I wonder if they'll just dream up a completely new show to open in 2019 and give it the same name, just to save face? The budget on this thing must be already through the roof, surely somebody will pull the plug if it's not sorted soon?

I think even if everything with this show had gone perfect from Day 1, you still would have seen a new show with the same name within a few years. Not unlike World of Color, it wouldn't shock me if they announced "Rivers of Light: Celebrate!" For the 50th or a holiday version called "Rivers of Light: Season of Light" to boost the Christmas crowds...

Except World of Color is a stationary platform of pure fountains and Rivers of Light is a series of floating barges that are very specific to its conceptual story. It's nowhere near as malleable and a WDW 50th show would make no sense at all to put in Animal Kingdom anyway. A Holiday show would be a huge stretch too. Can you really build a show entirely around reindeer and polar bears while having Lotuses and Tigers floating around?

Yeah... I thought my 11/27/16 trip was good for seeing ROL, when the opening was April, then rumored to be summer, then fall, then CM previews before we arrived, and then just an empty seating area :(
Oh, how disappointing! Has any other project opening been put off so many times in the past? I thought Disney used to be more on top of that sort of thing. In previous years, when my family was looking forward to something new at WDW, you could bet on it that it was ready on time, and we never missed anything due to delays. Or am I dreaming?

The original or the remodel? I actually miss the original, campy, I know, but my kids were always fascinated when we stood in line, now they just zoom through and skip the beginning.

The original. Was delayed two years if i recall.

If you include Universal, there was the High in the Sky Suess Trolley Ride. Built for opening day of islands of adventure, it didn't actually open for years and years.

You could also consider Rocket Rods at Disneyland. Built on the old peoplemover tracks, it was engineered HORRIBLY and was quickly closed, never to open again. The track still sits empty.

Disney has had its moments.

Rocket Rods still makes me incredibly sad. Disneyland's Peoplemover was really nice- it was relaxing! Not so much RR. Now the track rots.

Do you know why High in the Sky didn't open for years? Just curious. Went on it in November and thought it was pretty cute!
