New Disneyland Parking Garage and Transportation Hub

Just like what Universal did with its new mega parking structure, have guests walk through a themed walkway and CityWalk. The same plan as with Pummba, to deal with the large rush periods, we are looking at needing over 20,000 people a hour capacity for both M&F and Pinocchio. Not possible.

Good example but it's still Disney we re talking about. It's just hard for me to believe they retire the trams and make everyone walk. What if they doubled the trams and created a new load/ unload area? Not sure where the new unload could go.

The distance from the parking structures and the gate at Universal is around 800 ft and is completely enclosed by City Walk. The distance from Mickey and Friends to the Esplanade is over twice that distance and most of it is a plain walkway.

You're thinking of the M&Fs of today, not the M&F+New Parking+New DTD enclosure of the future.

Those Harbor businesses must feel pretty dumb about now as Mickey gives them the cold shoulder.

Tlhey essentially got what they wanted - no bridge over Harbor, and continued easy pedestrian access to/from DLR and their businesses. The spokesperson from the local business association representing the merchandts has gone on record to say they are pleased with Disney's decision. I'm thinking they're pretty happy with this outcome.

They're happy with it right now, until Harbor entrance is closed off and they start to lose business. These businesses and the City Council were so short sighted.

The walk from the middle of the new E.T. Parking structure to the start of the Security check is .42 of a mile, or over 2200 feet

Everything at Disney is subject to change, and no matter what is in some pretty press release, in reality, it will be cut out when the final blueprints are drawn and volume studies are done.

Exactly, the trams barely handle the capacity now (in reality they don't as there are times guests wait long periods of times). I just imagine the onslaught of new guests from the new parking structure. Its going to be a mess in the tram area.

The two things people shouldn't have to wait for are parking and trams. Hopefully they improve both enough to help streamline the experience.

Is it possible Disney stops using the lot (I think it's the Toy Story one, but I never park there so I don't know) on the East side for guest parking, and makes it CM only?

while that is definitely a good point and valid forecasting, i was just alerting any who'd care that trams had been specifically mentioned... apologies if that had been mentioned before, i didn't see it

Utter and complete disaster. I see no way that Ball Road traffic will improve in any way.

They're simply holding Anaheim hostage. I didn't see any way they could inflict more pain than building the Pumbaa lot parking structure with no transportation or pedestrian overpass. I failed because I underestimated Disney's ability to be complete and utter jerk holes.

This will not end well.

It should be fun leaving Disneyland on a Friday night once this new structure opens. I really open road improvements are also part of the plan.

That is up to the city, and other governmental agencies. Disney has nothing to do with public roads, and since all the new projects are on current Master Plan property, they can't ask Disney to help pay for them.

But improvements on Ball Road will be sorely needed, as will the on/off ramp area on Disneyland Drive at the I-5.

I half expect them to close up the Harbor entrance in the not too distant future after the new hotel is finished to make a complete security bubble.

So if Disney can suck up enough of the business away from the Harbor properties then it'll be a death blow for them.

I imagine this would render them quite suggestible, sounds like a great negotiating tactic to me.

That's for sure. The can just got kicked further down the road.

What can? A new parking structure is still being built with almost the same amount of spaces as the Eastern Gateway project. So I don't see this as kicking the can. I see it as them taking the can and doing something different than was originally planned but may end up being better in the long run.

Could a continuous automated PeopleMover do the trick?

It could, but would Disney be willing to spend the capital on it? I just don't know, but since it wasn't part of the Eastern Gateway project, I doubt it'll be part of this project. With the new hotel/shopping district they are making its likely they'll want the foot traffic instead.
