Although they don't show a lot, here are some pictures of the project from backstage during last weekend's Marathon Weekend events. Here's a look at the backside of the new Sommerhus construction, from the road between it and the Mexico pavilion, taken during the 5K on Thursday (January 7). The metal shed in the center of the photo is one of the old parade barns from Tapestry of Nations; you can see a little bit of the construction to the right of it

And here are a couple photos taken during the rainy 10K on Friday, January 8. There wasn't much to see, but the oversized doors were open and the lights were on inside. There were several construction workers on the site, and I could hear a circular saw or table saw running; considering it was around 6:00am and raining, I was surprised how much activity was going on (though the photos don't really show it). The building exterior looks essentially untouched from last year, but now has a couple big banners for a safety initiative; they can also be seen from the outdoor portion of Test Track

(EDIT: These photos were taken along Avenue of the Stars, looking southwest)

I also stopped by the park side of the pavilion on Monday, January 11 and heard the crews at work. It sounded like they were screwing metal studs into place, which would indicate they're starting to put walls up inside. Although it seems to be taking a ridiculous amount of time to complete this conversion, there has been active construction every time I've gone by it

As an aside, I like the fact that they go to the trouble to create large banners for employee initiatives, etc. that only CMs see.

Oooo, sounds mysterious. I'll have to keep an eye on it when I visit, thanks!

Usually they do them in the late mornings at the start.. think after the people get to work, they work up the attraction (vs getting there early).. they go and open for a few hours and then close again.. So times like 10-1pm are frequent for soft openings.. then often again later in the afternoon before the end of the day (like 3-4pm). Then as they get closer to opening, they may do more, or even get to having it open most of the day.

They are not announced (follow news and websites for the daily updates), and can change at anytime. Oh, and never trust what the CMs up front will tell you.. they will say they aren't opening, but that isn't garunteed.. things change all the time, and the CMs up front aren't the ones making the decision. But sometimes they do know when something major has happened and there is no chance of an opening. So if they hint it might.. that's usually credible.. if they say 'no'.. less so.. unless they simply say 'no more FOR TODAY'.. that's usually pretty credible.

I can't remember if I posted this here. But it's from the Parks & Resorts panel at d23 in August. They were working on the Sven AA. And if I
remember right, she said that they would be using the same technology as the mine train for the AA's?

That's going to be a very small bend. The tightest turn on the old ride was actually between the unload and load (off ride section). But those boats banged against the walls of the flume in that area

That might be, but when I saw it i felt like they were using the whole space, which is actually a lot from the side of the wall (where the flags used to be) to the other side (where the painted wall used to be). Dont think the bends will be that small actually. Still, I feel like it is better than nothing at all. I also think they have changed it from the old unload to this new area (where the old queue used to be) so the boats won't bang against the walls that much.. The whole wall was stripped down and a lot of construction was going on there. But who knows? :p Im excited to see the change when i return to work at the pavilion later this year :)

The bends will be quite small. Think of them as a S shaped kink in the previous straight load trough where the kink goes out into the old interior queue area and back again.

Yeah exactly like that! (even though I'm pretty sure they are longer than that (closer to the wall) I dont think thats bad at all.. :) Its not that small considering the space they have to deal with!

Lets say the RED area is gonna be for the queue.. they could also be using the GREEN area for extended track :) At least I hope they do..

Sorry if this has already been answered, but will the ride still have the fake over the edge/going outside trick and then send riders backwards? I know they did not change the track so
I am assuming so. Thanks!

The ride is still going backwards since there is no wait the boat could probably not make that hard of a turn. As far as looming over the edge, I guess it depends if they close the hole up or not.
