It’s a relatively quick, simple and "cheap" option to address a problem that arose from a desire to connect POP and CBR to Epcot.
Haha.
I love the use of “cheap”...

I wonder how much a ski resort pays for one of these things...?

I cannot imagine it costing as much as Disney is paying... they’d never recoup their investment...

The highest hard number I can find for a ski resort installation (besides Peak2Peak) is $15m for Killington's Skyeship. Peak2Peak was over $50m CAD.

According to whats been said previously, this is somehow costing Disney in the hundreds of millions.

That’s an interesting point - I have been wondering that as well. The existing placement of the Eiffel Tower is designed to create the proper illusion from a more limited perspective than it will in future it would seem. I assume the imagineers are on top of that. When something new is added to WDW I really enjoy my first walk through of the new thing to see how they addressed those kinds of challenges.

I do hope that the Eiffel Tower is reimagined, to be greater in scale, because it seems dwarfed by the support tower. Also, I wonder how visible it will be from other pavilions within World Showcase.

At a minimum doubling its size ( assuming the roof could support a wider / taller version )

Maybe it could be moved to the new ratatouille roof?

In the end I’m not holding my breathe

I believe that no matter which direction it is view from, it is suppose to look to be in the distance. I have faith that is what will be the case when it is all done. I also believe that it has been stated the Gondolas are just minimally, if at all, visible from inside the parks.

I think the cost is going to be in the stations as opposed to the actual system. They are buying the system from a 3rd party.
