At first it will be a handfull of stores in Cali, Chicago, Long Island, Times Square, and lol my store Freehold NJ.

Yes the upkeep conserns me but these stores will be smaller so you never know.

Guess I'm waiting on a store here in Atlanta, eh? Man, I was really hoping for an alternative to the American Girls store, or that bloody Build-A-Bear monstrosity.....:brick:

Long Island? Awesome. We have a few around here, any details on which will be getting the upgrade?

My guess would be Roosevelt Field Mall, they already have a Vacation Club 'store' on I think the second floor which looks like it has a lot of pointless space, maybe its going into part of that location?

We have BuildaBear down here en masse. The first time? It was cute. The 203984th time? It's enough.

In the meantime, I just want maint. to improve in our existing Disney Stores

The adult clothing only sells when it is like 50-75% off so they make no money on it. THe made a little money on the collectibles but the little money they did make was lost due to theft.

Its sad to hear but I guess it kinda true I do perfer to buy the adult stuff on sale but thats just me Im cheap like that :ROFLOL:

I guess the first store we're going to see with all of these cool features is the roosevelt field one, I hear they are currently under renovations:sohappy:

Hey now....i work for Build-a-Bear Workshop!

:lookaroun

Anyhoo....regarding the adult line of merch/shirts at Disney Store...

It probably does not sell well as it leaves a lot to be desired. I mean, when i stop over my local DS and look things over, it is always ALWAYS the kids' shirts that have the BETTER designs! All the really NEAT and FUN stuff is..guess what...kids sizes and intended for the kiddies.

Back in the day, when Disney Store was 'The Disney Store' it was different - the Adult Stuff tended to be equal as far as the coolness factor goes. Now the adult shirts/stuff are a bit drab..and always a bit 'generic' looking with just the basics ( Mickey, Retro Mickey, Pooh-till-you-puke..and Grumpy...zzzz).

So i agree with Tirian here...make the adult stuff more colorful and fun, and watch it fly off the shelf. I'm still waiting for my adult size 'Princess and the Frog' shirt!

Anyone else find it kind of odd that some pretty basic remote lighting and effects are being controlled by a $500 iPad? That seems like some amazing overkill, and a tremendous waste of money.

It's a sad thing, both as a Disney fan, and as a Disney shareholder, to see how far the Disney Store has dropped over the years, both in the quality and breadth of its offerings, and in its profitability. When the store first arrived, it was a destination for many people, and it did very well. I can say that at the time that I worked at the location at the Riverchase Galleria in Birmingham (way back in 1992-1993), it generated the greatest revenue per square foot of any store in the mall, and at that time the mall was one of the largest in the Southeast. We sold lots of children stuff, of course, but we also sold lots of collectibles, adult clothing of all kinds, and had a nice collection of books and music. Even then, the bloom was fading from the rose, though. I remember talking to a regional manager soon before I left, who pointedly explained that the stories were not the theme parks, and we shouldn't expect the stores to provide "magic." And now look where we are...

Sounds great.. but what about the merchandise? Any idea what will be actually sold in these stores? Will it be disney park quality merchandise like stuff in World Of Disney or cheap childrens place style stuff like they had the past few years. Any Adult stuff or just toddlers? Any actual park merchandise or pins etc?

I just want our Disney Stores to stop closing... Don't know where in South Florida you are, but my Disney Store (Broward Mall) is closing in the next week. :(

That's one of three stores that I consider 'local' to me ... was in there last week and honestly there was nothing I wanted other than an Art of Meet The Robinsons book that was $2.24 from $18 ... and it wasn't a 'must have' or I would have bought it three years ago!

So sad as that store replaced one across the street at the defunct Fashion Mall that was one of the first 10 Disney Stores in the world ... and a place I spent countless days (and dollars) in back in the late 80s/early 90s when it was full of high quality merchandise for all ages and budgets.

The Broward Mall location was nice when it first opened, but generally became a dirty mess of kids' crap. But its first few years had a small Gallery section, including large WDCC displays and cels/lithos etc.

The new stores don't sound exciting to me at all.

LEDs?!?? WOO-HOO!!! You don't see them anywhere/everywhere in 2010! And the same freaking characters in the mirrors that you'll be seeing at WDW and DL resort rooms and parks soon?

Wow.

Seriously, if this is the direction Disney believes will save the chain, I think they should just shut them all down.

Don't bother going into Miromar Outlet's "Character Warehouse" where you can get some nice pins and unique merchandise to the store and parks... because they seriously had nothing.

When I walked in they said "Oh, sorry. We haven't gotten any new pins. We're trying to sell the ones we have." and the store was a complete cluster- yea, you get my point. Why didn't they close these stores instead of the Disney Stores?

Wow. Sounds very impressive.

Are they going to be updating current stores to have this? And it's certainly going to to take a lot of Maintenance and upkeep- something Disney Stores in recent years have slipped on. The majority of the ones in Miami are VERY messy.

I would figure the way the stores would be maintained is like apple does theirs... randomly closing for a few days during a time of the year that's not October through December

Also they probably wont do what they did in the 90s and have 5 malls in a metro have a Disney store each... downsizing it to 1, 2 at most, would ,make help... esp in a metro that's close to Disney in the first place.

Aw, that's a shame. :( You do have that great collectable's shop, though...Got a few Disney Figs from there over the years!

I'm in South Broward, so we still have a few...and we still have the WDW Outlets at Sawgrass and Dolphin. Love those.

I hope it comes to SWFL!

If it's coming to your store in NJ, why wouldn't it come to FLA?

It is all about the Market my store was in the Freehold Raceway mall which is trending towards upscale. The area near it is very upscale.

As far as Florida goes if you live within 200 miles of WDW I wouldn't hold your breath on one opening anytime soon
