Eagles lose receiver #2 to an ACL injury. This time it's Arrelious Benn who'll be out for the season.

More WR injuries:

- Chargers WR Danario Alexander tore his ACL and will miss the season.

- Packers WR Randall Cobb left practice with a bicep injury. Supposedly it's not significant.

Falcons' offensive tackle, Mike Johnson was carted off the field today with a leg injury and was taken away from team facilities via ambulance.

More info on Mike Johnson (OT for ATL): He dislocated his ankle, and fracture his fibula. He'll undergo surgery next week. I haven't seen a timetable for his return, but I can't imagine that would be soon, if at all this season.

Nah, he's gone for the season. We've got two guys we're trying out at RT and if they don't show any signs of production after this weeks game word is we'll hit the market. Still, it sucks for Johnson. I hope he has a speedy recovery.

Packers' rookie running back, Eddie Lacy, was sidelined with a hamstring injury today. Doesn't appear to be serious, but it comes one day after he was given first team reps.

I don't remember hearing about this many season ending injuries before, either. So far Goodell's "safer" methods haven't been working.

I saw this on the Falcons message board. It does make a bit of sense:
Explaining the high number of injuries. The new collective bargaining agreement creates too much time for the players to rest their bodies. As one front office exec told me, long rest helps joints, but long rest isn't great for tendons. The new work rules give players 14 weeks off from the end of the season, seven weeks to train with their teammates and then six to eight weeks off before training camp. If the players aren't doing enough running or training to keep the tendons constantly working, they are vulnerable to the ACL tears, Achilles pulls and other injuries that have hit teams. Many of these injuries have come in non-contact activities. The league and the union need to devote time to figuring out a better offseason strategy to help players stay away from these bad injuries.

So by protecting their players, they're getting injured instead. Makes sense. :p

The day is finally here... the first day I've seen my Falcons take the field since that heartbreaking loss to the 49ers in January. I know it's just a preseason game but GO FALCONS!

I have to wait until tomorrow for the Pack. Can't wait! Although Eddie Lacy might not play, and I doubt Randall Cobb will. And then Jordy Nelson is out... but it still should be exciting. I want to watch the running game against another defense.

With the first real day of preseason games over, there are a couple of injuries to report, so big names, though:

- 49ers' QB Colt McCoy suffered a shoulder injury and it set to undergo a MRI. The injury doesn't appear to be serious at all, and the MRI is just a precaution. And has there been a game where Colt McCoy hasn't gotten injured?

- Steelers' WR Plaxico Burress tore his rotator cuff in practice. His season is likely over, and I wouldn't be surprised if his career went with it.

- Former Madden cover athlete and current Buccaneers' running back, Peyton Hillis, left his Buccaneers debut with a knee injury. Don't know whether it's serious or not, but he walked off the field.
