From what i've been told components of Rivers of Light have been testing for well over a year while the park is closed at night. So while this is the first part of construction that you can actually see, they have been working out there on the lagoon for a long time now.

I still think that if they are going to the trouble/expense to build permanent seating, that it would be sad to only use it for a night show (which I'm guessing will typically only run 1 time a day, maybe 2 times during busy days of the year). Why not use that seating also for a day time show on the water (I'm thinking something like a water borne parade of barges)? Even if it is a lower scale than Rivers of Light, it would provide for a bigger entertainment option during the day that would encourage people to spend full days at the park and make up for the loss of MJJ parade.

(FWIW, I think it's stupid that the Fantasmic! theater also sits vacate during daylight hours -- put in, say, a water stunt show during the day and actually use it.)

Disney still produces fantastic nighttime spectaculars and continues to have a stellar track record here. Have faith.

True. The only nighttime spectacle show that was ruined by execs that I can think of is LuminAria in DCA but that was quite a while ago.

The one problem with that is that the bleachers have no shade so the audience would pretty much roast during a daytime show.

I wouldn't say it was ruined by execs, unless you consider its entire existence to be "ruining" it because the execs tried to force them to put a pyro show into a space that wasn't designed for a pyro show...

I will say it has an amazing soundtrack... As much as I love RoE, I could totally see LuminAria as a holiday show at Epcot.

I have always thought that too.

You are describing LMA, right?

I think the real issue is that it would cost a fortune to maintain the Hollywood Hills Amphitheatre for daytime use and that there is a lot of prep work that goes on leading up to the nightly Fantasmic! Plus, it is in a park that already has lots of shows and not enough worthwhile rides.

The issue of not having covering during the day is a very good one, which I hadn't really thought about.

In terms of the point that DHS already has plenty of shows, I was kinda thinking that having a daytime water stunt show at Fantasmic! would be a good substitute if/when LMA goes down to be replaced by another attraction. Both in the short term to maintain capacity and long term to maintain some of the "movie making" aspect of the mark.

Ooh, I like that idea. Maybe a call back to the old water shows during the 30s and 40s, which would fit in perfectly with the area the theater is in.

Water Skiing Chickens:):p:D A perfect fit for Animal Kingdom.
