So I was looking through the photos that our newspaper posted from the parade yesterday (see above zombie picture), and I spotted at least 4 relatives in the crowd.

Gotta love that gene pool! No diving!

At a July 4th gathering, a distant relative was telling me about his recent purchase (he's 14 and into guns) - it's a 6-shot pistol that can shoot a combination of .45 magnum and .410 shotgun shells. I think we have a zombie-apocalypse fighter in the making, or a serial killer, but I think it's the first.....

He wasn't wearing a RedSox cap by any chance was he?

That's why I married an outsider. And why my daughter left this town - everyone is related to everyone else.

True story - I was taking an Environmental Ed class which required us to do field work at some brooks in the town next to mine. So , as the 6 or 8 of us were wading through muck, collecting samples and what-not, one of the locals approached us, pointing a loaded shotgun. Our professor tried to explain who we were and what-not, and the old man didn't want to hear it. I spoke up and stated my last name (fairly legendary among the locals), and he immediately engaged in conversation with me about various relatives of mine, and how he remembered some of my ancestors, etc. He lowered the gun, and wished us well. My professor was speechless, but I did get an "A" in the class.

We could be twins I swear!

I thought things might be different in FL. Maybe for other areas, but not NE Florida. At one point, my son had 4 first cousins in his class, from a family with 4 daughters who put all of their children into the same private school. The same thing was true with my daughter - she had one classmate who is a Kevin Bacon - 6 degrees of separation from everyone. We were making connections in Atlanta, and he and his family were waiting for the same flight. We started talking with his parents, and it turns out his mother was in the same class (in PA) as my SIL, and remembered her from HS. Just had never made the connection with our last name because we all live in FL.

BTW, was that the Bristol Parade?

No, the Bristol one has class (even Miss America this year). This was the Chepachet Ancients and Horribles Parade. It's ,well,....different.

I know exactly where that is! My Uncle & Aunt lived in Pascoag, on Wallum Lake.

BTW, that's Pass Koe, for you non-Rhodyelandas.

F/G - the snow epicenter of RI. At least if you listened to Salty Brine announcing the school closings.
My old high school now sells stuff that says "No school....Foster/Glocester!"

I miss Salty Brine - "brush your teeth and say your prayers"

All I can say is wow.

You know, geographically RI is not that far from NY but you people really are lightyears apart on other levels :missthelookaroundemoticon:

And watch out for the zombies. Especially in the rural RI areas, if there is any correlation between vampires and zombies.

You want to know how I can tell that The Mom has been away from New England too long. Her forum name isn't "The Ma"

Anyway,my birthday is coming up soon, and I thought that I would give you all a heads-up on the shopping list. I wear a size medium.

My SIL still tells me when she has stopped by to see "The Mars" Her mother is buried in a cemetery a few blocks from my parents.

My brother left RI years ago, but still lives in NE so hasn't lost the accent.

"Mash- a, it's ya brotha Robit."

I used to speak just like that when I was a kid. It brings back memories.

By the way, the conversation took a bit of a strange twist earlier (is it possible?), so I have taken the liberty to provide a warning sign for the sake of our lurking members...

Chepachet = Ja (or cha - more of a blend of the two, but not too much of a ch sound) patch-it, for non-Rhodyelandas

Of course, since Betty was raised in a different part of RI, her accent would be slightly different than mine - I was raised in the East Bay area. My accent would also be different (as would hers) from someone raised in Cranston, on Federal Hill, or Woonsocket, for example.

At least back in our childhood.
