The more established you are, the more weight you carry.

Are you talking about the points you give or the points you have? I was talking about the former. When you add to somebody's reputation, it should go up by a few points. If it doesn't, then I don't understand the system as well as I thought it did.

The points that have been given me, I only have 35, while there are others that have 200 or more. :)

Ahh. What I meant was, when you give someone ELSE reputation points, their count should go up a great deal, because, as you say, you've been here for a long time.

When a newer person gives rep points, the other person's count will only go up by a couple.

Yes, Woody asked Steve for the negative points.

One question, though - is there a way to see a list of reputations that you've gotten? I know at least on the other board I'm on, when you add to someone's reputation you can enter a reason, and it's kind of nice to look at that and see what other people think you are doing well or not well - that way you know how to improve in the future. If that makes sense at all! :p

Good question. Someone gave me a negative vote for starting a thread ("When Darkness Falls") in which I just asked for some help with central Florida weather stuff. It was in the appropriate section. The person probably just didn't find it interesting, but I should be able to know what the deal is.

I gave you a positive point in response. Hope it helps. Sometimes there's no rhyme or reason why people give negative points.

The person who gives or takes points is anonymous unless they decide to sign their name. You can view the thread and post that got you points (or caused them to be taken away) by going to your UserCP...its on the right hand side.

For me, a person's point count carries less weight than how they conduct themselves and the type & quality of their posts...we all have different personalities & styles. My sense of humor may not match yours, but that doesn't make either of us a bad person.

Just be yourself, post about what interests you. Answer questions honestly & to the best of your ability. If you have a problem with someone deal with it one on one thru PMs or Ims not on the boards.

Gee, thanks. It's mutual. :animwink:

I was thinking about the fact that, in general, folks tend to be more likely to be negative than positive, like writing complaint letters more than 'good job' letters, etc. Then I remembered that the folks here are so nice, in general, that it's a different situation. I've probably given out 40 good points, and 0 bad ones, and I think most folks here are like that. Plus, there aren't many folks here who would be likely to conduct themselves poorly anyway.

Cheers.
