Wife and I got our final showing in on June 1st. We spent the morning at Animal Kingdom to say our goodbyes to (-and take lots of photos of) DINOSAUR and Dinoland USA. The evening was dedicated to the same thing over at Rock n' Roller Coaster and Muppet*Vision 3D.
However, because we spent so much time taking photos and because we didn't know Muppet*Vision 3D closed an hour BEFORE the park did, we walked into our final showing blissfully unaware of the fact that it would be our final time experiencing it (the original plan was to spend the last hour and a half of park time to see the show 2-3 times).
While I was initially heartbroken to see the doors closed and the chain up after our single viewing for the day, the longer I sat by the fountain soaking in the ambiance and watching droves of disappointed Guests discover what I just had for the entirety of that final hour, what ultimately ended up washing over me was a sense of appreciation.
Because we didn't know our only showing would be our last, everything felt natural. In addition to the theatre being
completely filled with Guests who knew the lines, when to participate, etc., the show was never overshadowed by that somber feeling of "I can't believe this is it". In a sad, but also happy sort of way, that unplanned final show was probably the best thing for us because it was perfect in just about every way it could have possibly been and that memory will forever be my final one for the greatest 3D show that will ever grace a theme park. I'm thankful that given the circumstances of the day leading up to it, that we got to see it at all and didn't accidentally miss it, too.
So, thanks for the memories, Jim. Thanks for creating one of the greatest theme park experiences ever. -and while I'm heartbroken that Disney would make this incredibly short-sighted and stupid decision, Muppet*Vision 3D will always live on in my heart and mind.
Oh, and Bean Bunny will always be my favorite Muppet of all.
