We will be, if they disallow costumes on people 14+ at the Halloween parties. I've already notified them and we're waiting to see what their policy says.
Dray, this is a curiosity question, what types of costume limitations would you accept? No masks, jedi robes? I would like to get an idea of how many people not go because of this.

I picture this conversation happening:
Disney - "That's correct sir, no costumes over 14+ during Halloween.
Dray - "Ok, then I will be cancelling my trip"
Disney - "Sorry to hear that sir" <click>
As Disney operator thinks to himself "There will be plenty of people to take his place".
They will need a ton of complaints/cancellations to change their minds I think. To some extent, I don't think they care too much unfortunately.

Not sure about those, and it's really tough to call. It basically comes down to whether or not their limits match up against what my kids like to dress up as. I know that this year, as of right now, my daughter says she's going to go as Venelope and Minnie, so that shouldn't be a problem. It's my son's costumes that might skirt their policy. He's a big fan of Assassin's Creed, and most of the characters in that game wear some type of head covering, but nothing that blocks the face.

You know what's funny?

Ehh. I'm betting the agent would try to change his mind. Or at the very least, apologize in a nicer way about the situation. The agents I have spoken to have always been really nice.

Oh, I know. I'm absolutely okay with that scenario, as there's always someone to fill the gap and I have always been the one to say that to other people when they've talked about not going for whatever reason it is. But if it takes a ton of complaints to change their minds or whatever, then I might as well try to be a part of that movement. Besides, if we're not going to enjoy it as much then it wouldn't make sense for us to waste the money. The main reason we go in that God awful heat is for the parties and Free Dining. The main reason we enjoy the parties is to trick or treat in our costumes and look at all of the other cool costumes. No sense in spending $250+ per night just to trick or treat in my AE jeans.....

Yeah, I'm thinking that the reason that the Justin guy is trying to call me instead of just returning my email is to try to talk us out of not coming if the change happens. I can't fault him for trying, but it won't help. That really makes me sad AND angry at the situation too, because after that 16 year gap of going to DL and then rediscovering the magic at WDW in 08, we might have to find another family destination to enjoy.

If the face isn't covered, I don't see an issue. They might though.

I really can't believe taking away costumes for the party is even being considered.

It is a shame the agents couldn't apologize and have some sort of authority to better assist. By which I mean this ;
Disney - "I'm terribly sorry that your son's costume doesn't fit our new policy. Are you sure you want to cancel"?
Dray - "Yes"
Disney - "What can we do to make it right"?
Dray - "Five extra no limit FPs per person per day and take $75.00 off of my bill per night:
Disney - "Done, welcome back! Have a magical vacation"!

Lol, that beats what we had to go through just to get some extra lousy FPs in September of 14.

Yeah, we've actually had our eye on the Halloween cruise that Disney offers. Wonder if they allow costumes there......
It isn't a park, and you only get magged when you go into the terminal. While cruises are so much more expensive, I find them more fun. I don't remember the names of every CM that has done something magical in my 30+ visits, but I can tell you the names of all my servers at dinner on the cruise. They are what the parks and resorts should be.

A big part of the problem is that the parks play on your nostalgia. I have been there numerous enough times that if I don't hit everything, it isn't a big deal. At the same time, if I just do a cruise and stay on the property without hitting the parks, I'm ok with that, but I feel as if something is missing.
I think that has a role.....people's emotions. As much as the parks can be stale, I don't know if I could go two or three years without walking down MSUSA. But something needs to be done with the parks and they also need to straighten out the security mess. I know we joke about people saying if you don't like it, don't go, more room for me. However, I'd hate to see a family save for such a big trip only to cancel because of letdowns like this.

There's a great line I heard Denis Leary use earlier this year, "we were too poor to have feelings." Everybody is offended by everything today. Yes, you're not a threat, but the security team doesn't know that. As long as the team is respectful and does their job in a professional manner your complaining sounds like whining.

In this respect, the terrorists have won. They've affected our way of life where every day people are being "harassed" for looking potentially suspicious. But I'd much rather have a few people feel "harassed" than the alternative.

Well I would agree with this if the "alternative" was a worse situation. The metal detectors provide absolutely no measure of added security. I don't personally carry guns, if I did the only reason I wouldn't take them into WDW parks is the inconvenience. I would have absolutely no problem taking a gun into the park. I wouldn't be deterred by this and very likely not stopped.

The reality of the situation here is they are harassing people to make ignorant people who don't understand the situation feel safer.
