Trip Report No Bug Movie...promise! *COMPLETED*

It is with great excitement I sit here in the Atlanta airport, Disney bound with my middle child. While this is my 5th WDW trip this year (I *may* have an addiction problem...) my DS (henceforth known as Drumr) has not been to the world in 3 years...before MagicBands! Don't feel too sorry for him...his first trip was at age 2 and he has been numerous times since. (Warning to parents of young kids...be careful what traditions you start!)

Drumr is one of the very few people who live in Disney families who have never seen Frozen :jawdrop:. I recommended he watch it before our trip, since those sisters from Arendelle are EVERYWHERE.

He did not.

But to his credit, he said he wanted to see the Frozen sing-a-long since it would be "a new attraction to experience."

Talk about baptism by fire...all those prepubescent girls screeching "Let It Go" at the top of their lungs.

Not to mention the snow. All that snow.

When it was over, he said he didn't need to watch the movie.

So you can imagine my surprise when he said he wanted to see Voyage of the Little Mermaid. Since it's a favorite of mine, I did not protest. The dancing turtle always makes me smile!

When the show was over, we declared our day at the Studios to be a success. What better way to celebrate than with a refreshing beverage? Time to board the PoFlo bus. Destination ~

If you couldn't tell by my avatar, the Poly is my favorite resort and I look for opportunities to visit even when not staying there. Drumr had not seen the Poly since the DVC additions, so we walked the grounds before our libations. We checked out the post-waterfall lobby before inquiring about the wait for Trader Sam's...at least an hour...so we opted for the outdoor Grog Grotto. A pleasant breeze was blowing and the entertainer was playing the ukulele and singing the "Bring Me Someone to Lava" song...we were transported to an island paradise.

Of course a Spikey Pineapple added to the tropical experience.

We had a dinner ADR to make at the Grand Floridian Cafe, so we did not linger too long at the Grog Grotto. When we boarded the monorail, I recognized @CrazyDisneyLady from her live TR sitting across from us. Naturally I introduced myself, as any good WDWMagicer would do!

We had a lovely chat and parted company in the GF lobby...she was on her way to 1900 Park Fare.

Dinner at the Grand Floridian Cafe was delicious, and we had a warm and friendly server. Drumr enjoyed the NY strip:

And I enjoyed the Chicken Alfredo with prosciutto:

And now honestly, I have to give props to the DDP because we were allowed to share this amazing dessert sampler:

I'm a little late to the party but following along now. Happy you had light crowds and accomplished so much at DHS. Can't wait to finally experience the Poly during my trip in February. Sleep well and have a great day tomorrow!

Chocolate Mickey!!!! WANT!!! :joyfull:

As for the challenge picture, might that be somewhere in the TOT? I was thinking that the time era looked about right for that location.

Enjoyed reading about Drumr's "introduction" to Frozen at the singalong! :hilarious:

Since I know you're a big Poly fan, what did you think of the new lobby? (I can't bring myself to go there, as I was so bummed when they removed the waterfall and all the tropical greenery, but I'd be interested in your impressions.)

All the food and drinks so far look wonderful! :hungry:

Great TR so far! Seeing DrumR in that polo........have I mentioned how sensitive I am to heat? Garsh.....
My DH is incredibly sensitive to heat also. He would never wear a black polo to the parks during the hot season. Drumr not bothered as much...also, it was cloudy and sometimes breezy yesterday, which helped.

I am hoping chocolate Mickey makes it home with us, but not sure he'll make it past TSA, LOL.

You are right in your guess about the mystery pic. That creepy ventriloquist dummy (which I never noticed before!) is behind the desk where you used to be able to purchase the ride photo. There wasn't anyone around in that area, which is probably why I noticed it.

I was a big skeptic until I saw the new Poly lobby for myself. It is brighter and still retains a tropical feel. I like the light fixtures and the view from the second floor down into the lobby area is an improvement, IMO. I miss the waterfall (and the smell!) for nostalgic reasons, but the change is not a deal-breaker for me.

My brother (who is also here this week with his family) texted me and said he does not like the new lobby and that it looks smaller...I replied that's funny, because it looks bigger to me!! To each his own!

I love Disney mornings. So full of hope and expectation of what is to come that day. Sleeping in is not an option; I love the quietness of dawn. Therefore I was happy to go get coffee for Drumr while he showered. I was treated to the sight of several hot air balloons soaring overhead. If you look closely at the next picture, you can see a parasailor higher than the balloon. Was the balloon pulling him? I don't know.
