Oh, I absolutely agree that the monorail is additive to the value of staying at the monorail resorts, but I think it's hard to quantify the value of non-bus transportation. For instance, is WL cheaper because it is boat transportation instead of monorail? Or is it that you have to bus to Epcot? All the MK resorts have to bus to DAK and DHS. The WL doesn't have a view of the fireworks, does it?I don't disagree with you. But I also believe the monorail itself contributes to the premium cost of the monorail resorts. There's not a lot of difference between the luxuriousness of the Contemporary or the Poly compared to Wilderness Lodge. But, because WL is boat only to the MK and bus only to Epcot, it's about half the cost per night compared to Poly, or about 2/3rds that of the Contemporary.
Anyway, it's a fine point and I mostly agree with you. I'm just hoping that the Skyliner is successful and results in a renewed interest by TWDC in providing non-bus transportation to the parks. Disney will build a monorail to DHS and DAK if they can get even more premium pricing from the monorail resorts or if it would drive increased attendance for DHS and DAK. Thinking big, if they could build a business case for building a new set of deluxe monorail resorts and DVCs around an Epcot/DHS/DAK loop, it just might support the billion dollars that a new loop would cost. I am pulling that number out of the air, btw. I am neither sure how much a new monorail loop would cost nor how low of a price would be required for financial viability. The only factor I took into account is the rumored $300 million for the Skyliner.
