New MARVEL attractions to Disney Parks

And the cat is out of the bag with Transformers now open in Hollywood - it's made to be set right down in Spiderman with little fuss.

There are mirrored effects at the same point in both rides - the fire ball, the levitation of the ride vehicles - are in the same exact locations in the timing/story as they are in Spiderman at IOA.

A lot of people when the Spidey "enhancements" were brought about made it out that it was somehow a commitment to Spidey, and that it wouldn't be going anywhere soon. Quite the contrary it seems now, as the upgrades likely just made it that much easier to install Transformers over the existing Spidey infrastructure. It also makes that side comment that one of the Uni people made awhile back about Transformers coming to Orlando - we were all thinking as a new ride - but I have a feeling it's in a mid-term plan already to be placed in Spidey's current home.

Since there are not even any Animatronics at Transformers, I bet they could turn it from Spidey to Transformers in the matter of a month or two, if the new sets are fabricated elsewhere. All the technical/back-end work was probably done as part of the big Spidey refurb earlier this year.

I don't think Spiderman will be there in five years, let's put it that way.

Sorry but no, aside from a few similar scenes the ride layout is entirely different, the biggest difference being that Transformers is on 2 levels, with a high-tech and invisible elevator system being used twice in the attraction.

So Spiderman becoming Transformers, why not, but either with completely different set pieces and layout, or a total rebuilt of the ride.

Proof please.

As if this isn’t complex enough, Universal Studios Hollywood actually had Marvel characters doing “streetmosphere” until January 2008, when they didn’t renew the license. In fact, Marvel wanted an expansion of the brand into the park and pushed for an attraction to be built using their characters, like Islands Of Adventure. But Universal didn’t want to spend the money. Also Marvel wanted more moolah for the licensing agreement renewal, which Universal wanted to cut back. In the end, Universal severed ties with Marvel for the West Coast park, while maintaining an amicable relationship for the Orlando park.

Proof please.

It's well documented. I can't believe you require proof, frankly. It shows how little you have been following the situation and how little effort you put into verifying facts before concocting your wild flights of fancy. But, oh well.

Here, you should probably just read this entire article:

http://jimhillmedia.com/editor_in_c...ing-in-any-of-the-disney-theme-parks-yet.aspx

Regarding the timing of removing Marvel from Universal Studios Hollywood:

California is a somewhat different situation. In that -- just six months prior to Disney's August 2009 decision to acquire Marvel Entertainment for a cash / stock swap worth $4 billion -- Universal Studios Hollywood opted not to renew its contract with Marvel for use of Spider-Man et al as walk-around characters at that theme park.

You seriously don't know anything about Marvel. You should stop talking about it like you do. Or at least read up a little first.

I was talking about merchandising kiosks and not characters. Although just the fact that Uni gave up on Marvel in this instance is revealing IMO. And as others see it -not just me-, possibly a glimpse into the future.

Now that I see your source for "facts" is Jim Hill it helps me better understand your perspective.

I don't have the same problem others have with JHM. I just know to bring my own salt to the table.

How can it be a glimpse into the future when the decision was made before the Disney purchase? Oh right, you like to read into everything even if it makes no sense. :brick:

I don't like to cite Jim Hill as I know he has credibility issues. But the fact is correct. I'm very thankful to GLaDOS for the corroborating link from Deadline as well. Regardless of the source, this is an easily verifiable fact. (Which you didn't bother to verify.) Theser events happened in a certain order and that order disproves whatever deeper meaning you are trying to assign to them.

And yes, lots of other people believe what you believe. And they do so out of ignorance, same as you.

from a business sense..

why shouldn't Disney buy Universal Flordia.. and why not over just a couple of movies.. this would give them control of Marvel and Harry Potter.

and for those of you who don't believe that one or two major movies make a difference.. Disney's Rock is Snow White .. and since 1930's Universal has had Frankenstein and Dracula as their life preservers.. including bailing out the company in the 1950's.. with a re release of the movies..

so litterally just a few movies, can make or break a company. or allow a justification into why you buy your competitors... if the Marvel group is going to continue to produce BIG NUMBERS.. you bring all those dollars home, even if it means buying out the Jones's to do so.. just remember, how many residual ( spel) dollars are involved.. every %5000 percent marked up item sold at the park, Disney wants that in their wallet and not someone' else's.

