I did read guest don't like seeing these big bulky barges during the daytime as they just sit in the lagoon..I'm not sure if they are moveable..
They were ugly as hell in daylight when they didn't used to collapse.

Now they are bearable. Just. But still not ideal. Given the underwater infrastructure and precise positioning needed I dare say they are securely anchored with no room for movement.

There again I'd take the collapsed towers in the day over 360s globes during the day anytime.

Don't get me wrong - DAK needs Rivers of Light desperately. I hope it is spectacular. I just wish it was as spectacular as could be.

Exactly. I have the same thought seeing the globe in the middle of WS lagoon in the early evening. DCA figured out how to stage these shows correctly.

No they haven't. I mean, on paper, they did. But I go to Disneyland / DCA every couple of months, and without fail, that hideous World of Color infrastructure is always in show position, above the water, all throughout the day, destroying what was one of the best sights in the park.

Very interesting set of permits filed today:

Asia Viewing Area
Asia Viewing Area Control Building
Dinoland EER Completion
Dinoland Viewing Area
Discovery Island Light Bunkers Completion

All are by Balfour Beatty Construction and all expire 10/31/2016. So it looks like there will be two viewing areas for the show.
So would the viewing areas be most likely situated like this? I had hunch that this would be the case, but I'm normally not correct..
*Edit: Nvm, I see that this appears to be the case. I'm just excited that something I wanted to happen is actually in the works. Lol

I was curious about this given some pics I've seen. How unfortunate.

Yeah. I'd actually prefer infrastruture that moves in and out of the show location, leaving a pristine clean area during area.

When I was there DCA last year they had the rafts down most of the time. The only time that they went up was about 10-20 minutes before the Goofy music liquid show and then went back down shortly after. If they aren't doing that I wonder why. I would think that they could build the rafts just like a sub to where they should be able to handle the constant up and down motion.

The better idea would have been to build a fixed platform with show elements just below water level. Then just empty the required water into a holding pond right before the show. Then you could take the overnight hours to pump the water back so that by morning the lagoon is full again. Repeating the process again the next day.

I think this may be the fix someday.

I think you're underestimating how much time and money it takes to raise and lower water levels in a body of water that big.

To lower them just requires gravity and big enough outlet. And they would only have to lower the level a few inches. Refilling would take time but could easily be done overnight because the show always occurs at night it makes it easy. Look at how much water they move in Catastrophe Canyon in a very short time period for instance.

If they want to build some infrastructure like world of color it would require them to drain the whole lake and build a foundation for the platform. They could do it.... but....$$$

That might work for putting things into show position, although would still be a major undertaking, but the DCA platforms can also be raised up into a maintenance position which is at least a foot higher then the show position.

Yes it might not work at DCA without major reengineering. But if they retrofit Fantasmic at DHS at some point I contend it would be quite easy. For future maintenace you just drain more water. No raising, lowering, floating or moving show elements. Only changing the water level as required.

You could even have a resevoir above the "lake" that is pre-filled to speed things up if more that one show is offered each day.

Similar to how locks work for shipping channels.

I may be in the minority here, but I sorta like seeing the globe come out in the evening. I wouldn't want it to be there all day, mind you, but there's a small but welcome jolt of anticipation for me when it arrives.

Understandable. I am just not a fan of such infastructure. However if it someday was moved to the lake in Disney Springs I would be pleased. Just my opinion.

I like getting stuck at the drawbridge myself. Up close and personal, and I get to thank the pyro guys for their efforts (who are sadly, not very talkative; mind you I'm not saying they aren't friendly, but they're just busy guys)

While I can personally like the idea of the DCA system moving into DAK, I just can't help but not like this idea of a night-time show at all.

I helped open the Bone Yard at DAK, and the one thing I always liked was the fact it closed earlier than the rest of the parks. Giving the animals a nice break and time to be what they are, animals. With all the events keeping it open later and now a night time spec in order, I can't stand seeing it happen.

But, if we have to do it, the DCA system for WoC is perfect. It's not that intrusive to the animals (as fireworks would be just too much, in my opinion) and having seen WoC several times now, it's a great show. Almost better than my favourite, ROE. But, anything I see them doing, it'll be a permanent static install. It's too hard to move things in and out and I don't see them putting in the effort to revamp all the boat network that use to be there (still kinda is). Unlike EPCOT, the boats don't actively run anymore so puting something permanent in won't effect the guest experience.

But, this is again, just my opinion.

Think for yourselfer
With regards to leaving show elements in show position...

I think it's just a matter of changing priorities internally. In the old days, they wouldn't do the show if they couldn't find a way to make it work AT ALL TIMES. Which would mean, not defiling the lake and the views during the day. They would bust tail to get that figured out. And, judging by the amazing experiences those old imagineers left us with, they would have found a way to get it done.

Things aren't like that anymore.

Well, remember that part of the plan is to get more animals that are nocturnal or more active in the dusk/ night periods. So, in theory, the day animals should still get their down time without too much interruption.
