Oh, those poor Ingalls girls...

The only time I've experienced single digit temperatures in the last 30 years is while skiing - and a couple of days they were double digit - but below zero.

The coldest It's been here since I moved in was 11 degrees, so almost single digit. That's when pipes start freezing and bursting, because basements are very rare, so everything is relatively exposed. Also, heat pumps do not function very well below freezing. I have a couple of space heaters (electric) for those rare days.

I just keep reminding myself it's really only bad for 2 months of the year - mid-December to mid-February. Then we usually get some mild days mixed in. I just hate those days when I get in my car to leave work and I can still see my breath when I am halfway home!!

I know 9-degrees sounds bad, and while on one hand I'm concerned for people's safety up there...why am I beginning to get jealous?

well it's going up to the more tolerable 20's this week, and possible 30's next week.

January thaw and all that you know....

I have officially added a scarf and gloves to my "leave the house" ensemble. A hat is not too far behind. My daughter is still clinging to her hooded sweatshirt. I just look at her and get cold!! Must be nice to have "limo" service that warms up the car, drives her to within 10 feet of the door to the school, and picks her up in that same spot. Yup - must be nice.

I hate the fact that I have to layer everything just to be comfortable inside. The whole idea of scarf, gloves, boots, and heavy coat to venture outside just fuels my disdain for winter.

So, on a happier note, I may have found my dress for my son's wedding. It's a little less than formal, but very pretty, and I have a white shrug to wear with it. If it doesn't work for the wedding itself, we'll be hosting an informal reception later this summer, and I know it will be perfect for that.

How formal is the wedding? Unfortunately, the MOG (Mother of Groom) doesn't have much say in what to wear (a friend had to find a gold gown - thank God she was able to find a tasteful one after an exhausting search) unless you have a bride who doesn't care.

But, it's still nice to go along with the program as much as possible. My SIL wore a lovely electric blue dinner suit ( a bit of rhinestone trim) which would have been fine if the rest of the wedding party, including the MOB, hadn't been wearing floor length pastels.

She coordinated things better for her daughter's wedding a few years later.

But I agree that it is perfect for an informal reception.

It's a small wedding at the chapel at a camp where they both worked. I'm waiting to hear from her about how formal she wants it to be, but the dress was a great deal on line, so I ordered it anyway. I suspect it will be OK with her, but if not, I can use it for other occasions anyway. I hate dress shopping in the stores, so this was really just a stroke of luck. Shoes are going to be an issue, but I'll figure out something.
