It’s not just for the Wii, it’s for the entire series, and Mickey has never peaked as high or even passed it once. Ideally there would be a character to character comparison but this is not misleading.
I know that. But if you look at the top query it is for the wii and it is around the time it released. So it's lumping in mario searches with searches for the system.

It’s not “for the Wii” just because it peaked around then. The series has existed far before and after the Wii hence why the search results are still high.

Again, the peak is when the wii was released. And the highest search term was for the wii.

I don’t doubt that Mario might, at certain times and in certain contexts, generate more interest than Mickey. Harry Potter certainly does:

But interest and recognisability aren’t the same thing. Many more people searched “Boris Johnson” these past couple of years than “Winston Churchill”, but I’m certain the latter remains the better known and more widely recognised figure overall.

Continuing to say that doesn’t make you correct.
It literally shows the wii as the highest searched term. Not mario.

There's not much reason for anyone to google Mickey Mouse. There's reasons for people to google Mario repeatedly if they're looking for information about a new game.
I somewhat regret sharing the initial Ngram. Ironically, I found it on a blogpost arguing that Mario is more popular than Mickey (it seems the debate isn’t new or limited to this forum). As you say, such data can tell us only so much.

Call of Duty as a video game series outperforms Mario as a video game series over the past 6-7 years on Google trends. If you look at individual titles, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (which I think is the single highest selling Mario title) and Super Mario Odyssey aren't even close to recent Assassin's Creed or Call of Duty games in Google trends.

I don't think either of them are more recognizable than Mario, though. Just a couple of examples of how Google trends aren't that useful for various reasons.

Could just be me but until the shorts that started up in 2013, I don't remember him having much of a presence outside the parks for a good while there. However, I freely admit that may just be that I wasn’t paying attention. Either way it is going to be a VERY long time before any character is even remotely as recognizable.
Disney did make a few animated projects focused on Mickey before the creation of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

There was "Mickey's Once Upon A Christmas" from 1999

Mickey's Twice Upon A Christmas in 2004 (although not as good as the first one) and Disney's first attempt at making a fully-CGI Mickey Mouse project.

And the House of Mouse, which involved Mickey and his friends running a nightclub filled with beloved Disney Characters. Watched the heck out of the show when it was first running on One Saturday Morning on ABC back in the day. That show really deserves a revival on Disney+!

I think we can agree that Mickey is probably the more widely known character but Mario is well known in the video game universe. EU should be a new and amazing park and, if marketed correctly, will definitely steal a day or two away from a week that in previous years might have been all devorted to the parks in DIsney exclusively. The more diversity in Uni will have people giving those parks a second thought for a visit and maybe more than a day. The competition should benefit us fans in theory, so I hope that EU is a complete success. Marie

To get this thread back on topic, as I mentioned pages ago. I seriously miss when MK used to have more than one stage show compared to now. It's why I'm still bummed about this project never happening and the removal of Tommorowland Theater.

If Tommorowland Theater and the planned theater at Main Street ever existed. Then MK would had been able to host three stage shows that would gain seasonal offerings. As popular as the Hocus Pocus show is at MNSSHP, I wish there was another show dedicated to other Disney Villains.

Unfortunately with the current regime I don’t see them adding labor heavy shows in the future, although I’m shocked how many CMs it takes to run webslingers so they could surprise me.

At this point I’d settle for more streetmosphere back.

If they ever got around to adding more stuff to the other park (fingers crossed), this theater in MK is exactly the type of crowd absorbing- in the A/C! - but not drawing lots of extra people to the park attraction that would benefit MK.

Not that I’d complain if they added an E-ticket to Adventureland
