That has to be a wild job, as Sweetums has like, what, 4 minutes worth of performance every hour? What do they do between appearances?

Friends of Sweetums do more then just hang out with him all day.
They also are involved in other roles, in other locations, hanging out with other ‘friends’.
And Sweetums has several friends, like all friendly characters do.

Just move the Muppets Show to the Villains show theater in 3/4 years. The tone of the show will be, the Muppets have perfected their 3D technology in the lab and want a new theater to showcase what they have learned. This new Muppets Mayhem: 4D will show a new audience what they gave learned but of course, their may still be some 'minor flaws'. New effects will include rumble seats, smells, ice/heat effects and large rotating sets and screen. Projection mapping will be used to extend the effects along with some live actors. The new show will feature new and returning characters and an segment that pays tribute the Great Movie Ride. A marketing campaign will announce that the Muppets are taking their new technology on the road and will be hosting shows at DHS in the Summer of 2027.

If that sad day ever does come and Disney decides to remove the COP I would love to see it donated to the Queens museum. It’s located at the site of the NYC Worlds Fair where it debuted in 1964. However, I’m afraid the upkeep cost would be very expensive for any museum to maintain properly.

That's because the confidence in Disney updating the attraction to come anywhere close to what Jim did is slim to zero. The show is almost perfect. Outside of updating a few things like Waldo or improving the animatronics, there's not much to improve. Just put it in a smaller theater and restore the fountain to its original form. Now you have a nice Muppets mini-land. And you spent very little in the grand scheme of things.

That would be a good idea - I was just at the Queens Museum for the D23 event and it is a nice space. Adding this would be great but agree about the upkeep and not like they would have the appropriate/ knowledgeable maintain e staff already

I think it would need to basically be the exact same film, the one with Jim Henson doing Kermit's voice, etc, but just some upgrades to the theater ... Maybe have Sam the Eagle do a new intro to announce this upgrade or something

Watching this makes me appreciate it even more. Not just the 3D movie but the AAs, effects, and an actor portraying Sweetums. No show has been as immersive. Watching Statler and Waldorf reacting to everything shows how much better these AAs are than anything that went into Tiana. We had hoped that the Splash replacement would live up to its reputation. It didn't. I'm not hopeful about a Monsters, Inc. replacement show.

One of my favorite details is that Statler and Waldorf actually lower their glasses to start the show and "adjust" them when getting back up after the "WE SURRENDER!!" gag

Here's a video of Statler and Waldorf only (with main show in lower right) that was shared already. Makes you appreciate that they programmed them to react to everything in the entire show. Also, a detail that most probably don't notice: arrows appear out of the wall and their balcony to imitate arrows shot out from the glorious minute and half finale.

How do they pull off them having flags for the "we surrender!" joke, then losing them for the last few moments of the show?
I'm guessing they each have a separate arm with the flag the whole time that only moves into view for the gag (while the animatronics' "real" arms are out of view)?

Yeah, it's a third arm that pops up when the figures duck down. There's a video of Statler's flag arm being stuck up after he's popped back up. I'll have to track it down.
