I really don't care how great the actual Disneyland park is , at least WDW is not in the middle of gangland. The area where DL is located is just plain scary, I will not go for that reason alone.

LMAO, gangland?! Clearly you've never been to Disneyland or South Central Los Angeles, or both. You are so funny.

Good lord, I'm so terrified I'm going to get shot...by a palm tree. LOL!

BTW, Orlando ranked fourth in this list of top ten most dangerous cities in the U.S.

I don't know how anyone who's ever been to DLR could call the surrounding area 'scary'. It's one of the most squeaky-clean, touristy areas in the Greater Los Angeles region. It's the farthest thing from being a 'gangland'.

You're seriously fooling yourself if you think that Disneyland is in a bad neighborhood.

Clearly, I have my brother in law was killed four blocks away from DL because he got caught in gang crossfire!

I guess that is why my brother in law was shot and killed by gang crossfire very close to Disneyland and why my husbands parents moved the family to Texas because of it.

So that automatically makes it gang territory? Do you know how ignorant that sounds?

So what if I got shot in Beverly Hills or Bel Air by a gang member? Now Beverly Hills and Bel Air are gang hoods? No.

I'm sorry to hear about your brother-in-law.

My husband told me the area right around it was nice you get a little bit away, not nice and they are not the only people who have told me that. I actually wanted to go back sometime since I was a little girl when I went and CA didn't even exist then, but too I've been scared off by people who live or have lived there.

Why don't you go and see for yourself?

Did you know Orlando has made 'most dangerous cities' lists multiple times? I doubt Anaheim has ever made it on one of those lists. I'm from CA, and based on things I've read about Orlando in terms of crime and all that negative stuff, I should be afraid to visit. But I'm not. Orlando making 'most dangerous cities' lists doesn't scare me and it's not going to stop me from ever visiting it. One cannot live in fear like that.

The area has changed a lot. In fact, the whole of LA is a shadow of it's former "violent" self. I think riots and media have played alot into this international image that LA is some dangerous city...it's not, and never has been.

Granted, I don't live there, but in my visits over 20 years, I've seen a dramatic change. Just like NYC...completely different than it used to be.

Note, NOLA, DC and Chicago are all (historically and factually) more dangerous than LA has ever dreamed of being.

I've read your posts, and I am truly sorry about what happened to your brother in law.

But raven24 and englanddg are right; you have nothing to fear, especially if you were going to Disneyland. While you're on Disney property, there's so much security that you are just as safe there as if you were at WDW. If you're that concerned, you just stay on Disney property. That's it! You either stay at one of their hotels (expensive but worth it) or you stay at a good neighbor hotel, which has transportation to the parks.

It's a great experience, and I would hate for you to miss out on it because of fear. That's like not going to Hawaii because you're afraid a tsunami will hit. What happened to your brother-in-law was a freak thing that could have happened anywhere. Also, I have to ask you, when did this happen? Because as was previously stated, Anaheim is no longer a particularly seedy area, so if it happened years ago...

Let's put it this way: I'm an 18-year-old, not particularly tall or intimidating girl. I felt perfectly fine walking around Downtown Disney by myself at night. And I did.
Let's not forget Anaheim isn't even in Los Angeles County. It's in the O.C., or Orange County.
I always remember what county DL is in because both WDW and DL are located in Orange county;)

As a side note, I remember when one of my vendors "moved to Ontario", and I thought that meant Canada.

Nope...California. :p

I didn't know there was a city named Ontario in California until just a few years ago, when my mom, my sister and I went there for a conference for Christian women and girls LOL. Canada was the first thing that popped into my head! I fairly recently found out there's a street called Los Angeles in Downtown Los Angeles.

I don't have time to learn the multiple cities in this country haha.
