics and DNA.

New Horizons​

With Test Track revisiting its World of Motion roots in the future, and with crumbs ever-dropping that Disney will finally do something to make Journey Into Imagination far more enjoyable again, it was decided to continue this trend of marrying old and new EPCOT by turning the former Wonders of Life pavilion into a reborn iteration of the pavilion fans miss the most: Horizons. The golden dome of Wonders of Life has turned into a new Futureport, where guests can take a closer look at how we can shape the future in various interactive exhibits and play areas (one of which is inspired by Disneyland's House of the Future); shop for the future's latest trends; or even enjoy a bite at the Futureport Cafe. Of course, the main attraction is a reborn Horizons, utilizing innovative new technologies and updated depictions of the four locales from the original to truly bring guests into the future.

The Wonders of Life pavilion has returned and been expanded (with an additional showbuilding) in the new LifePort Pavilion, with entirely new attractions focused on the adventure that IS the human body: CTA - Cardiac Transit Authority, a Wedway-style ride of varying speed through dioramas (with Marc Davis-esque humor thrown in) of various sites throughout the human body using the blood vessels as the railway; Body Warriors, an augmented-reality trackless adventure in which you join the ranks of the white blood cells blasting animatronic and projected viruses (which feels especially satisfying after the last four years); and the Mind's Eye Theatre, where we join our friends from Inside Out in a revamped Cranium Command.

Ecosphere Discovery Center
Welcome to the Ecosphere Discovery Center, this Wall-E inspired pavilion takes up the wonders of life pavilion which holds 1 trackless dark ride, a counter service restaurant and an exhibit about humanity’s relationship with space. The counter service restaurant will be themed to the restaurant on the space ship and the exhibit shows the history of man’s history with space. Ecovoyage: A WALL-E Adventure is a trackless dark ride through WALL-E’s adventures through the movie and the history of space and how we should take care of our planet.​

Love Pavillion

Behold the new idea of something so centric to Disney reborn and presented to you cleanly, in the magnificent form of the Love Pavillion, dedicated to Disney’s most romantic moments and couples!

The Love Pavillion has inspiration from Valentine’s Day, but is here all year round, so the history of Valentine’s Day can be accessed convincingly from the get -go when you’re here, to the point a statue of the saint is at the front. This doesn’t begin to cover the attractions found at the Pavilion; on top of meet and greets, there are rides including I See The Light, a boat ride taking you across many romantic Disney moments, A Whole New World, a motion simulator, and the return of Videopolis!

“small world” pavilion​

A replica of Rolly Crump’s kinetic Tower of the Four Winds marks the entrance to a new pavilion hosting “it’s a small world”, moved here from the Magic Kingdom for a further renovation of Fantasyland and embracing the attraction’s origins as a pavilion at the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair. In addition to the main attraction (reimagined so guests can opt to sail around the world by boat or take flight in a makeshift hot-air balloon), guests can also dine in a “small world” bistro, tour an exhibit where they can learn more about the countries represented in the attraction, and design their own dolls, while younger guests can burn off some energy in a colorful play area in the stylings of Mary Blair’s signature city collages.

Technology Pavilion

The World of Discovery’s focus on science and technology will be on display at the Technology Pavilion (sponsored by the world-famous interdisciplinary MIT Media Lab, whose mission is to positively impact society). This educational dark ride (which uses futuristic-looking vehicles designed by the Media Lab) journeys through scenes describing the history of scientific discoveries (such as Louis Pasteur’s discovery of the rabies vaccine in 1885) before showcasing some modern research from the MIT Media Lab (such as the tool of Artificial Intelligence and providing access to educational innovations especially for those in impoverished situations) including an interactive world map exhibit (including live data) that allows guests to see the effects of pollution. Similar to Chevrolet’s sponsorship of Test Track, MIT will be able to ask Disney to update sections of the attraction at Disney’s expense to reflect the newest developments in technological research.

