The lines for TSM are a symptom of a problem with the park it is in. DHS lacks rides. Specifically, it lacks rides without height restrictions. You could put a merry-go-round in DHS and it would have insane waits because families have little to do in that park.
There are only 4 attractions with height restrictions. There are at least 8 attractions w/o height restrictions. I don't think height restrictions is an issue, if anything make more height restrictions and keep the kiddies out :lookaroun

The park is stale and needs to be refreshed. and that Johnny Depp walkthrough doesn't count.

Nope, we're definitely talking about different things. I was not referring to people using iPads to record on rides, or record fireworks or anything related to the LCD light being used. I was referring to people simply using an iPad to take pictures. Two different things.

Well we are talking about Disney parks here...

Hopefully soon enough the gen pop will recognize 'iPad as your traveling camera' is as douchey as wearing a bluetooth headset everywhere.

I just got the new GF DVC brochure in the mail as my wife was gleefully dangling it in front of me like a child waiting for the green light to open the first Christmas present of the year. I looked through it and said I did not think it was a good idea. I then provided to explain the new MM+ system. My wife's nose crinkled, as if the dog blew wind, and said "I don't think I like the MM+ idea. Why would anyone lay out that amount of cash to be restricted in amount of FP's???"

"Come experience all the joy and magic of Walt Disney World that we allow you to have"

Join me, together we can rule the galaxy.
I have used my iPad in the parks for taking pictures and movies before. My wife and I were on a mini vacation and that is how we kept in contact with our kids back home. We even FaceTimed with the kids and let them watch the MSEP one night. Neither of us have a smart phone (why do I want to pay $40/month for a data plan?) so it worked for what we needed. When we used it we took the cover off and at night we turned down the brightness of the screen so that it would not bother others. I guess I don't judge others for carrying around a heavy camera and equipment all day, why judge me for carrying an iPad?
The point is not about the camera in the iPad, Otis the fact you are holding up a 10" screen in the dark which is very right, distracting to most guests behind you and frankly, rude when used at night or on dark rides.

I wouldn't count a show as an attraction either, its a show! When I hear attraction in a theme park, I think of a ride.

There is only

Great movie ride
Star tours
Backlot tour
TSM
TOT
RNRC

That leaves the little ones with only 2 rides they can actually ride! I don't see how u get 8? R u including shows? And the only one the kids are ever interested in is Disney jr!

I really hope the new expansions of Pixar place and Star Wars brings forward a few more rides that m kids can actually go on!

Well this is how Disney defines attractions and Disney's list. Take if for what its worth.

What kids are interested in is subjective. I bet a 5 year old boy would get a kick out of Indy and LMA. I bet a 5 year old girl would like Little Mermaid.

Disney used to love its AP holders. When I was an AP holder, prices were held in check and discounts were pretty good. Lately, it's the exact opposite:
  • Annual Passes up 17.3% in 2 years.
  • Premium Annual Passes up 12.3% in 2 years.
  • Children under the age of 10 now are charged the full adult AP price.
  • AP merchandise discount was cut in half.
  • TIW price went up 33%.
It looks like Disney decided its AP holders were not spending enough per visit or, alternatively, assumed anyone who signed up for an AP would go no matter what the price.

Yeah.

I was a passholder for quite a while. I haven't been in a couple of years. I live an hour and a half away. I'm not an "Orlando local" but really, it's not a hard drive. I was going quite often. At MINIMUM I was going once a month for the day, on top of also going for a decent trip a year, or twice. Now? I'm really not the type to "Universal this vs. Disney that" but frankly, Universal is just becoming more appealing again. For many of the reasons you stated above. Great post. Sums it up well.

My daughter will sit (and stand and dance) through Disney Jr. once but would sit through a half day of Indy if I let her, which I don't. It just depends on the kids I guess.

Question: What would your response be if Disney got rid of Fastpass altogether and went back to how they operated for WDW's first ~27 years?

My opinion (based on currently-known info and is subject to change upon full roll-out of FP+) is that FP+ is somewhere between the current FP system and the way things were pre-FP. By limiting every person in the park to a total of 3 FP+ per day, you're minimizing the impact on the overall attractions and their Standby lines. Yes, a few of the attractions that are getting FP+ now might see a slight increase in wait times, but I don't see it as being as huge of a problem as some people say it's going to be.

No.. we're talking about why using an iPad as a camera is obnoxious to those around you. The #1 reason is the big stupid LCD that is too bright for the application and those around you. The other reasons on why it's a horrible camera justify why the LCD is not worth the trade-off. If someone wants to use a miserable camera.. that's their own choice. But if they want to use a miserable camera that has a negative impact on everyone around them.. then that's why they cross from 'personal choice' into public nuisance.

Because you look stupid, it's a crappy camera & you hold it above your head, blocking my view with your cookie sheet.

That's why.

I'd fall into the category of just using it to take some quick pictures to share easily. 98% of my photos from that trip were with my point and shoot. When I used the iPad for FaceTiming the MSEP we were standing in the back of everyone and honestly there wasn't much of a crowd.
