Be careful what you wish for.

Businesses on Harbor Boulevard near Disneyland in Anaheim might learn a hard lesson, as Disney confirmed that it will abandon the Eastern Gateway project that so many of them fought. Far from providing a win for the Harbor Boulevard community, Disney’s decision to turn away from its eastern face might become the death blow for some businesses on that street.<<

You think so? With Disneys current track record, I would think breaking ground now means a 2020 /2021 opening.

It depends on how immersive Phase One will be. Now that they can't build out the expansion area (for now) they may go minimal immersion for Phase One with just the coaster. Also since there isn't much to be demo'd its not like they have to do much to prepare. So a two year construction cycle isn't out of the question for Phase One.

Would you include the Spider-Man attraction/ Bugs Land demo as part of Phase 1 or just the Coaster?

I don't see how it can be a death blow so long as that Harbor Blvd entrance stays open. Am I missing something?

Let me also state, the M&F Trams will head to Yesterland, they can't handle the rush periods now, no way can it double its capacity. Expect to see Downtown Disney expand in the current Unload area, and then themed walkways and security check area can go in the actual roadway. A built in way to avoid pedestrians to cross Disneyland Drive. So guests can use the current tram route to walk, or head south from the new structure to a revised security check area near the current one next to the DLH.

That's quite the walk. Especially after a long day in the parks. Had to park in the Simba (?) lot once and walk to the gates from there and it was miserable when going back to the car.

Not good with these things but I would imagine it's still a net gain of about 5900 spaces. Are there more than 500 parking spaces on the Pinocchio lot?

If you're building on top of a parking lot, wouldn't those 500 spaces on the ground floor remain?

I half expect them to close up the Harbor entrance in the not too distant future after the new hotel is finished to make a complete security bubble.

So if Disney can suck up enough of the business away from the Harbor properties then it'll be a death blow for them.

So no trams at all? That's not a very magical way to start your day.

Lol. Can't they just break ground now??

Leases take time to break, the Holidays are a peak time, so if you start to empty out the buildings in early 2018, as some items are reusable, plus current code requires some dangerous materials to be removed before demolition. Plus temporary walkways and security checks will have to be added for the west side Hotels and those parking in Simba.

So while the city doesn't have to approve the project, it still has to meet current building codes.

Sorry I meant break ground on Marvel land.

Absolutely. I feel dumb. But it's 4pm and I'm multitasking.

Just like what Universal did with its new mega parking structure, have guests walk through a themed walkway and CityWalk. The same plan as with Pummba, to deal with the large rush periods, we are looking at needing over 20,000 people a hour capacity for both M&F and Pinocchio. Not possible.