The Robotic Pavilion

Over the last 40 years, Honda has been one of the forefront leaders on humanoid robotic designs with the E-series in the late 80's, to the P-series in the early 90's leading up to ASIMO in the 2000's and their new Avatar robots that are their current project. Throughout the pavilion, guests can work through the interactive attraction of the P1 Instruction Junction where guests "work" with an old Honda P1 robot through a series of instructions to complete basic tasks (walking through a door, picking something up, etc.). Guests can also board onto The Gears of Progress: A Robotic History, a dark ride designed to take guests through the history of human and robotic connections and advancements from the beginning of time, to the present, and into the future Honda has planned with their new avatar-based robots in the mid-2030's.​

The Wonderful World Of Art is a pavilion taking guests into an art gallery filled with famous works. Guests can go on a trackless carriage similar to those of Mystic Manor or they can explore the gallery on foot. Works in the gallery include The Gare Saint-Lazare, Arrival of a Train by Monet, The Young Shepherdess by Bouguereau, Portrait of Madame X by Sargent, A Bar at the Folies-Bergère by Manet, Vanitas paintings In the style of the Dutch masters meant to remind us of our miserable mortal state, Las Meninas by Velasquez, The Gold Fish by Matisse, Portrait Of Jeanne Hebuterne In A Large Hat by Modigliani, Sun Flowers by Van Gogh, and Dora Maar by Picasso.

Aeronautic Pavilion

The sibling pavilion to the Space Pavilion, the Aeronautic Pavilion focuses in on man's fascination with the sky above and the inventions they created for exploration and travel. This pavilion plays as host to The World Above Us, a suspended dark ride that takes guests on hot air balloons as they look through the evolution of manmade flight. The pavilion also has a fair number of interactive exhibits, including The Skunkworks, where guests can design their own aircraft and test them through simulations to determine how successful they are and how they can be improved.

 

[Architectural Guinea Pig]

A NEW PAVILLION AWAITS...

walking past the leafy playground of GPU Jungle and entering the glowing Cyberspace portal, discover the modern take on kid-friendly edutainment- The Cyberspace Pavillion, an all-new pavilion replacing the Wonders of Life Pavillion, dedicated to not just the innovation of technology, but shrinking down and stepping into technology with a multitude of worlds that make up the computer: CPU Plaza, SSD Speedway, Memory Meadow, and Cooling Springs. While it seems like an entirely original take on the concept of discovering worlds themed towards the inside of a computer, the land is inspired by the obscure PlayStation-Asobi IP Astro's Playroom, with two rides directly related to the lovable bot Astro: Network Speedrun (A simulator) and ASTROBOT: Virus Elimination Protocol (A WEBSLINGERS type shooting ride). Mixed with interactive exhibits teaching different systems, the land features a Cooling Brews bar and 8-bit Bites counter service, making this a truly retro-futuristic addition to Epcot- and finally, something for families to do.

 

[Solaris Knight]

THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF WEATHER

Acting as a complementary pavilion to World Discovery that also parallels The Land and the Seas, the World of Weather contains a refurbished and revived version of the Stormrider attraction from DisneySea as well as moving Soarin to it for additional capacity and thematic tie-ins.

These two attractions are bolstered by a walkthrough with animatronics charting the history of Meteorology named Watching The Skies, as well as a quick service restaurant named Airy Appetites, focusing on food "themed" to weather phenomena through clever platings such as sunny carbonara plates of pasta, drinks with specially made ice to look like hail, and crunchy thunder pop rocks in puffy cloud-like cakes and cookies.

World Mythos

EPCOT has always been about the future, but here we take a look to the past with a pavilion based on Greek, Roman, Egyptian and Norse mythology with attractions centered around each. Anchoring the Greek section and tying into the newest Disney+ show Percy Jackson will be an E-ticket swing arm thrill ride where guests will fight monsters such as the Furies, the Minotaur, and the Chimera alongside characters from the book series. Upon opening the Egyptian section will have a carousel with different gods animal associations, the Roman section will have a walk through art gallery, and the Norse section will include a Bifrost play area, with room for future expansion planned if received well by guests. ​

I love the idea of keeping the space theme going and giving World Discovery a bit more of a thematic tie and the Planetarium sounds great! There's a thin line between space working as unifying theme and this just feeling like a retread of its neighbors, but I think you found a new enough angle to make it work. A trackless dark ride through space is already a very cool idea, but adding Jiminy Cricket to it? I never would've thought of that in a million years and my first reaction was that he felt out of place but the more I thought about it the more I loved the idea! Of all the Disney characters out there, he feels like the one who would most want to educate and inspire guests and his voice would be great for narration. A big swing but imo a home run!

