2015 - New Attraction - Rumor - (3/22/13) In a new interview on the Season Pass Podcast with Disney Parks Dir. Jerry Rees, he mentions a new mystery project is in the works for Epcot that will open in 2015. I’ve yet to hear anything solid on what this could be just yet, but I’ll make a couple of guesses.
I’ll be surprised if they are working on any new ride or major attraction in World Showcase, so lets leave that half of the park out for now. There are two obvious points that should be address in Future World at the moment however... either a new attraction to replace Captain EO once and for all (which is always a benefit, as they can clone it out to the other Disney parks who also have the same need), or to finally put something new into the old Wonders of Life pavilion. It’s got to drive Disney management crazy to have a big pavilion like that just sitting there empty, along with the fact that it was once home to a couple of popular attractions: Cranium Command and the Body Wars simulator ride. Since Body Wars was based on the Star Tours hardware, I’d love to see it get upgraded and put to use again as well... assuming any of the cabins are still in there and weren’t scrapped for parts long ago. As a third guess... I’d throw a much needed upgrade or transformation at the Universe of Ellen...err... Universe of Energy into the mix as a possible concept too. Anyone else know more?
I would wager WoL. UoE isn't needed as badly and can be updated with a small budget. I'm still expected a UoE update soon, but I don't think this one is it, considering Rees' enormous talents would be better spent on something bigger and more innovative.

My guess is once he concludes doing press work for MM, he'll update his site to include the mystery project for EPCOT. That's what he said in his Season Pass podcast he would do. Like @PeterAlt said, that should mean he's working on the details behind the scenes.

I just saw the MM video and the first thing I thought of as I watched it was how the lightning effects reminding me of the lightning effects that was to shoot out of Neptune's fingers in the original concept art for Living Seas that wasn't built. Maybe this is the mystery project. A Living Seas redo with the Neptune lightning effects and all the other cool effects cut from the ride compared to the concept art added back in?

educated guess would be UofE or Imagination Pavilion redo

desired guess would be both with a side of WofL pavilion or maybe a sprinkle of Innovations

Seas aint going anywhere.

Educated guess would be Imagination or Energy.

Martin, would this be a new Imagination ride or just the Magic Eye theater side, which seems to fit Mr Rees expertise?
Of course I could see the MM approach to Imagination with trackless vehicles and a mix of physical sets, AA's and screens. If that were the case he could be used in the same way as he was for mystic manor.
I know it is just an educated guess, but a lot of your educated guessed are better than some peoples "facts" on a lot of boards. Any additional thoughts would be appriciated.
BYW, I am a big fan of your videos. I have watched them all and I want to thank you for all your time and effort!

^ thank you :)

I know Energy is on the refurb radar, but I believe Life isn't unless it's sponsored. I also know the powers that be are well aware of feelings about Imagination, both in and out of the company. EO can't last forever, there are proposals (amongst many) to use the theatre space for other things. If these, or anything else, come to fruition only time will tell at the moment. Imagination 4 has been on/off for a good 4-5 years now.

WoL, or the gold-domed area - might be great for festivals... But the rest of it (which is rather huge) is a tremendous waste of prime park real estate. To not do something (anything!) with it going forward would be grounds for a flogging.

Thanks Martin!

I wouldn't mind getting rid of the whole 3D film space if it is used to increase the ride length for the Imagination ride. The 40% track cut during the redo really made me sad. While the "4D effects" raise these movies above standard movie theater 3D, they are still basically 3D movies and WDW has their fair share.

Would the Energy rehab plans still be along the lines of the T3 show at Universal with the diorama being what is was like AFTER the dinosaur became extinct? I think that is what's Martin described long, long ago. Does anyone else remember this?

The big building behind the dome is VIP meeting space. VERY VIP. The biggest of big wigs have meetings and presentations up on the third floor.

MYSTIC MANOR .....could.....work in the UK pavilion. Wacky UK/ British collector's London estate. New facade and themed queue / lobby area but with a nearly identical ride. Ala the DL/WDW HM set up. Nearly exact ride drastic exterior differences to fit the different lands. Show building could fit where World ShowPlace is.

Other things as Meet and Greets or Banquets? Or update the area with exhibits, new film?

So? That's what the OFFICES are for. That's not MY problem, as a park guest that's paid money to be entertained.

Lose the snark. It's really unnecessary. I'm not the one making the decisions. I just thought I'd share what I consider useful information for people who might not know. Regardless, there's a severe lack of meeting space at WDW for large groups. In fact, an event at the Swan and Dolphin has to hold a meal at Universal Studios this week because Disney Conventions is unable to accommodate them. The Company has lost major clients in the last year because there just isn't enough conference space to meet demand, especially areas with the A/V capabilities of Wonders of Life.

If you're not entertained by the park offerings, KEEP your money.

I can do that - and will.
