'One Disney' + 'DL the focus of creative energy' = WDW getting shafted again.

In a timely article very much related to the subject of this thread, Kevin Yee describes the tragic results for WDW, this time concerning One Disney promotions.
Disney World has really gotten the short end of the stick when it comes to the national promotion called limited time magic. Disney considers the program to be part of its one Disney initiative, meaning that it can choose to do a special event on just one coast each week and still boast that they have 52 weeks of things to experience. It’s a perplexing promotion. Many of the events have such limited scale or limited appeal that it’s hard to see just who this was designed for.
Disneyland at least has brought back a beloved stage show and fan favorite in the form of the Golden Horseshoe Revue. Walt Disney World, however, has had to make do with limp ideas such as a half-baked New Year’s Eve celebration that repeated daily for a week, or a miniscule meet and greet starring characters that were recently at the upcharge Christmas party.

Well Mine Train is opening next year. That should be fun.
I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed by the Mine Train. There is a lot of pressure riding on this little ride.

As far as to the original post. I disagree. Yes, WDW is in bad shape right now. And DLR is rocking on all cylinders. But it wasn't long ago that Disneyland was in worse shape than WDW is right now. And DCA landed with a thud. They focused a lot of attention on fixing it. Pressler/Harris did a lot of damage that has since been fixed. Meg Crofton is WDW's Pressler/Harris. She has been "promoted" to a less damaging position and Burbank has been made aware that there is a problem in the swamp. But WDW will get fixed. Just like DLR did. It is not that they are favoring one over the other. It's that at times they have trusted the wrong people to manage their properties. The fact that there is a resort up the road that is absolutely intent on kicking the crap out of a bloated and out of shape mouse is an entirely different issue. But is does make fixing WDW all that much more important to the health of Parks and Resorts Division.

That said, it is true that in the '70s and '80s TWDC spent a lot of effort and money on turning The Walt Disney World Resort into Walt Disney World. But that was the intention when Walt bought all that property. But they DIDN'T let Disneyland decay like it did during the Pressler/Harris Era. It's just that there never really was the intention of turning Disneyland into what they intended on turning WDW into. The Disneyland Resort concept came after they saw the success that Eisner had achieved with WDW.

I agree, people are getting their hopes up, thinking it'll be an E-ticket. It still likes like an enjoyable ride, though.

It, like the rest of the New Fantasyland will be pretty with little substance. Just like the Kardashians.

I can't stand the Kardashians. Khloe's fine, I guess.

This was the perfect time for MK's Fantasyland to be completely transformed, and they passed, for some reason. All that space could have been used for more rides, but no.

Disneyland is the favored park.

Disney is trying very hard to get us all to visit DL instead of WDW.

And they're letting WDW slip more and more all the time...because they don't care about the park or its future. They care about themselves and their current salaries and that's it.
Can you imagine trying to get all of WDW guests in DL and DCA. You talk about crowded! So I don't think that is what they want at all. They have been the most popular park in the world for many years and it is taking a little time for it to sink in that those glory days are about over. Universal has kicked Disney out of bed and forced them to go downstairs and make the coffee. They will react, but will it be soon enough? Right now they are spending a lot of money in WDW as can be verified just by looking at all the construction going on there. They still need to come up with a show stopper and I don't think they are even close to imagining one.

What I find interesting in the article is that how the last guy on the Jungle Cruise looks different on both coasts and even once went by two different names. In Florida, his name was Chief Namee while in California, it's Trader/Salesman Sam. But the article stated that Florida skippers were now required to call Namee, Salesman Sam.

I honestly hate some of the Magic Kingdom's Fantasyland with the medieval looking carnival tents and the boring switchback ride queues.

Disneyland's Fantasyland looks to be more natural, and with far better theming. They should just re-do most of Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom, because the new Fantasyland makes the rest look even worse.

Yep. The only reason why DL's Fantasyland had the tent look is because Mr. Disney didn't have enough money to make it look the way he wanted. I don't know why Florida copied, the tents are just plain ugly and cheap-looking. They had the money at the time to do the Bavarian village look.

Another yep. With Mermaid's really pretty facade, Pan looks even more cheap. Don't get me started on small world's facade.

I think that Walt Disney World needs more Disney in it. Otherwise it's going to look more like the old DCA as time goes on - irrelevant attractions and off-studio properties diluting its character. I hope WDW gets something as awesome and beautiful as Carsland and Buena Vista Street - but something ORIGINAL, not clones of either one. My vote would go to a Disney Villain Land in the Enchanted Forest, as another poster here proposed recently (sorry, can't remember his/her name). That could be amazing...
