New Star Wars Fireworks Show - 'Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular'

Is anyone surprised that they held back every piece of news about new offerings so they could publish them all the same week the budget cuts hit?

There is also the expected ticket price increase. I wouldn't be surprised to see that hit any second now.

Yes, their timing couldn't be any more obvious. But I don't consider myself a child fooled by candy either. I will fully embrace this while also knowing what else is happening.

I am very much looking forward to this. It was at least good to have some positive news this week.

I agree. I don't think we're being fooled, but it's interesting to note the timing.

I place my trust in insiders here that seem to be indicating this will be a great show and look forward to it.

My idea for balancing things out on the left - deploy the drones!

Oh wow that would be something, wouldn't it? They do reference next generation fireworks in the press release. Did Disney ever get FAA permission for the use of drones in their parks as of yet?

Also, I just thought of this. By this summer, our choices for night time park ending shows will be:

1. Celebrate the Magic/Wishes - Magic Kingdom
2. Illuminations, Reflections of Earth - Epcot
3. Fantasmic! (I assume) - DHS
4. Rivers of Light - DAK
5. Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular - DHS

It seems as though WDW is really hoping to spread out the crowds at night time ever since the MK Wishes show became so insanely popular. Maybe they will accomplish this now. It will be interesting to see how each show performs in terms of sheer numbers. Although I am personally awaiting RoL in DAK, I am betting that this Star Wars spectacular will be the next big night time show in WDW. I think that this will draw crazy numbers.

What is nice now is that if you stay for 5 nights, you will potentially have a different show to go to each night.

Going in may i am pretty sure this won't be ready by then ... Do you think the will keep the actual symphony in the stars show until this new one is ready ..

Because they are not lauching from the same spot, I guess it is possible to keep them until the new ones are ready ... For now they are only confirmed until april 30th ... May is really a forgotten month this year !!

I think part of that will depend on how much work is needed on the rooftops that currently house the low level pyro launch gear. You are right in that the big stuff at the rear of the park is totally separate from the existing setup.

I could see a scenario where they have to take the current rooftop launch hardware offline to install the new equipment.

Yeah ... I can think of that too ... But so much stuff going dark in april and may I really hope those fireworks will stay... Guess we will have to wait and see but it doesn't look good because they are not on the official schedule after april ...

The schedule has been slowly trickled out right from the start though, so I wouldn't necessarily read a lot into that.

Is this *just* for the summer or *from* the summer? They are never very clear about this.
It will be interesting to see how it plays out. I have a feeling this will play on an as-needed basis, depending how things are going elsewhere in the park.

From the concept art, it looks like the stage would be a major obstruction for the projections/lasers.

Do you think this means we're getting a new stage as well?

I'm thinking/hoping we're getting *no* real stage for the new show they announced, at least nothing like they've had in the past.

In the concept art you can see the trees that are part of that new "Center Stage" area. Any structures added would be in the way of all of the visuals they're representing in the artwork. So my hope is that means only a low-level stage, no truss or roof over it, perhaps with some new lighting rigs on either side of the north-east side of the plaza.

Absolutely to cover the cuts. I think there was another poster who mentioned that they basically have a whole list of project announcements that they hold until they are necessary, which makes complete sense. Why release information if you don't have to? The goal is to release information like this to shift the focus off of the negative online chatter.

Massive cuts to our operation? Hey......Look! Over there! Star Wars!

Yet it seems to work for many in fanboi circles. It's like distracting a toddler with candy.

Or as the Romans called it "Bread and Circuses."

While visiting my Dad, we saw the current iteration. It was nice, the Star Wars music makes excellent partnership with explosions.

But it in no way made up for

1. Being told, "I'm sorry we don't have any Coke" during the start of the lunch rush at a food service location with at least 2 visible fountains.

2. Hearing a CP swear into the microphone because she was expected to spiel before she was prepared, got flustered and let it out of her mouth before she even knew what she said.

3. Shopping at World of Disney and have the CM ring you up, without saying a single word, or making eye contact at 10:30 in the morning (so no full day of bad customers to blame it on)

4. Hearing about how my friend was at a Guest Service window for an hour, because they messed up her MDE account while trying to add her AP (they added it to her husband's profile which she manages)

I really don't think there is much that can be done to make it look intentional. Whenever there are fireworks behind a central object, people are always expecting it to line-up.

Interesting that they don't show any close-up low-level pyro other than the flames. Wonder if we are losing those.
That was my thought. Maybe it will be like the DL Forever! set up with fireworks, lights and fire will be from the roof tops.

Another question to wonder, where would the projections be coming from? The only way i see it is if they remove a few trees and place them on roof tops of Hollywood blvd.

Curious about this myself. Reading the actual post on the Disney Parks Blog, this is referred to as nightly. There is no further mention as to it being temporary, at certain times, or nightly in line with Wishes. I am hoping that it is nightly.
