My Magic + details ...

I have used my iPad in the parks for taking pictures and movies before. My wife and I were on a mini vacation and that is how we kept in contact with our kids back home. We even FaceTimed with the kids and let them watch the MSEP one night. Neither of us have a smart phone (why do I want to pay $40/month for a data plan?) so it worked for what we needed. When we used it we took the cover off and at night we turned down the brightness of the screen so that it would not bother others. I guess I don't judge others for carrying around a heavy camera and equipment all day, why judge me for carrying an iPad?

I use my iPhone to take photos. Lots of them come out beautifully and there are apps available to make them look even more great. I've made slide shows with my iPhone pics. If that makes me an idiot, then so be it.

The camera in them is relatively aweful... your pocket Point and Shoot will do better
They can't use any practical zoom or framing of the photo...
Instead of using a pocket sized something.. they use a piece of gear nearly 1ft square..
They use a big honkin LCD that is obnoxious to everyone around them..

Why pay $500+ dollars for an aweful camera when a $100 one will work better, and be less obnoxious? They didn't pay $500 for it to be a camera? Oh that's right.. they didn't buy it to be a camera.. then stop trying to use it as your main camera!

So all of this constitutes one as being an idiot?

I don't have an iPad, but I take pictures with my iPod and iPhone. Guess I'm an idiot because I don't always use a camera. Fine with me.

It's not the iPod and iPhone. The iPhone has a decent enough camera for everyday use - although it's still obnoxious when you hold anything with a glowing screen up during a dark ride.

It's the iPad - and it's not simply because they take bad pictures of things like fireworks, but because most people who use them hold them up high, so anyone behind them trying to watch the ride, fireworks, etc has to stare at a giant glowing LCD screen.

People who do that deserve to drop their iPads and crack the screens.

Okay, fine. If I had an iPad and took pictures with it, would I then be an idiot? Is @meyeet an idiot for using his/her iPad to take pictures to send them to family?

No one seems to be answering my original question.

I didn't use the word "idiotic" so I can't speak to that. But it is rude and obnoxious to hold up any kind of glowing screen on a dark ride or during fireworks. It ruins the show for others, as people next to you and behind you have to deal with the light pollution coming from your device.

Okay. Understandable, but we're referring to two different things.

iPhone != iPad

Do you bring your laptop with you to the parks and take videos with the integrated camera? That's more akin to the scenario here. But this is a tangent we don't have to go down here. It can simply be described as holding up a 10" TV in the middle of the dark ride/fireworks.

Why call them idiots, though? How do they look dumb? There's a camera in the iPad... Should they not use it? How is using the CAMERA in the iPad to TAKE PICTURES idiotic? Just curious.

This sums it up pretty nicely. The last sentence is beyond the truth. Some people think that that is a MAIN camera and has a chance of taking 25% decent photographs. I guess we can tell which users here do that!

I used the term idiotic! I will stand up for that one proud. The bulk iPad of users in a survey done by The Verge IIRC stated they thought that an iPad takes better photos because you can see it on a larger screen at the time of taking it. Reddit guys had a field day with that one!

Okay, fine. If I had an iPad and took pictures with it, would I then be an idiot? Is @meyeet an idiot for using his/her iPad to take pictures to send them to family?

No one seems to be answering my original question.

iPhone 4/4s/5 camera > iPad 2/3/4 camera. Compared respectively.

Idiotic~ of or resembling an idiot; foolish; senseless

The latter two making it suitable for the topic at hand.

One Little Spark...
Something just occured to me...

With Magicbands, if it's your charge card and (I assume) your Dining Plan will be on it...

How will that work at restaurants (specifically, Table Service ones)...will you have to give your waiter the band? Or will they bring an RFID reader to your table so you can "pay"?

Currently I give my waiter my KTTW and can add tip...works just like a Credit Card. But, then again, I don't wear it around my wrist...

Also, since the new tap to pay system will require a pin (a nice security feature, I think)...again, how will that work at TS Restaurants? Will the waiter bring me the pin pad? Will TS restaurants be exempt from this security feature?

No.. we're talking about why using an iPad as a camera is obnoxious to those around you. The #1 reason is the big stupid LCD that is too bright for the application and those around you. The other reasons on why it's a horrible camera justify why the LCD is not worth the trade-off. If someone wants to use a miserable camera.. that's their own choice. But if they want to use a miserable camera that has a negative impact on everyone around them.. then that's why they cross from 'personal choice' into public nuisance.

They might implement handheld CC/RFID readers. They are already used around the world as the way to handle credit cards.. they might just do a RFID enabled version of them. Or... what if you swiped your band when you entered the resturant... and your entitlements are linked to your table order/tab right from the start? That would be the slick way to do it.

Yes, it may be part of the check in process at the restaurant. Also, since your dinning reservation, dinning plan and credit card will already be tied to your MM+ account they may already have all of the information they need without your wristband. All you'll have to do is fill out the receipt with the tip and sign. Dinning credits will come off the dinning plan and credit card will be charged for the extras all from your reservation number.

I get the tiered attractions at MK, but that can't even possibly work at any of the other parks! How is that gonna work at DHS when there are only 5 rides! Will they force you to choose shows? Same with Epcot and AK! It just doesn't make any sense!

So lame!!!!

They should still have some sort of verification process, lest people steal others ADRs (which happened to me last trip) and it gets charged to the wrong account.

No, there will need to be some sort of band identification or pin code, or Disney is in for a world of pain.

The tiered doesn't work for me at MK if it's only going to be three fastpasses eventually. If I'm there solo, I definitely want Space, Splash and Thunder - and that's regardless if the Park is a 1 or 10. Have the other choices available for others if they choose to. If a family wants their three passes on Wishes, princess meet and Small World, so be it. Give the choice.

Say No to Tiers

Nope, we're definitely talking about different things. I was not referring to people using iPads to record on rides, or record fireworks or anything related to the LCD light being used. I was referring to people simply using an iPad to take pictures. Two different things.

Because you look stupid, it's a crappy camera & you hold it above your head, blocking my view with your cookie sheet.

That's why.
