It was so windy a few minutes ago that the rain was actually horizontal. Couldn't see acrosds the street. Now all is calm, but it's still prety humid.
Horizontal rain is always bad. And I know what you mean about the strange color!

A tornado hit about 1/4 mile away many years ago. The sky turned a very strange color in what would have been a typical FL thunderstorm. I grabbed the kids and we all hid in the downstairs bathroom.

I also got caught near a tornado driving in SC on I-26. Horizontal, blinding rain and trees blowing over - Thank God there was a big rig in front of me, but if he had run off the road I would have followed him.

I said, "That's it - we're stopping for the night at the next exit!" When I turned on the news, they were talking about the tornado, and the path was very close to the interstate.

Yikes - that's scary!
A couple of years ago, a tornado hit the Springfield area and we had warnings around here. I was driving home from school, and I just remember the sky being that same odd color - yellowishy. And the air got very still for a while, which was really weird. Not a leaf moving.

I found this on on my bookshelf - forgot my daughter (of the estrogen filled zombie party) had given it to me for Christmas.

Thanks - and OH NO - the closest one is 10 miles away!! Guess no late nite Rita's runs for me!! :(

We have Ralph's Italian Ices on Long Island and they are EVERYWHERE so I can stave off the cravings there!

This is what I get:

I once drove where there was a tornado. My car radio didn't work, so I had a boom box playing AC/DC. All the tornado signs were there. When it was windy, I saw birds being tossed around by the wind. They would try to fly, but they couldn't. Everything was weirdly colored. I knew it was tornado weather, but I had no idea where it was. Didn't know if I should speed up, stop or what.

I drove, white knuckled, singing "Shoot to Thrill" to keep me calm while praying. I went about 30 mph because that was about as fast as I could go, anyway, plus I figured I wouldn't be caught or catch up to it at that speed, which I now know was silly, but that was my thinking.

It's scary.

I saw later that there had been two and one was practicallyon top of the highway. Damaged a barn you could see from the highway. I can't believe I didn't see it.

I guess I kind of drove like a zombie. ;)
