My magic+ testing report

Seeing it in action this past weekend did no impress me one bit. I am very against "planning your rides" so far in advance. Disney did a test over this weekend...and it ALMOST rained...like all day..I was hoping that it would to see how this system handles a FP+ person who is scheduled for TT (a ride that closes in the rain). Oh well..we will all see how much of a cluster this system is when its rolled out for everybody. Personally..I see a train wreck coming. TOO many people won't understand how it works, and those of us who are more "Play it by ear" are going to be GREATLY put off by the now inevitable super long stand by lines for everything.

I still want 1 fast pass in advance and then "unlimited" day of. The alternative would be 3 in advance for deluxe, 2 for moderate, 1 for value

I like this idea...I would even go a step further and say that AP holders and DVC members should get a 4th or 5th FP+ per day. Great incentive for people to purchase the AP and DVC.

So it's 3 FP+ per park per day? I don't see anything wrong with that. Everyone was talking like you got 3 FP+ a day and that was it.
The official terms and conditions includes the following:
  • You may make FastPass+ selections for one park per day. You may only select and use a FastPass+ selection for a particular attraction, entertainment or restaurant experience once per day.

I sometimes don't decide to go to Disney till the last minute. I live 3 hours away and sometimes decide that day to go to Disney and stay on property for few days. I do not own a smart phone and if they do away with the old fastpass I will be screwed and have to wait in long lines. This is not a good option since my husband can not stand for long periods! A GAC pass may or may not help. I have an annual pass but may not be renewing.

I don't think I fully understand this system...

So eventually there will be no "Day of" Fastpasses anymore?

When you check in at your hotel...you pick them then...or earlier at home...but not available once you hit the parks?

What about non-resort guests? Do they have to choose from home prior to visiting?

There will be day of FPs but no paper tickets. Also we don't know if they will be holding back some good E ticket FPs for day of guests or they will be stuck with leftovers.

Three FPs per day does seem like a small number, but I have to be honest and say that the thought of lazy people loading up any more than that from their computer at home and then skipping ahead of me in line when I got there at park open, kind of es me off.

So, conflicting reports here:
Magic Band usage means you can only use your 3 FP+ reservations per day or you could also use your Keys to the World Card to get paper Fastpasses. Which is it? If you used KttWC did you need to check into the park with both your Magic Band and your KttWC?

If what @ParentsOf4 is saying comes to be the norm over the next few years, people who use that strategy may actually be able to CUT days from their Disney vacation even further, as they'd be getting attractions and half day parks done in a much timelier manner. If that actually comes to be true, that would make that component of NexGen an ENORMOUS flop.

Well for clarification, it seems like a small # for the Magic Kingdom. It seems about right for the other parks (3-4).

Unless they've coded the strip on the KttWC to be "active" in the parks already, they technically wouldn't be able to get paper FP.

Indeed. Get to MK an hour early so you can ride the tram to the TTR, then take the monorail over to the gates. Then stampede with the herd down Main Street so that you can get to your favorite ride first and BOOM! There is already a 30 minute wait because people booked FPs. I haven't taken the time to read all of the literature on how the program will work, but somebody please tell me that the earliest FP return will be available will be like 10:00AM or an hour after a park opens.

Seems like for this test period it is both. I wouldn't expect them to do that for the final rollout.

For this current test is it 3 FP+ and as many paper FP as you can manage. Once FP+ comes online, regular FP will be decommissioned. At that point it is not clear what the FP+ policy will be. I would expect it is still to be determined.

I think Disney is looking at this the wrong way.
They are saying that the average guest uses 3 FPs a day. Which is most likely why they decided on that number.

The problem they are overlooking is that the average guest uses 3 FPs on the same attractions (for the majority).

Now they are grouping them so you can't use FP on all three of those attractions in a park and people will be a lot worse off than they were when it was unlimited.

I think they are looking to distribute guests more evenly across the park, not make it so everyone gets what they want.
