Mustard or Ketchup on a hot dog?

Now that's a new one on me. If ketchup doesn't work on spuds, then what is there left to put it on??

(And what are your fry condiments of choice, in case I want to try them?) :D

The French & French Canadians like mayonaise on Fries. I'm part French Canadian and I can say its not too bad.

Us old time Rhode Islanders (pre McDonalds fries) like vinegar on french fries. And the fries are not those steak fries or mini fries either. They are sized in between. And two other ketchup stories are - when my son was a youngster he used to eat a potato chip and ketchup sandwich. Also usually Saturdays my Grandmother baked kidney beans and we had franks and beans for supper - both of which we put ketchup on.

I like the quote of my favorite Hot Dog vendor at Comerica Park in Detroit says..."Ketchup doesn't go on a Hot Dog, didn't your dad teach you anything"

I like that quote too.

To me, ketchup is the poor white trash cousin of respectable condiments. I don't ever buy or use it.

My friend was stationed in Germany for most of the last decade. He learned to eat mayo on fries there.

...wow...LOL!

When I ate them, I had ketchup, mustard, homemade hot dog chili (canned chili is disgusting), slaw, and sometimes cheese on my hot dogs. I have a taste aversion to them now. When I was younger, I was getting a virus and threw up hot dog. Now, hot dog taste = vomit. I do like my mom's hot dog chili. I eat chili dogs.

Are you from Louisiana? Have you tried Slap ya mama? We don't sit down to the table without one or the other on the table. I will admit I've never put on hot dogs just on or in everything else.

I live in Florida but was introduced to Tony's by a Cajun friend. It's good stuff. I'll have to pick up the "Slap", next time I go food shopping. Thanks for the tip.

Since we are on frys... what kind is your fav: crinkle cut, skin on, waffle , steak, shoestring.... etc.

To be honest.. I have never been a big fry guy. I am more partial to onion rings (dont hate... yes I love onion lol). But If I have to get frys... I prefer crinkle cut (and a bit on the crunchy / well done side). Dont like the steak frys at all (they always seem under done in the middle.. and they are way too starchy and bland). Skin on? eh... I can take em or leave em.

I love onion rings too...but for fries like pretty much any variety. As far as fast food ones go, I like Nathan's best. McDonald's are good too. Burger King's fries are horrible. I get onion rings when I go to BK.

I go for the natural or steak cut with our without skin. 5 Guys makes my favorite fry. They are fresh cut, cooked in peanut oil and they make it to you about 5 minutes after coming out of the oil.

And that is when you order a small fry.

I think everyone that goes to 5 Guys for the first time makes the same mistake. They order a regular bacon cheese burger and a large fry. You end up with half a pound of ground beef, 1/2 a dozen strips of bacon, 2 slices of cheese and a good pound or more of fries. Of course it is all so good so you feel compelled to finish it all and you end up curled up in the fetal position about an hour later mumbling "It was sooooo worth it".

Funny, I just made that mistake last week. First timer ordered the double with a large fries. Came to like $11, which seems kind of expensive, little did I know I just ordered lunch and dinner.....yum

Like I said everyone does it. I can't tell you how many people I have talked to about 5 guys and we all have that same first visit story.

I have never heard of 5 Guys until just now. It turns out I live less than 5 miles away from one of their restaurants. I guess I'll have to try it and report back.

I would highly recommend a "Little" bacon cheeseburger small fry. Like we said early the regular and a large fry is enough to feed a small country. If you like things with a little kick get the Cajun fries and add jalapenos to your burger (they are fresh not canned peppers at 5 guys:slurp:)

Yup. I used to live in Kenilworth NJ and there was a Jimmy Buff's there in the 70s. Great hot dogs with fried potatoes, onions, peppers. That place was so good.
Yes, thank you.

Actually live in Union now and make a trek out to East Hanover or Newark on occassion for this delicasy.