Well, why should Disney buy USF when they're already getting licensing fees from them on an annual basis, can put Marvel rides and attractions in all of their other parks, and keep taking in the profits from the movies and merchandise?

Plus, buying a park would not guarantee Disney getting rights to Harry Potter, especially when it's been said a WWoHP is going into Universal Hollywood. Let Universal keep running and spending on their parks and Disney will do the same for theirs. Plenty of places for then to put Marvel outside of Florida.

I *think* Transformers could still be pulled off without the elevator… the scenes that use them (Grindor chase and the freefall to Bumblebee) could probably be pulled off while on the same floor, just as the freefall ending to Spidey is. But I still don't see in Spidey out in a matter of a few years. Why'd they just spend all that time and money on the HD upgrades to Spidey then? Or even the recent repaint of Hulk? I can't see "to change Spidey over to Transformers ASAP" as a real excuse.

There are people posting their opinions, then thee is jt who lives in a bubble... A reasonable person would understand what is going on, what has gone on, and would be able to draw the same conclusions 99% of us draw on here.. Then there is the unreasonable JT... And I find it funny that JT of all people ask for proof, when, on many occasions, he has been asked for proof to back up his claims and never was able to produce any...

Got to take jt's posts for what they are, comedy... And there are plenty of members here that ARE jerks... lebeau is NOT one of them...

I've been having this discussion with jt since 2009. I let frustration get the better of me. My apologies to innocent bystanders.

However, I do stand by what I said. Yes, people are stating their opinions. But if their opinion is that there is an Avengers ride being built at Hollywood Studios or that Universal is prepping MSI for a Transformers make-over in 2013, their opinions are ignorant. That's not an insult. These people are just uninformed. (As is jt based on his many inaccurate statements over the years.)

If people come into the conversation uninformed and are open to the facts as they have been documented, that's great. That's how you get informed. But when people refuse to go out and read the contract themselves or even do a Google search to verify a sequence of events that is crucial to their entire theory, well, they are just being ignorant on purpose because the facts don't suit their agenda. And that pushes my buttons.

Again, apologies for coming off like a jerk. This just happens to be a subject I know some things about so the misinformation rankles.

Thanks for the back-up! I sometimes feel jerky. Forums bring out the worst in people. But I definitely try to stay on the "it's all in fun" side of snark and not cross-over into jerk territory.

The billions it would cost to purchase Universal Orlando Resort would be much better spent at the existing facilities.

NP, just too bad there are many jerks around these parts lately...

Anyway, finally going to see Avengers today then will enjoy visiting Marvel in Islands of Adventure, not WDW..

I'm not upset. It's just a waste. We all know what the deal is.

Who is we? No offense, but you don't speak for every poster on this site. I only come here a few times a month and did not see this topic so I appreciate the post. Thanks for the info OP.

The problem with the original post is that it was incredibly vague and will almost certainly fan the flames of misinformation. Yes, Disney has plans to build Marvel-themed attractions at their theme parks. If you post that and only that information on a WDW-themed forum, casual readers are going to jump to the conclussion that Marvel-themed attractions are coming to WDW. But that is not the case.

As soon as I saw the original post I knew this would turn into a monster thread. It's unavoidable whenever the subjects of Marvel or Universal come up. But when the OP is so incredibly vague, you just know things are going to be a little uglier than usual. Next thing you know, Jimmy Thick shows up. And nobody wants that.

Thread was dead until Jimmy Thick showed up, so by all means continue to post away at the seeds I planted.

I gotta pack for my trip to Disney World.

Jimmy Thick-In fact, this thread will still be going on after I get back, sometimes I amaze myself.

I knew I should not have invoked your name...

This thread should have died a quick death. Instead it's 30+ pages of reasonable people trying to explain easily verifiable facts to people who would rather live in a fantasy world. :brick:

Have a good trip all the same.
