I was able to save my florida resident clients quite a bit of money. Please remember that all adults in the party need to show proof of residency when booking the fl resident pkg with free dining.

We are seriously saving money. It will help with gas prices to get to WDW and hotelsgoing down and coming back. Once there, no worries...everything is paid for unless we choose to purchase something extra.

I think that's the "piece of mind" that the dining plan gives. You can look at menus at AllEars and plan pretty well, but until that bill comes for each meal, you can never be exactly sure.

I did a lot of reading about the dining plan last night - of course I knew a decent amount about it and knew the basics, but I was curious what others experience had been like. I kept reading about how great a value it turned out to be - that the biggest complaint was too much food. :)

And then I was glad we got such a value - until I reminded myself that we aren't only getting a huge value, but it's FREE in the first place. Most people found it a deal at $35 a day, but even if it wasn't stellar in our cases...it's all gravy, so to speak.

Did anyone else wake up this morning and not fully believe it was true? I had to check my email to see the confirmations from Pam to make sure it wasn't a wishful dream. :D

LOL...I did not believe my daughter when she told me...then she showed me what we got.

I can enjoy a meal within the limits set, after all I am at Disney and guess what...I don't have to eat my wifes cooking.....What a vacation.

What are the limitations? I have the list of the participating restaurants, but can you only order certain items from those restaurants?

Any Hopes Of this being held over a bit ?

I love this big bonus of food -- but it ends a month before we arrive  ( Nov.5) -- oh please please -- let this promotion be held over --

As previously discussed on another thread there arent any limitations as far as menu choices on the food plan that we are aware of. Belle

Is that with the cost of food factored in?? I understand the Military rates are pretty outstanding though!!! Have a great time and dont forget to go see the Lads in Plaid!!! Belle

Let me calculate it again to be sure.

Wilderness Lodge for 6 nights with Courtyard view normally $1705.95, and Poly Lagoon view for 3 nights normally $1338, total $3043.95. With the military promotion I'm paying a grand total of $1961 for both stays, so a total room savings of $1082.95.

Then food - I'm doing 11 sit down meals but the dining plan would only cover 9. My 9 most expensive meals covered by the dining plan (after tax and tip) add up to $432. Our counter service meals are usually $22 for my family, times 9 is $198. We don't eat snacks so that isn't a savings and shouldn't be factored in. So if I had a free dining plan my total savings would be $630.

$630 is a lot less of a savings than $1082. Did I calculate that out right? I just want to make sure I'm using the most beneficial of all the options available!

The other thing to take into account is that some of resturants cout as 2. That means that you could end up still having to pay for some of your meals. The AP rate plus the DDE plan still end up a better deal for some. I know for us it is still cheaper to pay for the meals.

I think you are right on track with your thinking, Laura.

The big difference is that I am traveling with three adults and a teenager, and you are a couple with small children. That's why the savings is so tremendous for us, because Pam worked it out so three members of the party are getting the dining plan FREE. That's, as I figured earlier, over $1100 worth of food for only a difference of $140 in room rate.

In your case, since food isn't as huge a part of your budget as ours because you have less adults, it doesn't make sense for you. I know how you feel - nervous about not taking advantage of this offer. But, as you have reasoned very well, since you can only take advantage of one or the other the discount on those STELLAR rooms works out better for you.

I think you made the right choice!

You are right - that's probably the reason is because I have little kids. If they were both "adults" then probably the free dining plan would be the way to go.

It just so happens I have the World Showcase portion of Epcot on my itinerary for October 1st, so maybe I'll see you Belle, if you will be there early in the day! I'm planning to be in World Showcase around lunch time (pretty pathetic I have my schedule down to the minute already LOL).

The 2nd is our departure day so we're doing Animal Kingdom before we take off.

Belle, you are the only person from here that I've met in person so it's funny that we'll be there the same time again!

Thanks, everyone!

I called CRO and had my reservation changed, we wre staying at the POFQ and I paid for the meal plan and passes.
Now we are staying at the Animal Kingdonm Lodge in a Savannah view room, with the free meal plan and tickets and I got back $455.00.
I just love all the information on this site.
Thanks everyone

Ok- I am trying to get a grip on this.
Have AP and DDE but this may be a better deal.

I did have Pop booked for Oct 1-10 at the military disct rate of $462.00
We usually eat 2 CS meals and one snack a day avg $50/day

Fl res pkg cost would be $971.60 at Pop. That includes room, 1 day base tix(2 A,2 K) and dining for 9 days. That is a difference of $59.20.

HMMMM...we can eat better and more. That 59.20 difference is less then the cost of one character meal( we usually do one a trip ...hadn't factored that in yet).

Am I figuring this correctly? Seems silly to buy the tix when we have APs but if this is correct I am spending the same amount no matter what I do...just getting more for the $$.

Is this right?

Thanks for the help!
