Mystery Project at Epcot

Don't forget that Tim Cook (Apple's CEO) is chairman. Cook promotes creativity and innovation. Creatives also now own the majority of the stock (Jobs Family Trust and George Lucas), so I see new creatives being elected to the Board. Staggs shouldn't have a problem. Iger hasn't been so friendly to the creative element of the company.

Edit - I see Lucas promoting Kennedy, so Kennedy may have a better chance than Staggs. I'm not sure who the Jobs Family Trust or Eisner would promote. Eisner might go with Kennedy, since she's from film.
I don't see Tim Cook anywhere on the board; Iger is Chairman.

I'd be very optimistic about Kathleen Kennedy as CEO. I think to be as successful financially and well-liked by creative talent as she is, she must be able to balance the creative and financial sides of things pretty well. The only thing I worry about is taking her from something that we know she's good at (producing movies), and throwing her into the crazy world of a CEO of a multi-multi-billion dollar company. It's the same thing I would worry about with Lasseter, although Kennedy has been running Lucasfilm.

I do find it interesting that complaints about short-term thinking and a lack of creativity made it into a major publication like Variety, though. I thought it was just us fanboys who worried about that stuff.

Innoventions could be much better if they bothered to actually show a lot of constantly changing exhibits of truly cutting edge tech. Kind of like a year-round CES I suppose wouldn't be a bad start. The problem is that they don't change things around much and don't bother to show really major new ideas or products. The idea is there, the execution and lack of commitment to continually update things there is what sucks about it.

Either way, I don't think plopping in a roller coaster in future world to replace something else there would really help EPCOT regain any cohesive theme. I think it would just be replacing crap with even more crap. For Innoventions to be better, they either need to go all the way with an exhibit that shows cutting edge tech or create a new area that does. Putting a roller coaster there to me just provides even more proof on top of the already mountainous pile of evidence that Disney either doesn't know or doesn't care (or doesn't want to care) about what EPCOT's purpose is.
Yes something demonstrating cutting edge tech would be great I wish EPCOT could get a Stark Expo. Since they can not use Marvel at WDW. Why not them it the World's Fair. After all Walt loved to show off his innovations there!

The original Future World was very green, with ponds and trees in the plaza behind SSE.
This plan involves all of Future World being green.

I was going to do a photoshop of this, but I was too lazy, so I didn't.

Unfortunately, I think Disney has at least found a temporary purpose. Festivals and food. While AK is a half-day park for guest who are only interested in rushing to the next ride and DHS is sorely lacking family attractions, Epcot's attendance is below it's original capacity, but is still the 2nd most visited park. Disney seems to be content to let Epcot plod along (unless the sponsor what a redesign) and live off the few attractions and great food while festivals provide temporary attendance boosts.

As someone who worked at Epcot in 91', I know how great Epcot used to be. I rode WOM and Horizons dozens of times and miss them still. What they've done to Imagination is unforgivable. We all know the many problems of Epcot. However, right now I think they are going to focus on DHS(Radiator Spring Racers) and AK(Pandora). I hope they are realizing what Carsland has done in CA and are still in the mood for spending some cash (I'm talking 500k) to improve this truly one of a kind park once all the other parks get their needed attention. MK is similar to DL, DHS is similar to Universal Studios, AK is similar to Busch Gardens. Not better, but similar. Epcot is similar to what? It someone can think of something permanent (not a World's Fair) that is close, please reply.
I know Epcot can be great again! I agree that a roller coaster running in front of the Land is not the answer. I am not going to pretend that I can think up something better than the imagineers, so I won't even try, but I really hope they are trying to find ways to fixed this unique park and once the money is available, we get to see their plans come to life.

I think Futuroscope in France has a similar theme to Future World and Europapark in Germany copies the idea of the World Showcase, but only with European countries. Actually Europapark has some future theme going on as well, they even copied Spaceship Earth (there is a coaster inside).

Futuroscope would be the closest I have seen to Future World, but no World Showcase element. Europa Park really has to many outdoor coasters to give me that Epcot vibe, plus they throw in Fantasy element mix with viking ships and other smaller MK type rides.

But I do see your point. Since I have not been to any parks oversee yet, in my small world thinking I excluded most of the world and was thinking in the continental 48. Thanks for writing back it gave me something to think about.

A Newer Hope!

According to the above article, Tom Staggs is the top candidate right now to take on the top job as CEO when Iger resigns in 2015.

He is the one who decided that FLE needed a Snow White Mine Coaster and that Hyperion Warf needed to be replaced by a much more massive project called Disney Springs.

Imagine what he would green light for WDW if he's elected CEO!

The article also says Kathleen Kennedy is also in the running. Both would be great!

The question is, how would Kennedy handle the theme park side since all her professional experience is on the movie production side.

Tim Cook is not on Disney's board, but Iger is on Apple's.
