I can't speak to MV3D's popularity at DCA but I was at DLR May 16-20. I decided to watch Mickey's Philarmagic in DCA just because, although I've seen it multiple times in MK. It was painfully obvious that "Muppet Vision 3D was here" because the unused balconies are still in the theatre. It can obviously be returned there.
Yeah. The balconies are still there. I’m still hoping that it’ll return there due to not only fan demands, but since they’re preserving it {the film, the Muppet animatronics, Sweetums, the 3D effects & the key under the mat gag}. It would also be a good gift to the Muppets for their 70th Anniversary this year. Remember, a few surprises announced when Destination D23 coming this year. We just gonna have to wait and see.

No, none of you understand what has happened.

Waldo isn't gone. Waldo is only about to be UNLEASHED. He is the "Spirit of 3D"! He cannot be killed, only briefly contained!

When you put on the glasses at PhilharMagic? Waldo will be there.

When you go on Star Tours? Waldo will be there.

Random 3D showing at your local movie theater? WALDO. WILL. BE. THERE.

It was only due to the bravery and intelligence of Muppet Labs that we were free of his influence! Once they destroy the Vacuum Muppet, we're all doomed!

No doubt Beaker tried to warn them, but they didn't understand!

Wife and I got our final showing in on June 1st. We spent the morning at Animal Kingdom to say our goodbyes to (-and take lots of photos of) DINOSAUR and Dinoland USA. The evening was dedicated to the same thing over at Rock n' Roller Coaster and Muppet*Vision 3D.

However, because we spent so much time taking photos and because we didn't know Muppet*Vision 3D closed an hour BEFORE the park did, we walked into our final showing blissfully unaware of the fact that it would be our final time experiencing it (the original plan was to spend the last hour and a half of park time to see the show 2-3 times).

While I was initially heartbroken to see the doors closed and the chain up after our single viewing for the day, the longer I sat by the fountain soaking in the ambiance and watching droves of disappointed Guests discover what I just had for the entirety of that final hour, what ultimately ended up washing over me was a sense of appreciation.

Because we didn't know our only showing would be our last, everything felt natural. In addition to the theatre being completely filled with Guests who knew the lines, when to participate, etc., the show was never overshadowed by that somber feeling of "I can't believe this is it". In a sad, but also happy sort of way, that unplanned final show was probably the best thing for us because it was perfect in just about every way it could have possibly been and that memory will forever be my final one for the greatest 3D show that will ever grace a theme park. I'm thankful that given the circumstances of the day leading up to it, that we got to see it at all and didn't accidentally miss it, too.

So, thanks for the memories, Jim. Thanks for creating one of the greatest theme park experiences ever. -and while I'm heartbroken that Disney would make this incredibly short-sighted and stupid decision, Muppet*Vision 3D will always live on in my heart and mind.

Oh, and Bean Bunny will always be my favorite Muppet of all.

It's nice they were allowed to yell along with it. I figured this was the same as the recording show and they would tell them to be quiet.
I imagine they would have done a recording show with no one in the audience, an empty theater so everything was captured without interruption and be able to run the show multiple times or even stop it if there were any issues.

Then I would hope they did a recording with a full audience but one where people weren't speaking the lines along with the characters. Who knows? Maybe the audience would be all WDI CMs or their family members. I'm kind of thinking how the original Star Tours safety video was done with families.

I just can't see Disney just moving this show and tech to another theater without updates and changes.
Changes would need to be made of course. I just don't see the script as one of those changes.
Something that would fill the seats again as capacity see to be very low on most shows.
Now because of life, our vacation time has always been summer. So mainly june through August. Muppet vision for sure isn't filling that big theater all the time. But when we tend to go, it's usually 60% or so filled at least. Now I'm an admitted muppet Homer, so we usually go see it 2 or 3 times each time we're in the studios. So there's admittedly many shows I'm not seeing. But even at 50% filled that's going to be over 1000 guests per hour. So having a smaller theater with all new effects and animatronics would be great. That's why I think just moving it to a smaller footprint would keep the fans happy and give them the s ability to create another Muppet offering to create a solid mini land that makes everyone happy.
If the fans just want the same show, I'm afraid that may only be found virtually in the future.
Of course that's what the fans want. It's Jims final Muppet project, and it's fantastic. And everything I've said will never happen of course. Personally I believe the rockin retheme is just a stop gap until they find something different and to try and soften the blow of MV3d to muppet fans.
Even though this would not be the OG Muppet Vision, having this investment and new offerings would have to go a long way in satisfying the average fan but maybe not the die hard.
No matter what anyone thinks, the odds that Disney puts any "investment" in the Muppets is extremely slim. And if I thought Disney could pull off what you say, I'd be good with it. Obviously I'd be ok with something rather than nothing muppets. I just think they could very easily make all fans happy. From those who want the original Muppet vision to the casual fan to people who are indifferent. And in the grand scheme, it would cost very little to do.

This is an old article I found on Archive.org but in 2003 someone got to go backstage at MuppetVision and there's lots of interesting info about a lot of the effects including Statler and Waldorf's flags and how the Sweidsh Chef works in the projector room, etc. https://web.archive.org/web/20121018110644/http://www.toughpigs.com/secrets-of-the-third-dimension/

That was great! I wish we'd finally get to some pics of some of the behind-scenes-stuff now that the ride is closed

In a perfect world, this show finds a new home in a new “Muppets Studios” land right next to Rock n’ Roller Coaster, replacing the villains show. But-! I would settle for this coming back to DCA. 🙃 I would finally visit the park again!

C’mon Disney, the theatre and everything is still there. It’s also (apparently) not being demo’d for the new Avatar experience and the showings couldn’t be any emptier than the PhilharMagic ones are now.

Side note, I watched a queue tour of the DCA PhilharMagic space and jeez.. talk about empty and lifeless.

Since Avatar is taking over Monsters Inc in DCA I would assume PhilharMagic would be on the chopping block too? In a perfect world Muppet Vision would return to that loctation. PhilharMagic in DCA is the worst version of it because the cut backs to make it fit into the corpse of Muppet Vision 3D takes away everything good about it.

It may very well be? The thing is, they only announced the closure of Monsters in that area to make way for the Avatar attraction. The fact that PhilharMagic was omitted from the announcement combined with the fact that there’s an entrance to it on the Hollywood Blvd portion of the land leads myself and others to believe it’s staying (unless more new information comes out).

I know Hollywoodland seemingly gets smaller and smaller every time they build anything new but if they were to re-instate Muppet*Vision 3D and create a new show for the Hyperion theatre, then that entire blvd (combined with the Disney Jr. and Animation Building options) would become a solid “entertainment corridor” for the park.

Wouldn't be too hard to put MV3D back into DCA given the theater is pretty much untouched. It's even rumored the animatronics are still back there.