I love the Art Pavilion! It could've very easily just felt like the poor man's Imagination pavilion, but you manage to make it distinct enough to fully justify standing on its own! Imo the best festival at EPCOT is the festival of the arts (and its not even close), this feels like taking what makes it so special and basing a pavilion off of that! It might make a bit more sense in a different location rather than in between Cosmic Rewind and Mission:Space in the science themed World Discovery area (It would be a great fit for Communicore Hall's location), but I'm not gonna hold that against you since the lands at EPCOT have always been vague at best. I will knock you down a bit for not having a big draw to anchor the pavilion. A flat ride is great (and EPCOT desperately needs some flat rides) and I love the theme, but generally the pavilions have a big ride to draw people in and then the exhibits are a bonus, but your project is all the bonus stuff. But despite the lack of a big draw, this is still a fantastic concept!

+1 Bonus - I would've been so upset (Joking upset) if you pitched the Art Pavilion without doing any art lol

On the surface this seems like an odd concept, and I'm never a huge fan of single IP lands especially not in a park like EPCOT. BUT you managed to convince me pretty quickly that this makes sense. Explore and learn about the elements using Disney IP. Sorta like how Moana feels extremely EPCOT just with Moana stuff added on. This pitch feels like it would be right at home in epcot. If the movie never existed, you could still put this exact thing into epcot and it would work just as well. My only concern is that theming it to the City as a whole feels a bit broad and a bit too much like a traditional theme park land rather than an EPCOT pavilion. Focusing on a smaller location (Element City Expo Center?) would've helped this feel even more uniquely epcot. That being said I love spicy food and anything that brings more spice to the parks is good in my book.

The Mind, Heart, and Body Pavilion

Attractions include Baymax Says!, an interactive, edutainment exhibit with Baymax, explaining medical-related topics in a humourous, child-friendly, but approachable manner; Mood Swings, a suspended dark ride featuring the expanding cast of Inside Out, an adventure through Riley's subconscious as it is influenced by her emotions' antics; and Double Helix, an advanced pendulum spinner based around genetics and DNA.

This sounds like a perfect modern take on Wonders of Life! Baymax teaching kids about health, an Inside Out dark ride that teaches some basic psych stuff, a flat ride which would help round out epcot's attraction count. It's great! It might not be the most out of the box idea to mostly just do "What was there before but with new IP" but just because an idea isn't super out there doesn't make it bad. This would be a great way to make a pavilion that feels like classic epcot while including the disney characters guest want and expect from the parks.

A reborn Horizons is one of those ideas that keep coming up and everytime it gets suggested everyone agrees: That would be sweet! I love the Futureport pavilion and incorporation of some other ideas like the House of the Future. It's a really fun twist that turns the one ride into a whole pavilion. I can't give you many points for creativity when your main ride is: Bring back Horizons. Realistically this is what most epcot fans want and likely would be the best option, but for a game like this a more unique take is more fun! Sometimes its less about choosing the best option and more about showing off what makes you... you!

This might be another revamp of what was there before, but you found a really unique angle for it! A shooter ride using AR to battle viruses sounds like a blast and a Marc Davis style gag filled dark ride through the human body is a super fun idea. For balance sake, simplifying one of those to a more low key attraction rather than two E-Tickets might've been smart, but with this pavilion being a bit more out of the way and neither ride having a popular IP attached I don't really have an issue with some extra draws. Two big rides might be smart here! Of course, rounding things out with the Inside Out show is really fun too. Good throwback to Cranium Command without being too on the nose
