The monorail and the Polynesian were designed at the same time.
The application works in cohesion.

Yes, I know that there are gondola's in the actual Caribbean.
But here, at this resort (not the real Caribbean) the system runs low and right above the footpaths and beaches.
I don't think it'll be terrible from the other side of the water, but I wouldn't want to stay on the side that they are on.
I think it’s a stretch to say that the monorail works better at the Polynesian regardless of when they were designed. If it weren’t for nostalgic acceptance there would be no cohesion.

I completely understand not wanting to stay near or under the gondolas for a variety of reasons, but them being out of theme for a Caribbean resort shouldn’t be one of them.

Hmmm... that first photo looks strangely familiar, as if I'd been there recently... ;)

It’s not that they’re out of theme, but they way they were just sort of plopped down. Some towers fall right next to buildings instead of being well sighted between them to created a look of intentionality and not just ease of placement. Another example is the Hourglass Lake station where there is this giant rectangle slammed into the curves of Generation Gap Bridge.

Absolutely. The execution is in many ways lacking. Like the tower that’s an inch in front of the Friendship dock canopy at IG.

Although that being said there’s not much intentionality and thoughtful design around most of the real Caribbean either.

I totally rejected the thought that you were thinking buses would be driving between the shelter & the lagoon. :)
haha thanks for giving me benefit of the doubt... if at least just a little lol

That being said, beer and posting on forums doesn’t mix!

One thing I meant to mention in my original post (as things are coming back to me now!) is just how amazingly quiet it is. I’m not just talking about moving overhead but even the doors opening and closing and coming and going out of the station is nearly silent. Very impressive to watch and listen.

Well I have officially recovered from my near death experience and am currently riding the new gondola at Whistler Blackcomb. I have it all to myself which is sure to be a rare occurrence at Disney.

I've had buses to myself, or with just a handful of poeple, going between Pop and DHS when you're not traveling during the peak times. With a greater throughput and smaller 'vehicles', riding the gondolas solo or with just your party is going to be the norm.

I timed the interval at about 9.8 seconds. Approximately 3,670 passengers per hour at that speed. Looks like about 5 m/s. Hopefully she can go even faster. D-Line stated max is 7 but that may only be possible on lifts with bigger spacing or faster terminals (i.e. chairlifts)
Speed is indeed 11 mph on the runs. Wait times are aiming for worst case five minutes-ish. Longest travel time on a single line is around 15 minutes.

Asthetics aside it should beat all existing comparable transport methods by a good margin.

Doppelmayr has every incentive to get this project delivered as soon as possible. They've now sold at least 14 more lifts in North America for next winter.
I am assuming that Doppelmayr is supplying all the parts for the lifts and expertise but that construction, especially of the stations, is a separate contractor? Do you think Doppelmayr actually hired the contractor?

The first photo looks similar to the Caribbean Beach application, but doesn't show if the gondola's run right along and over the beaches.
If they do - I wouldn't like that area either.
As for the second image the cruise ships alone ruin it for me.

But if Disney wants to wait until people can get off at the Riviera station to allow guests on that or any line, they can still hold to the "Fall" timeline, right? That isn't to say it would be prudent to do so, but they could hold off using the thing until the stars align in the right way

The run parallel to some beaches.

Completely understandable to not like them. But doesn’t mean they are out of place for a Caribbean themed venue.

Yes. Walk through there quite a bit :). I was speaking to the other end of that bus depot. They added a bit of concrete towards the water to keep the path wide due to the fence but it just seemed tight for a bus to also go through. Sorry about the small thumbnails above but it’s the one the starts with BA2. I’m probably over thinking. Just curious ;-).
I think the bit of extra concrete on the right of the sidewalk is just there to keep the sidewalk the same width while the construction fencing is up. I expect once the fencing comes down, they will remove that bit of concrete and you would not even know it used to be there.

The bus will travel on the road at the lower side of the red oval. your BA2 pic is the on the opposite side of the construction wall in the red oval.

The first one runs over forest, at Mystic Mountain. It also offers a spectacular view of the beach and water.
