NASCAR in WDW? It Can’t Get Any Better Than This-A February 2012 Unexpected Trip…Report!

Intro:
Welcome everyone to this unexpected trip report!!! As you may have read in my pre-trip report, this trip was made 11 days prior to leaving due to me getting an interview for a job down in Walt Disney World!!! It was for a part-time attraction job, but I’ll get into more details when we get to that part of the trip.

So here are the details:

The cast:
Me and my mum Diane (LuvsTheMouse). This is a picture from our Sept/Oct 2011 Trip

We are both Disney lovers and our 14th trip together! And Mom’s 15th she went once when she was a kid.

The dates: January 31-February 4, 2012

The resort: Port Orleans French Quarter

I know!! I have been MIA for some time and it went so fast I didn't even realize, but I am so glad to be back!

Hopefully there is some sort of deal for November, I would love to stay at POFQ but we may rent DVC points, not sure yet.

How did you end up with a bounce back rate?? When I was there in September I wasn't able to get one!

Bob is definitely a hoot! And I actually just realized last night it was called the Yeehaw Bob show...whoops. But I highly recommend if you have a free night definitely go check him out!!! He plays until midnight.

Friday February 3-Last Day

Today was our last day in Walt Disney World. Always a sad day, no matter how short or long you stay

We woke up around 8 am today, and decided to head over to Riverside for breakfast, and see what options they had over there!

I’m so excited to be staying at Riverside for the 10-miler in September! It’s just as beautiful as French Quarter, only a little bit bigger, which might get confusing with the bus system, but we’ll see how that goes when it happens.

I decided I was very hungry this morning and wanted to be a pig. So I had a big Mickey waffle with bacon and a cinnamon bun! Mom had a Mickey Waffle as well and a piece of the bun.

Overall, Riverside had a much bigger selection of food at their food court, but nothing incredibly different from French Quarter, it was noticeably more crowded than FQ as well.

We walked back over to POFQ (needed to burn off that food!) and bumped into some friends along the way

Something good must have been in the ground for breakfast! Maybe I should have eaten with them!

Today we were on a mission to find the Prince Charming shirt “Sorry girls I’m taken” for my boyfriend for Valentine’s Day. We looked in the POR gift shop and they didn’t have it, but low and behold we looked in the shop at POFQ and there it was!!!!! I gave it to him for Valentine’s last week and he loved it!!! He was so excited because he thought he looked like Prince Charming! I was really glad he loved it!!!!

After the giftshop we headed back towards our room for a bit before heading to DTD!

Our view again, unfortunately today was a cloudy day

On the way to DTD! This boat looked a little bit lopsided.

According to the boat driver, this bird has been in the same spot for four days…and it was true he was there every time we took the boat!

He was definitely warning us not to enter!

Our first stop was a stroll through Goofy’s Candy Co. where we ran into none other than Mr. and Mrs. Hollybelle! It was nice to talk to them for a little bit again!

Our next adventure was trading the other vinylmation I had to trade. I started out with Bullseye from the Toy Story series. There is nothing wrong with bullseye, but I had my heart set on finding my favorite: Wheezy. We went into multiple places, and here is a series of vinyls we ended up with after each trade.

Our next hope was the Art of Disney Store…they had the biggest mystery box with 24 slots…will it deliver again today as it did yesterday???? Well once we got there, low and behold in the open box was………

WHEEZY!!!!! That store was definitely good luck for me on this trip :sohappy:

Next we took a walk back down to West Side back to D-street, I wanted to try my hand at another Park 7 vinyl because there was a few others I wanted from that series.

It ended up being the Star Blaster (?) vinyl, correct me if I’m wrong please. I decided to go back in and start trading. Well, turns out the number I picked..lucky number 7…was one of the Park 7 vinyls I wanted! The Muppet Balloon!

We headed back towards the Marketplace because we had an hour or so until it was time for our ADR at Ragland Road!

The one place I wanted to go when I turned 21…unfortunately it closed right before I did

We went into the World of Disney where I bought a WDW sticker for my new car and a Port Orleans pin for our stay! I also forgot to mention on the previous day, I bought a few books to add to my Disney book collection:

We sat and people watched for a little while at the tables across from Ghirardelli where we made friends with these lil fellas..they came so close!

Before we knew it, it was time to head off to Ragland Road!

Here is the bread they give you…I forgot what it’s called! It was alright, I wasn’t a huge fan of it.

We both had the Fish and Chips. These were delicious!

I highly recommend going there if you love some good ol’ fish and chips!!!!!
We decided we were done with DTD for this trip, so it was back to the resort.

We decided to go monorail resort hopping for a little while to see what was in the shops…I was also looking for the runDisney in training shirt…but they were not out when I was there……

We got back to POFQ around 6ish and took some pictures before it got really dark again

After resting for a little while, it was time to head over to Riverside to the River Roost Lounge for some drinks and more of the famous Yeehaw Bob!!!

We made sure we had John as our bartender again, because he was seriously the best. He was funny, we chatted with him for a while and we can’t wait to see him again!!

I am so mad that we forgot to take a picture of the TOTALLY AMAZING nachos we had, and the drinks we had. I had some lemonade drink that had vodka and other various alcoholic beverages in it, and Mom had a frozen Strawberry Daiquiri.

Bob also remembered us from the night before!!!! Jessica from Massachusetts and her sister Diane! haha

We called it a night after Bob’s second show because we needed to get up super early to catch DME at 6:10.

We said our goodbyes and got back to our room shortly after 10 and hit the sack

Saturday February 4-Departure Morning

We were up super early at 5:20 and it wasn’t even light out yet!!!

We were super sad to leave our beautiful room, but we’ll be back!

Headed over to the DUn-ME stop

Surprisingly we weren’t the only people waiting, and when we got on the bus we took our sad leaving day pictures

We made quite a few other stops, POR, Saratoga, and Old Key West. We also went out of the Walt Disney World Resort area by a different way…I never realized that there was a back way out near DTD with another sign, of course not as elaborate as the one we always go under on the way in.

We got to the airport no problems, and grabbed some breakfast. Did you know there were people drinking at 8 am?? Crazy.

Before we knew it, we were back home by noon.

The trip definitely went by so fast, couldn’t believe it was all over and we had so much fun with only 1 day in the parks and 3 days in WDW. I think that was the shortest trip we’ve ever taken, but definitely worth every penny. The interview was definitely an experience and I would do it all over again.

Final Thoughts

If any of you are considering a stay at a moderate resort, I would definitely recommend Port Orleans. French Quarter is beautiful! The food court is a little small, but it is okay, because for us it was never crowded. It was a very quiet resort and the boat to DTD is definitely a plus! I couldn’t tell you about the pool, I never used it, but it was pretty big and looked inviting!

We waited a little bit for the buses at POFQ, but I think we just had bad timing every time. The wait wasn't bad anyways.

The one day we were in the park, it was hardly crowded. Nice time of the year to go.

I can’t wait to get back to Walt Disney World!

The interview stuff was really interesting! I applied back in '10 but if I'd gotten the job they would have wanted me to start work when I'd have been on my trip with the girls... no go! Hopefully you get good news - though didn't you just snag a "real person" job?

SO MUCH TOWER LOVE. Just way too upsetting that I wasn't there.. fam heads out in 5 days, and you know that Carly is not going to be nice about how much fun she had on my Tower.
